the car was good for the age, no doubt, but it looks morbid and associates with funeral cars :)

still, 5th gear people have no sense of humour, they never do it with style like top gear does most of the time

Fantastic car. I have a 1991 300 TD auto estate with 268000 miles on her and apart from the dam self leveling suspension which i want to remove so if anyone knows which shocks i can use to replace the self leveling units please let me know. She has been and still is a great car. even left for 4 months over winter started first time on the key when still covered in snow. Returns 38 to the gallon and aint got rusty front wings like the newer mercs suffer from.

@MikeE381 My Merc sits up ok hight wise but bounces like hell when you go over a bump. It must be stuck on its hard setting i reckon. I've tried adjusting the link arm on the rear axle that goes to the anti roll bar but nothing. The pump is working off the camshaft so i reckon its the spheres that have gone hard on her. But changing them will mean pipes and unions braking and a load of money. So i would rather remove the system as i dont put weight in the back of her anyway.

@AUTORECOVERYUK In my case the self leveling hydraulic oil leaked from the pump. and have been empty several years. Try to drain the hydraulic oil..

They hare beatifuly build and the reliability is second to none. My father and I drove a mercedes W124 200D

as a taxi until 880.000 km then it was sold to another cab driver, and there were some 1.000.000 km mercedes in my town.

So if you take good care of them they will give you decades of work grunting way happly.

Now i just have to find a moster truck and drive over the personal cars of the 5th gear staff

im speach less about 5th gear! they bought a 300te (?) with electric windows both front and back! and the 7 seated model for £695!! in Sweden it would cost like £3000!! and they just waisted it for nuthin.. anyway love your benz! i might get a 230 E -88 beige sedan 4-speed automatic! :) my grandpa´s ex car which have been standing outsidefor 3 years..

Alfas don't enjoy quite the same reputation as Mercs do for reliability or build quality. ;)

The W124 is like a Mondeo with class and far superior build quality, made for the family man rather than the company executive or rep.

ive had a 1987 350SL, 1987 190E, 1993 300E, and I currently have a 2001 S320..

to be honest they don't really make them like they used to but it will change soon.
