  • masking tape works better for the OCD ppl who want perfectly straight edges. It's used for painting walls and stuff, peels off more easily, won't leave tape residue like scotch tape might and is less likely to take chunks with it. :) Thanks for the awesome tutorial! :)

  • If you want to change the color of the paint on the end of your brushes, can you remove the paint? Can you use with nail polish remover, or does it have to be something else? Thanks

  • ok thank u i see blair and she dosnt have them pink and i was wondering why yours were like that they look pretty

  • what i did so it didnt take out a chunk of nail polish, is i let it dry only a tiny bit, maybe like 5 mins and then took off the tape, that way it didnt take off a chunk of nail polish :D

like you know when you paint your nails, and you touch it too early and it leaves a fingerprint but its not like still sticky wet, thats when i take it off :D but then i put it back in the position to dry again :3 thought id tell you that trick. but thanks so much i love my new painted brushes!!!

  • if you dont like the colof, would it be bad to try 2 take it off with nailpolish remover?

  • This is cool, im gonna do this!

  • If you use masking tape it shouldn't take off any of the brush paint! Cute idea :)

  • can i paint my entire brush black so it looks more professional?

  • thanks!! i did this!

  • Lol if it didn't come out straight I'd go nuts, probably because actually have been diagnosed with OCD

  • i love this! i just painted some of mine gold and others pink :)

  • didnt u use the hello kitty makeup in this?

  • Pretty! This is such an awesome idea, I never thought of doing this before! =D

  • Pretty! This is such an awesome idea, I never thought of doing this before! =D

  • omg i NEW NEW NEW THAT U WOULD USE NAIL POLISH AND PAINT

  • omg i NEW NEW NEW THAT U WOULD USE NAIL POLISH AND PAINT

  • can't you use paint, too? i think that'd be better and it wouldn't look so streaky....

  • That's sooooooo cute!!!! Love it~

  • if you peel the tape off before the paint completely dries it wont be uneven.....but its still cool looking eitehr way! just thought i'd say that. :)

  • i used blue painters tape instead and it didnt take any off

  • i like to dip the ends of my brushes in a thing of nail polish. I love your videos Elle! <3

  • can you do this on bamboo handled brushes?

  • if you do this and don't like it, can you use nail polish remover to get it off?

  • Very cool !

  • Wow i tried it and it was amazing!!

  • Wow i tried it and it was amazing!!

  • If you take the tape off when they nail polish isnt fully dry yet that probably wont happen.

  • The same concept when using painter's tape on walls applies to this. You should take the tape off the brush while the nail polish is still wet, right after you paint it. That way it will leave a really clean line. Once the paint dries, no matter how carefully you pull the tape off, whatever polish was painted over the tape itself will pull off the nail polish above the tape with it and creative a jagged or uneven edge.

  • thanks so much! i am going to do that! but one question, if you were to change your mind later and wanted a different color, or wanted to take it off, is there a way to remove the color?

  • I did that and mine are painted white now ! So useful thank you ! Well here no one painted their brushes until I did mine and everyone was ''wow that's so cool'' and now everybody has done the same :)

  • Okay so I did the paint on the end of my brush. I have a little tip. (This worked for me). I was impatient and decided to dry the brush faster and I used a hair dryer to dry it. I put it on high. I put it under it for 2 minutes. I let it sit for a few minutes. It is now completely dry!

  • you could use painters tape

  • sarahbellex93 also has a video showing how to do this. great vid :)

  • do you know how to do the eye make up when you have wide or narrow eyes -i mean if the eyes are to far away or to narrow in your face?

  • omg how did you do your makeup here? is there a video on this look? anyone? link?.... : ( please?

  • omg i could never have them be different colors like you did with this one brush...i would hate that! but having them all the same is cool

  • hehe, i love the color turquoise, it me favorite=]

  • Cool I'll try it! :D

  • maybe painters tape would work better! :)

  • Your family is a M.A.C family

    So weird but so cool

  • Cool your family is a M.A.C family

    So weird but so cool

  • I love this idea. I'm going to do mine in For Audrey China Glaze polish, cause that's my name. :)

  • thanks! just painted the ends of mine with OPI Mad As A Hatter - looks amazing

  • thank you for your sharing, it's good idea

  • does the nail polish chip on the brushes?

