clogging used to be done without taps as well. when clogging went from live music to recorded music, taps were added so the sounds of the feet could be heard over amplified music

Clogging and flat footing are not one in the same :) Clogging is with clogging taps on your shoes.. lifting your feet up off the ground. Flatfooting requires no type of shoe and you keep your feet nearly on the ground.
