She sings the role with restraint, considering the tradition at the time was to really use a lot of embellishments - and the ones she chooses are right out of the book. She only distorts the tempo noticeably once. What a wonderful voice and what womanly feeling she puts into her interpretation. That said, I'd like a bit more steel and some darker tones in the low notes - just my preference.
@rodrigououo Not really. Her voice was too bright for this role and she didn't have the low notes for it. This role belongs to Callas and to Callas alone.
the negatives here are so rediculous that they are not even worth paying attention to.
and to think the likes of tulio serafin actually was misguided enough to be fascinated by sutherlands voice--i guess he never went to the bel canto school of nonsense you all seem to have attended.
idiots, have you any idea how incredible it is for any singer to sing this repetoire as effortlessly as sutherland did. all singers have unique voices and great singers, more unique still, no point comparing!
Cretino, dove sono questi " tanti errori"? Puoi leggere la musica? "Troppo corta di fiato"? Sogni!
I guess Mr DiegoMartinazzoli knows very well to Mrs Sutherland to speak bad about her and to request respect from others who talk not well about him and not know him.
I only know that I don't get bored listening Sutherland's Norma like happens with many other singers. Brava!!!
The worst opera singer you have ever heard, Diego? Can't have heard that many singers then. Ever heard Scotto, Gruberova, Cigna, Fleming, Netrebko in this? They are absolute rookies compared to La Stupenda.
@DiegoMartinazzoli You said it all.. Good for you ... on taking on a sacred coiw o you tube.. she is not all that if all she does is do whatever she thinks is Bellini.. rather than what he thought norma was.
Carissimo, hai perfettamente ragione! Joan Sutherland è grandiosa come Norma.
@Richiesutherland Hai perfettamente ragione!

(First of all, Cretino is not the right word when you talk to one person you don't know. Respecting other people is the most important thing)
She doesn't have any respect for tempo and duration of each note!
Let's not talk about the legato and the Italian...
Bel canto requires a perfect LEGATO!! Otherwise it is screaming!! not good singing of course!
There is only one word to describe Sutherland's singing: NEGLECTION. She is the worst opera singer I've ever heard!

@DiegoMartinazzoli Don't mean to be disrespectful, but I wonder if you understand anything of opera
