  • on roblox

  • @Thefireballboy they used to, then the 90's came.

  • SPOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Man, MULEs are so OP...oh, wait, wrong game.

  • ROBLOX ARE YOU SERIOUS????

  • Got this off or roblox

  • Thumbs up if you hear this in Spore.

  • do they still sell m.u.l.e?

  • @TheFireballboy Not yet! But Mule is coming to IOS! Google "mule ios". Yay

  • we call this guy in the frat mule boy, this is his theme music and hype video. epic

  • @brilliantcbet

Awesome... post his "mule boy dance" as a video response. I can't wait to learn it for myself.

  • Perfect! Brings back many memories of the 80's sitting with my other buddies playing this!

  • C-64 Version was the best :D

  • The strongest point being support for 4 players at the same time.

The Atari accomplished more game play than folks realized at the time.

I'd still play River Raid but the joystick in the emulator just doesn't cut it.

  • wow, no suggjestions------->

  • Why is this so sped up?

  • @JayIsntMyName - It isn't. It's NTSC (north america) perfect, verified. The other youtube vids (well, most of them anyway) on the net are wrong, in that the music is slower. Perhaps they are from PAL (eurorific) TVs?

  • @mraupp Weird, I guess don't remember it as well as I thought, and I I've watched too many other videos that were probably from the PAL format versions, You're absolutely right, of course. I booted up an emulator in NTSC and sure enough, runs just like yours. So, my apologies. Carry on. :)

  • @mraupp yesp. i remember this game. this video is 100% accurate.

  • @mraupp That usually seemed to be the case. I noticed that with many video game consoles of the time that sounded slower in PAL regions.

  • Thumbs up if you heard this at least once when talking to another Empire on Spore.

  • @detatchablewheezer detatchablewheezer is commmenting on a video he does'nt even like. makes no sence dude :/

  • i Heard this on roblox

  • looks like an At At

  • Best game evar!

  • thumbs up if spore brought you here

  • MULE IS KING!!!!

  • ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY MULE

  • MULE KNOWS ALL!!!

  • I remember this song from when you buy stuff in Spore

  • @Iceburner96 i think is an easter egg

  • @Iceburner96 me 2 its in galactic adventures :D

  • finally SOMEONE who knows that this game was NTSC, and plays the music at the correct speed.

  • Thumbs up if ROBLOX brought you here :)

  • Frick! Its in Spore, when trading with other empires :P

  • this song is in spore GA!

  • If you guys want to play this game online, search for "planet M.U.L.E."

  • I never had the 800 XL, but remember playing this on my 130XE. At the time, the music blew me away and friends of mine and I would sometimes just boot the game to hear the music. We knew that this was just the begining of something wonderful! Thanks for posting. I needed to hear that again.

  • @vexamatic Sick! I used to do the same thing! This and the Ultima games...

  • it sounds the same on .roblox no lie its true

  • @TheTheShadowinthemis Im listening to this song because of roblox LOL

  • wow love that...reminds me of my programming days

  • its on spore

  • Too bad there aren't games like this anymore. This was way ahead of its time. I can't wait for it on my IPAD/Iphone. If they change anything, I'll be seriously pissed and disappointed. That includes the best game music ever!!!!!!

  • my idea for a new MULE game

    1. On PS3

    2. in 3D

    3. has the same thing with bids ansd stuff

    this song is awsome

  • @Thegoldandsilverboy7

It would be great if they remade mule for one of the consoles (wii, 360, or ps3)... They don't need to change a thing (if they update the graphics, give us an option to keep the old graphics).

  • @mraupp

I agree100 percent. People don't realize how good a programmer Bunten was. Clones have added fluff and graphics but then managed to mangle the game play.

Keep it the same but port it. It need to have 4 player option anything less is not real MULE..

  • @mraupp I Agree Multiplayer Mule on Live! would be a blast.

  • @FtRapture I actually thought there was a possibility of this happening a few years ago.... Now not so much. They wouldn't want to make it unless it's going to sell a million copies (which it never would)... Oh well, we can dream (and play it on an Atari emulator! I have the one on Wii Homebrew, it works great. One of the few reasons I still use the Wii. )

  • I loved playing Mule, you're right though, I wish they would bring it to the wii(not changing much).

