The reserve carrier will be useless it will not be fitted out with any equpment ie no cat or traps to launch aircraft it will take months to bring it up to spect maybe even more than a year and even then we wont have enough planes to put on it we are only going to will buy 12 planes initaily as said on bbc parliment by the rear admiral husean i dont know how much all together we will have but we need both carriers fully functional with a total of at least 80 F35C

Everything else is a cruiser by some strange naming scheme only, and a Destroyer at heart.

It´s weird to call a ship of that size a destroyer. It must lack the agility that a vessel of 2000 or 3000 ts has - what means somewhat like a classic destroyer. And today´s frigates reach a dimension of 5000 ts - against 1500 ts of a classic frigate. As a matter of fact the Daring should be called a cruiser.

@Willifrex Yeah they'll use the other Carrier as a Reserve Carrier. It doesn't take much to put it into service in case of an immugency tho. In 1982 we had a similar situation where one of our carriers was in docks. They took it out and repaired it's gearbox on route to the Falklands (never been done before or since). The government seem to have a date of 2020 for where they want to be. The F-35 won't be ready until then anywayz.

Nice ship, way capable than the 42s. I'm guessing with 6 ships being planned (2 are already active), it's going to be divided into 2 groups of 3 ships for each of the new Queen Elizabeth Carriers as Air Defence Escorts.
Every weekday for the past 2 years ive seen some of these ships grow day after day in the drydock, i missed the first launch but i wont miss the second :)
The other great thing about these capable ships is that they will be crewed by the finest sailors in the world. I watched the US Navy run away from RN training at Portland saying we played too hard!!!

@zeekwolfe Considerably better. It puts an "umberella" over the fleet, (imagine half of a giant football) can track any number of targets and can engage up to 32 individual targets simultaneously, at considerable ranges.
How true No land attack capability so far , no proven anti submarine capability and also no anti-ship capability compared to BURKE severly underarmed with 48 missile tubes only .Numerous other allied countries have evaluated and chose to use the AGEIS system including Australia. Of course the BAE System will exaggerate its abilities and say its the most advance in the world.
SAMPSON is highly advanced but its still a rotating radar and doesn't provide 360 degree situational awareness.
@sidewinder188 Sampson gives 360 degree awarenes in bearing and zero to 90 degree in azimuth which puts an AA cover over the fleet in the shape of a Half a football (round not American lol) at much further than BVR.

Yes actualy the UK, France and Italy were all in a joint project building a new class of war ships! It was called the Horizon class (same as Alvaro de Bazan).
However the UK pulled out and built its own bigger and more powerful version.

This is a good ship but not even the best in Europe. Why? Does not carry a large number of missiles and has an inferior radar system compared to other ships in the world. Aegis system is the most advanced and should have been used in this ship. Right now the most powerful destroyers/frigate in Europe is probably the Spanish Alvaro de Bazan class. Has Aegis and carries more missiles.
And, if faced with an equal foe, who has jamming capabilities, the weak link of the Aegis sytem, the SPG-62 terminal guidance radar, could be jammed at long ranges rendering all standard missiles useless, because they rely on terminal guidance from the ship, and for mid course corrections.
Any radar can be jammed, or overwhelmed with false signals.

The important point about the the Type 45 is not whether it is superior to the AEGIS system the USN has had at sea for some years, it is that the UK Treasury is only funding six ships. Which raises the question how many will be available for deployment at any given time? And, given that the carrier programme drags on, what will they be defending? The Brown Government is doing to the RN what the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe could not. Meanwhile our defence budget is squandered in Afghanistan.

Why do you need guns on ships these days anyway? Big ships like these fight at ranges of hundreds of miles, the only guns they need are the gattling guns used for anti-missile defence - of which it has plenty. Over the horizon weaponry? How true No land attack capability so far , no proven anti submarine capability and also no anti-ship capability compared to BURKE severly underarmed with 48 missile tubes only .Numerous other allied countries have evaluated and chose to use the AGEIS system including Australia. Of course the BAE System will exaggerate its abilities and say its the most advance in the world.
SAMPSON is highly advanced but its still a rotating radar and doesn't provide 360 degree situational awareness.

Yes actualy the UK, France and Italy were all in a joint project building a new class of war ships! It was called the Horizon class (same as Alvaro de Bazan).
However the UK pulled out and built its own bigger and more powerful version.

The only bit of French technology is the bit that is late, over budget and hasn't been proved to work yet. If it wasn't for the British navy not only wouldn't the French navy exist but the whole of France wouldn't exist. If it wasn't for British naval innovation you wouldn't have an aircraft carrier with jet aircraft given we invented both the aircraft carrier and the jet engine.

This is a good ship but not even the best in Europe. Why? Does not carry a large number of missiles and has an inferior radar system compared to other ships in the world. Aegis system is the most advanced and should have been used in this ship. Right now the most powerful destroyers/frigate in Europe is probably the Spanish Alvaro de Bazan class. Has Aegis and carries more missiles.

And, if faced with an equal foe, who has jamming capabilities, the weak link of the Aegis sytem, the SPG-62 terminal guidance radar, could be jammed at long ranges rendering all standard missiles useless, because they rely on terminal guidance from the ship, and for mid course corrections.
Any radar can be jammed, or overwhelmed with false signals.

The important point about the the Type 45 is not whether it is superior to the AEGIS system the USN has had at sea for some years, it is that the UK Treasury is only funding six ships. Which raises the question how many will be available for deployment at any given time? And, given that the carrier programme drags on, what will they be defending? The Brown Government is doing to the RN what the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe could not. Meanwhile our defence budget is squandered in Afghanistan.

hmmm what were the brits doing from 1809 - 1815....oh yes! Fighting for survival, against the French, then beating them. WW2, couldnt have done it without the raw materials from the US and Canada - the Germans lost it in 1940, they couldnt beat the RAF (You had to use British engines for your P-51's to make them fly..) We were the first country in the world to use radar (look up 'Chain Home') and SMASHED the most advanced code ever used (look up 'Enigma') Vietnam and Somalia ring any bells?

These ships are just toys for the royal family. They have no real purpose. Full of US electronics. They can switch off any second by satelite.

Whatever carbon footprint this ship has, it'll probably make up for in eliminating enemy carbon emitting vessels, aircraft, and missiles. That's my 'green arguement' for justifying this ship! :D

Why do you need guns on ships these days anyway? Big ships like these fight at ranges of hundreds of miles, the only guns they need are the gattling guns used for anti-missile defence - of which it has plenty. Over the horizon weaponry? This beast packs a big arsenal of long range cruise and AA missiles.
