Duke burned out in the 70"s and was a shadow of himself until he did himself. Guys like him and Jerry and the rest of the overagrandized elties are pathetic: brilliance, privilege, money, access and time to really live, and they piss it away in their self-absorbed adolescence and then get revered for their "torment and bearing the burdens of greatness."
It's just immature, self-absorbed disrespect for their God-given gifts and their fans.
LOL! ``Doctor`` Thompson. I`m reminded of the passage at the end of fear and loathing where duke goes into the prescription drug store to get a box of amyl nitrites with his certifined minister ``Doctor of Divininity`` identification
@NapalmTheElf Haha. I don't understand why this isn't the top rated comment on this video. The people in this video probably knew him well enough to see shit like that coming right before it happened I guess.
@NapalmTheElf The latest of his work has yet to be released. I've heard he wrote more in the last 5 years of his life than any point in his career, I know, that may not mean anything. Some day we'll see more from his last years other than the ESPN stuff, but that stuff was pretty good in my opinion so I'd be happy to read any original stuff from his archives that may be published in the future.

@ScarletKnights But, Jesus Christ, can you imagine the cost in property damage that would eventually be accumulated by buildings exploding under the pressure of attempting to contain all that awesomeness and raw talent under one roof?
Hunter and Warren...two great legends who are sadly no longer with us. May both of them Rest In Peace, and we should all be thankful to them for leaving us such great work.
That was cool. I never got to see them around a house. I'll have to pick that DVD up. I celebrated their senses of humor and especially Warren's all around musicianship.

ilikedrawing; both johnny depp and benicio del toro met and becam very acquainted with thompson before and after the filming and production of 'fear and loathing'; depp even more so.. he launched thompson's ashes out of the peyote cannon during the funeral.
What this cancer does and what makes it one of the most horrendous ways to die is it destroys this lining and gradually suffocates the individual. It's incredibly aggressive and fatal 99.9% of the time. Warren lived his life on his terms and died that way as well knowing that he had a death sentence and deciding to smoke again. I know because I was privileged enough to be one of the nurses who helped him during the end stages of the disease.
It is caused by asbestos exposure NOT by smoking and can take up to 40+ years to become evident. The mesothellium is made up of cells which enable the internal moving parts or our bodies (heart, lungs etc.) to slide across adjacent organs/muscle smoothly.
Warning technical medical jargon to follow! Contrary to what you may believe (and even what Warren himself said!) he did not have 'lung cancer' in the traditional sense. Mesothelioma when it presents in the pleural cavity is a cancer of the LINING of the lungs, not inside of the lungs
Oh and here is something to consider: the world trade center had asbestos in some of their insulation. The number of people who inhaled the dust cloud afterwards is staggering. 30 - 40 years down the road they may start paying for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. AND if they went home and had asbestos fibers on their clothes and their loved ones touched it they are just as vulnerable. It only takes one tiny asbestos fiber to kill.
Yes, he did. They think he probably picked up the asbestos either in his grandfathers carpet store where he played often as a child or in the home built studio he had near the beginning of his career. Asbestos might have been in the acoustical tile used as soundproofing.
No you're right it didn't help but it didn't cause it. I guess that is the distinction that needs to be made. Many people view smokers (and rightfully so) who come down with cancer surrounding the lungs as the creators of their own demise but Warren's case was different. He had quit smoking many, many years before his diagnosis and only took it back up when he was handed a cut and dried death sentence.
People say smokers create their own demise And RIGHTFULLY so. Who the fuck are you? Rightfully is a malapropism. The word YOU want is RIGHTEOUSLY. Where the fuck do you get off knowing who dies from what carcinogen? But the real fuckhead concept of a judgement on blaming the victim as the cause of their own death? And you self rts. grr place a particlar distain for cigaretes, choose this pile-on for your noblesse oblige? What about the 90yo smoker who dies of a fx hip?
Did he create his own demise to be pardoned in the last 3 seconds of life by a blame-free banana peel? And some that give up smoking earlier then die of cancer? You have all the fucking answers and implied moral culpability, enlighten us with that beam of shit? My father died of pancreatic cancer at 52. Alcohol is to pancreatic cancer what smoking is to lung cancer. My father had two glasses of wine his entire life!So he's free from blame in his cancer.
I know stastistics and causality. I don't deny them, because they are numbers from studies. They themselves don't imply 'they deserved it' That 13yo girl brought it on herself with that skirt. Of course sodomy yer neck slit is the punishment fer that. That's the same mentality of simplistic moral superiority by those who can'tfucking handle things not neatly tucked in a box filed away. One agent causes cancet. Filed. Skirts and girls. Filed. Cut and dried sentence. There's a flexible mind
Two of the greatest creators of the 20th century. Tis a great shame that two high powered mutants such as these were taken from us. truly they were men not meant to be emulated.
Jesus, that was a film. This is about a man thats dieing going to visit the most influential free journalist of our or any time. Fear and loathing was one book. such a great talent... we need him around today! How in the world did he get mesothelioma? That's like a lifetime of breathing asbestos kind of disease! I bet he kinda liked haveing a weird disease - matched his weird life!
He was exposed as a child in the attic of one of the many houses his parent's lived in. Goes to show what a little exposure to asbestos can do. Anti-smoking lobby would like everyone to believe that cigarettes are the sole boogeyman in our culture (far from it). We're being exposed to dangerous shit every day (take Fabreze, for instance). It's all a big smoke screen. Like WZ said, Enjoy every sandwich!
Theres no way anyone can imagine what he was going through doing that while knowing he was going to die and having alittle get together with his friends and knowing it would probably be his last. Too bad he couldnt have written a song about that because he would have been the perfect songwriter for it.
Smack dab in the middle of bat country too.

Theres no way anyone can imagine what he was going through doing that while knowing he was going to die and having alittle get together with his friends and knowing it would probably be his last. Too bad he couldnt have written a song about that because he would have been the perfect songwriter for it.