  • I loved playing Mule. I agree with you, the wii should bring it back with the option to keep old graphics.

  • Maybe this was a Easter Egg for Spore?

  • This was one of my favorite Atari 800 games - my dad and I played it together more than any other. Thanks for sharing. I still marvel at the amount of subtle excellence - from the music to the demo animation (love the characters shrinking down to game-board-size) to the gameplay - that the Ozark Software folks squeezed out of my 48K computer!

  • (I should try this game, looks cool ;) )

Although i really like the Commodore 64s sound capability, Atari POKEY gets me every time with this cool sort of bassy squarewave, as used in this tune! AWESOME!

  • @hoques1432

Actually, the big difference between the C-64 and Atari versions were that the Atari used all 4 voices, while they had to drop one of the harmony voices on the 64. Craig Chamberlain, who wrote the original "SIDPlayer" music system for the 64 extracted the music code from the Atari system to do an early demo track for SIDPlayer using this song and has detailed the differences on his SIDPlayer site, explaining how he had to try to merge the voices for the SID's 3 voices.

  • Best. Computer. Game. Ever.

Thanks so much for posting! Brings back so many great memories.

  • Thanks for posting this!!!!

  • holy crap. I played this game on my Atari 800XL. Brings back so many memories.

  • You Don't Need An Emulator! Get the official internet multiplayer remake here:

    planetmule d.o.t c.o.m!

  • Comment removed

  • You have that backwards :) Ozark based the design of the M.U.L.E. on the imperial walkers from Empire, which came out some years before this game was made.

  • That's fantastic, thanks for the upload! I didn't think I'd have a use for this memory every again, and now I want to download an emulator and play it again!

  • You should download it, it has aged like fine wine (except the graphics!).

  • I was always the guy with the long neck that looked like ET. I made him blue. He rocked.

  • Ahh great game..brings back lots of memories

  • XD this song is on spore but different tone and speed

  • Finally... someone uploaded the right sounding version! Love this game... love this song.

  • Best video game music ever!

  • So that's what Spore copied randomly in Space stage.

  • It's funny that they must have gotten permission to use it for what is essentially just an easter egg...

  • actually EA made both spore & M.U.L.E. so they don't need any permission

  • duh, yeah... EA must still own the rights to MULE, otherwise a sequel would have been made by now.

  • Maybe they just let it be, a sequel to this would be unneeded

  • Unneeded maybe, but the right time for one...absolutely. Keep your eyes and ears open.

    Melanie Bunten

  • EA owns the name M.U.L.E. My brothers and I own the rights to MULE and maybe a sequel is in the works...

  • Hi. I am Dan Bunten's daughter and actually my brothers and I own the rights to the M.U.L.E. themesong. And permission is required to use it.

  • Well Maxis made Spore, but they are from Ea, excepttheir founder.

  • Back in High School, the band I was in did a MULE music cover. We recorded it, but lord knows what happened to it. If I can find it, I'll post it.

  • Awesome game. The music from the C64 is what I grew up with. But the the version on you tube is not the right speed. This one is actually the speed I remember.

  • I think, the video this is a response to, is the C64 version, instead of the Atari XL version. This one is spot on.

  • Nope, I was wrong. They are both the Atari version, but this runs on an American NTSC machine, with 60Hz Vblank, while the other one runs on a european PAL machine, 50Hz Vblank, hence the speed difference. This intro is just complete, while the other is sped up by pressing a console key. Hence the lack of specling in the other one.

  • I still can't figure out what's going on in the other Atari mule intro... It seems almost twice as slow to me (the 60/50 NTSC / PAL difference is something I hadn't considered). This was a response to the Atari version, but it's interesting with over 20 years of hindsight how much better the Atari version sounds (although based on views, more people are looking for the C64 version!).

  • Wow. The music kicks ass.

  • @chakatassassin Agreed.

  • I spent many hours playing this. It was one of the best games ever!!

  • What a great game :) Great music too.
