There is a reason why black and latinos as a collective don't have the money that whites do as a collective and this country will never acknowledge it.
They knew this which is why they signed the civil rights acts and intergrated schools but did nothing in the face of urban riots and the Kerner Commission.
They knew they could still maintain segregated communties through property taxes due to years of disenfrancising minority groups.

Unfortunately, too many whites don't view other Americans as Americans. As the United Nations said last year, we are running a two-tier society based on race and class. Due to this country's history and present institutionalized racism, class falls heavily on racial lines. Therefore, quality of life falls on racial lines. No one is interested in changing it. It's easier to make simple-minded assumptions as to why its this way.

The problem with this post is simply the frame of mind in which people you think. I heard them say `why dont they pick themselves up.` How can you pick up your comunity when there are no jobs and no oppritunity in the comunity to do so. Now as far as crime goes, ponder this, imagine if you had 2 make the choice on whether you had 2 sell drugs or starve, which would choose. The problem comes down to supply and demand. Whenever a neighborhood is improved, overall it drives up demand for apartments- which contributes to higher rent (which is pretty much why all rent in Manhattan is ridiculously expensive).

My property taxes are almost $9K and I dont live in a great neighborhood- but someone has to pay for the Abbott school districts in the city next to my town.
Another reason- the school boards make up the curriculum. Look who makes up the school board. Look who ELECTS the school board- you'll see where the problems originate- in the actual neighborhoods.