  • you could just dip it in the nail polish

  • you could just dip it in the nail polish

  • it wont let me watch the vid :(

  • maybe painter's tape would work to not take off the nail polish?

  • hahah 69,699 views.. but anyways great video!

  • HAHA The girls at the M.A.C at my mall do that to there brushes lol

  • instead of doing this on brushes, could i do it of other stuff?

  • cute =]

  • That's so strangely cool :D

  • it would drive me CRAZY if mine weren't all the same color!! lol ocd?!

  • hwy elle! so i remembered seeing this video and just got in my complete set of sigma brushes so i decided to try it, and i jsut wanted to let you know that i put some drops of the opi drip dry on after i panted them adn it worked great! they dried so quickly jsut like how it works on nails! hope this helps :)

  • Lol I do the same thing cause of my sister! And I put it on my eyeshadows too

  • You look like a Barbie! And I love that idea, I will definitely be doing it when I buy my brushes to spice 'em up. ( :

  • theyy doo itt likee thatt att thee macc counterr ii qoo twoo att nordstromm,, btw yhuu shouldd takee aa silverr designn brushh ndd makee aa littlee designn

  • Gret aidia

  • with one of my black handled brushes, i should paint 2 yellow stripes to resemble a bee :)

  • Great idea. Definitely gonna try tt out! Thanks for the tip! :)

  • good idea im ganna try it tonight!!

  • cute idea!!!!

you could paint all your eye/lips/face/ cheek brushes one colour :)

  • i tried it on my barry m brushes and it looks really cute :)

  • could you paint the top of it white, let it dry than paint over the white with your fave colour to make it brighter?

  • you can use painter's tape that is blue from scocth tape and it won't peel off the tape.

  • That's really cute! I would have never thought to do that! Thanks!

  • Maybe we should treat the brushes like our nails..

put on base coat, then colour, then top coat. :)

  • I am going crazy looking for a brush roll for all of my brushes...I checked with beautycrunch and they said they did'nt carry those...HELP ME !!!!!!....If you know of another website that carrys them please let me know...I appreciate it !!! :)

  • It;s better to take it off when its wet.. at least... i do that... :)

  • hey if you wanted to change it after woule you just use nail polish remover? or would that strip the original colour off the wood of the brush?

  • cuuute! I can't wait to do mine. I'm feeling yellow nail polish this summer, so I will paint my brushes yellow! =)

  • wow that smart

  • omg really cool idea =]

  • lol they went to a mac store asking for those lol .... thats so funny and i actually did think they came like that i never jad a clue you painted them.. :D

  • wouldn't it be easier to just dip the brush end till half the tape, into the nail polish? it would be more even..i think.. just a thought =)

  • wouldn't that be too much polish though?

    and too messy?

  • I don't think a lot of the polish openings would be big enough.. :/

  • that's cute!! I buy cheaper nail polish for that purpose I use like a bright lime green and it looks cute! and I'm very OCD so I use the painters tape ;]

    thanks!

  • You could also just take off the tape, before the nailpolish is completely dry. (:

Then the nailpolish wont chip off (:

  • yeah thats what i did and it came out perfect i used neon green and it was so cute when it dried

  • Love this idea!

I would think using blue painters tape on the ends instead of scotch tape, the paint wont chip when you peel it off. Just in case some of you are 'ocd' about that. =]

  • Oh My Gosh! thats soo cute! thank you!xx

  • OHHH okay :) disregard my other question/comment

  • does it fade or come off with time? since i always put my brushes in a holder and the ends always scrape against the glass and stuff

  • i have the same question. and im thinking that it would start coming off over time. im gonna do it anyway on my cheaper brushes just for fun :)

  • to siyang2:

hmm, maybe if you put a top coat on the part where the nail polish covers the brush, it wont fade or come off?

    just an idea. =)

  • omg i do this too,i got these fake brushes and i they dont have # on them so to tell the difference i paint the bottom lol

  • i did this :)

    its cute and smart :)

  • if you mess up can you take it of with nail polish remover or will it mess up the original paint on the brushes? oh and has anyone tryed dipping it in the bottle? tell me if that works.. thank u!

