there was a guy who said on bullfrog blues that he was a over rated pub guitarist with no talant, i told him to shut the fuck up and watch this, he did, and then saw he was wrong!
Rory , you were an influence on my guitar when I was young, and now I see what I missed politically what you were trying to tell us now- I love you Brother, and hope to see you soon.
His talent was extraordinary, some guitar players make you feel you want to pick the guitar up and others make you want to put it down and not touch it again!! Rory fits into the latter. Saw him many times in the 1970's just very sad he is no longer with us..............but what a legacy
@ste123456754 he wouldn't make shit cause people want pointless music about teenagers now, music like this isn't for the masses and therefore not for making money
Great blues picker! But seriously, why is Rory being forced to sing through a condenser mic? Sounds like the treble is turned all the way down on the vocals!
He was one of the greatest players I've ever heard. He was so creative with the blues and rock; he always seemed to be able to keep them fresh and his musical ideas, both written and improvised, were so original and had such an amazing sound to me.
Like the weirdo who put two messages on below, I also saw Rory at Leicester Uni in the late 1960s when I was a kid - Rory was not much old himself. He was truly amazing and I went on to see him dozens of times after that. I grew up with his music and I still get as much enjoyment from listening to him now as then - and now my own boy is studying Rory's music. Rory's music spans the generations.
2 0f 2 : I was blown away and went on to see Rory perform dozens of times over the years - always played Out on the Western Plain so I guess he was particularly proud of that one. I grew up with his music. Don't think the Hall of Fame thing would bother him. He was a fusion of blues and Irish folk music - not really a rocker. He was a musician's musician, a guitarist's guitarist - more important recognition than the fickle music press.
One of two : First saw Rory in the Students' Union Bar at Leicester Uni. in the late 1960s. He was superb even then - virtuoso guitarist, great stage presence. An intimate setting.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YA! To me, He's the most underrated guitarist EVER! Doesn't get any respect for his guitar playing. lol. Rory Gallagher Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame!
There is a petition to get Rory into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Please, if it comes your way, SIGN THE DAMNED THING. Too long has the USA been the maker or breaker of careers and under-rated the very best. The fact that Rolling Stone magazine completely left him off the "100 Greatest Guitarists" list and kept wankers like Kurt Cobain (strummer that he only was) bears the truth of it, you know!
It's an amazing way to play guitar. Thankfully Steve Howe and Gallagher are two of my guitar idols so I learned the "hybrid picking" style early on. It's great to go from the strumming with a pick to a base/melody picking!
miss him too, he's so special, such a great blueser/bluesrocker and such a nice person. love him and his music for about 25 years know, cried when he left us.
It's a somewhat basic blues chord progression except you gotta fingerpick it as you would if you were playing Ragtime on the guitar. If you do learn how to play some ragtime, it will definatly help you playing this kind of music. Use all your fingers! Thats the best advice I got!
I'm learning some too. If you give me your email, I can send you a cool ragtime song thats pretty fun and not too tough! Send me a message on youtube.
I belive This song is by the late great Big Bill Broonzy. If you wanna get into ragtime/blues stuff, check out Blind Lemon Jefferson. Also Check out Big Bill and pretty much any mississippi delta bluesman.
Yup. But I think it's kind of cool that he isn't being slapped onto every cover of a guitar magazine, you know? I mean, those magazines dont determine how great he is. His fans do. I talked to Eric Sardinas the last time I saw him at concert and Rory is one of his favorite musicians. He also played a wicked version of "As the crow flies". Check out Eric Sardinas. He's pretty good! If you like explosions of slide guitar haha.
Beautiful!

@bankersblues he usually used hybrid picking: flatpick and fingers. Seems like he is here too.

Without doubt the most abundantly complete guitarist of all time.. The man was a genius..
I think all us Rory fans internally enjoy that he hasn't garnered the appreciation he deserves because it makes him OURS!
I'm happy he isn't like some generic guitarist on the cover of guitar magazines every month..
That is, the less he's known by the masses, the more our appreciation contributes to the great mans' legacy..
