Yes he is influenced by boards of canada but every artist has influences. The only similarities are in the sound of the synthesizers and the laid back vibe. Other than that the spirit of the music is totally different.

@mrsaganscosmos I'm a fan of both Tycho and BoC, but I think in this song the line separating influence and imitation is pretty thin. I mean, when Tycho ventures off into his more uptempo stuff that's where his original voice shines through. Here it just sounds way too much like BoC-from the melody to the use of that tambourine sample, and even to the beat itself. Not that I'm complaining. It sounds fucking great :)

Even though the style definitely has the influence - the textures & synth build ups. Hear sixtyniner by BoC and hear this again to know what i mean. But calling a rip-off is WRONG. That way you can say that all artists in a specific sub genre are rip off of each other.

Hey guys, I'm a guitarist getting into synth, and I was wondering what kind he does to get a sound like this? Sounds like some chorus, a slight amount of delay, and some slow vibrato. @LimboShrimp my guess is that he's layering multiple samples including white noise, adding compression, delay and verb, resampling, adding more compression, delay and verb, etc etc, then throwing in an LFO for the vibrato effect somewhere in there. so think delicate layers of sound. oh and using crazy vintage gear and mixing down in a pro studio with an experienced engineer helps. any one else have any idea? nevertheless, his sound and technique (whatever it is) is very effective.