  • i do that with my brushes too!!!!

  • OMG! thats genius...

  • Comment removed

  • you could also just dip the end of the brush into the nail polish container

  • wow it's really good

    did you think that out?

    that was great!

  • i kind wanna do this now! lol

  • try dipping the brshes into the nail polish pot! it works really well

  • lol i saw this on the show BLUSH

  • i would def take the tape off when its still wet! thats what i do for french tips evrytime! also try dipping ur brush right into the nail polish container.

  • Your video's are great~!

    LOVE IT!

    x.

  • nice

  • best way to prevent the tape from taking off the nail color is to take the tape off before it dries... just if you wanted to know! ^_^ love the pink you used btw!

    xx

  • If you use a Painters Tape, OR Masking Tape, instead of Scotch tape, it will hold a seam better, wont leak through and will pill off the brush a lot better. Just a handy tip.

  • Wow, Sorry for the spelling error's

     Pull (not pill).

  • im soo gonna do that!

  • i love this video! i am doing it for my mac brushes now.

  • They sure are cute. Only I put them into my brush roll the next morning and went out of town. Yep that left the imprint from the roll material on them. Kinda like your nails do when you sleep on them and you wakeup with the sheets imprinted on them. Booo!

  • maybe you can try to remove the colour with nail polish remover and then redo it :) ..but i dunno if it works

  • lol love the look on your face when you were painting it. =]

  • thanks soo much for makin this vid i just painted my brush with the hello kitty something about pink nail polish by mac and it look adorable! thnxs!!!!!

  • That's a great idea,.!

  • that is a really fun idea(:

  • is ur sister in any of ur videos? thx :)

  • it looks purple because the brush is black. if u did that on your nails, it wouldnt be that color

  • I find that the easiest way for me is to put the tape on, paint it, and then immediately take the tape off. When you take the tape off right away, it won't take the paint off with it.

  • Good idea:)

  • how did you do ur watermark in ur video? please reply thanks xx

  • i Love the idea!

  • yeah! at the mac counter my lady has painted brushes!

  • wow thats very cute! and thats such a great idea i would have never thought of an idea to do that! xD i hope it works with my too faced brushes cos i have more of those then mac brushes im thinking to try im i just gotta find a right color for it im thinking to do polka dots!! xD thanx for posting this your a genius!

  • Could you make a vidioe with your sister the one with brown hair and do a vidieo with her introducing her and just doing crazy stuff

  • take the tape off while it's still wet....that's what you're supposed to do when you paint walls too! =)

  • i love your shirt!

  • What is "free lance makeup"?

    ~Alyse

  • freelancing is when people work on their own, as in not for any other company, doing make up in this particular situation.

so it would basically just be a make up artist working for him or herself, maybe going to people's houses or people can hire them for specific events and etc.

i could be wrong... but i think that's pretty much it.

  • i just thought they were PRO brushes. great idea.

  • What is "free lance makeup"?

    ~Bella

  • thought you were in collegee?

  • I am

  • good idea!!

  • You could also just dip the end in craft paint ;) The craft paints won't chip like nail polish will ^_^

  • tht is a georgeous color!!!! omg great idea i wanna do this!!

  • sooo cute, great idea

  • I think I'm gonna try this ! GOOD TIP !

    Ms. Spanish

  • ♥ If You Take The Tape Of The Brush Straight After You Have Painted It, It Wont Chip Off Like It Does When Its Dry!! ♥

    Rachel

    =) xx

  • thats true

    good tip

  • after watching this video i just had to do my brushes

i did them all neon green

    they look really good

    like with the black

    =)

btw, can you recommend some good brush brands that arent mac?

because i love mac but im trying to save up for mothers day

    =)

    xx

  • omg im so gonna do that with neon orange!

  • excellent tip!

  • i have same brush and same nail colour :D

  • yourr soo gorgeous! i love all ur tips and makeup but onfortunatley im 15, i dont live with my mom, and i cant really afford mac makeup): i wish i could tho im obsessed!

  • i did a shimmery lime green on my e.l.f brushes and it is so cute!!

    thanks!

    xoxo

  • thats a really kool idea

  • why not just dip the brushes in the nail polish

  • I had to laugh 'cause you would think a girl your age would have enough common sense to know how to paint the ends of their brushes...LOLOLOL!!! Cool vid though!

  • cute idea! that would look ADORABLE if you diped it in glitterr.

  • if you take the tape off when the paint is tacky, it wont strip paint off.... also, i dip the end in glitter(MAC) while they are wet and they are pretty cool then!

  • I do this to distinguish my ELF brushes from each other because I have like 4 elf shadow brushes that I used and sometimes I don't know which is dirty or which is clean.

  • I painted the ends of mine yesterday and I love it. It looks so cute. Your videos are great.

  • i think it would be best to take the tape off when the polish is still wet then it won't take some polish off with it the next day

i haven't tried it myself but i'm pretty sure it would work

good idea though and nice video apart from that

    xx

  • Omigosh!

I've always wanted to know how tou did that

    thanks a bunch!!!

  • good idea hun but if the opening of the nail vanish bottle is big enough just dip the end of the brush into it lol

im not sure how big the openings are cuz i dont paint my nails :)

  • im going to try that now! i love that idea its cute. and i love that purple color! its adorable

    thanks for the idea elle!!

    xoxo

    brianna

  • That's such a cute idea! I've never thought of doing that. =D

  • You have such beautiful nails also! Have you, or would you ever consider doing videos on nail care, or foot care? I'm pretty sure if you maintain your hands well, your feet have to be equivalent...:-).

  • Thanks for this vid, Elle!! I figured that would use tape but had noooo idea that instead of paint you would use nail polish! Now that's creative!! I'm about to paint the ends of mine in China Glaze's "For Audrey" (Tiffany Blue) I just love that color I hope it shows up ok :)

LOVE your vlogs Elle! Keep up the good work! :)

  • wow !!

but what if my friends have same color :P

  • that's a really cool idea! I would even add a purple ring too

  • Does the color ever chip off?

  • I wonder if the nail polish chips? :P

  • i love this technique! i just did my brushes. i used OPI cancun fiesta (hot hot hot pink lol) and sally hanson diamond strength nail color No 5 (white-ish clear sparkles) over that. it is a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e! luv ur vids girl and keep on makin' em!

  • I tried it and It worked out great!

    Thanks Elle!

  • COOL!

  • really creative!

  • that's so pretty! hmm. It's going to be so hard to choose a color!

  • thanks girl! i love this! =)

  • haha how creative! i wanna do it! lol

  • I tried this, it looked very nice!

  • LOL whats OCD?

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

It means like being super obsessed about something! :) X x X

  • omg, i totally going to try this, my brushes will look adorable!

Thanks for the video Elle :)

    Kisses :**

  • if you take the tape off before it drys it wont chip like that =]

haha i am OCD about that ;]

  • very creative..i might do this on some of my brushes.thanks for sharing ..

    xox

  • i think I'm going to try this but with a clear polish that has lots of glitter!!!

  • This is such a cute idea =) I think somebody else might have already mentioned this, but maybe you could try taking the tape off while the paint is still partly wet so it won't come off when it dries. I know that's what I have to do when I do a French manicure and I use guiding tape...but thanks for the vid!

  • Thanks for the crafty idea. :) I was wondering though if you just used like a craft paint would that be better and more durable for lasting longer? Just curious and thanks for someone giving the tip of putting clear nail polish over the numbers on the brushes that's helpful

  • Wow I will totally do this! Im glad you showed your actual technique of painting them because If I had just decided to do it without really thinking it out I would have ended up with a sloppy mess. lol

  • I actually like the flaw when the paint comes off. It looks like you dipped it in strawberry cream or something.

  • Very creative! Now I wanna try it! Thanks!
