I'm so happy for Don. Thank you Don for everything you've given us as both children and adults. Your memories will last forever. Through thick and thin :) My animation style is very simmilar to your own, then again, I've always loved your hard work.
Mr.Bluth[ of that's you running the youtube channel]
Id like to ask, to many of these same rules for focal point, etc, apply to anime as well? Because I'm really into that and I hope someday to be like Hayao Miyazaki.
Thats a dark pencil hes using dark soft lead looks like a tombo im not sure, Ive found those pencils break a lot. I like using the stadelter 2b, i remember going to a toonup seminar years ago and Don had all these story boards out for dragons lair the movie, they like covered the whole wall, it would be great to see them again, or maybe they could be published or shown on his website, the drawings were really cool.
I don't longer use traditional pencils, I use mechanical pencils instead, I use two separate mech pencils, one with 2H thickness and the other with 3B thickness.
With 2H I sketch and with 3B I detail, much like Mr. Bluth does in his videos ^_^
I recommend you to use mech pencils if you don't wanna break them all the time, :3
@ImpmonX Yeah I just watched your Akira America that was pretty funny, that's defiantly an original comedy I like how instead of the mysterious Neo Tokyo there's Wallmart beside them.
Don, I love watching your videos because it helps me become a better artist. I, myself, convey the 'monkey see, monkey do' technique because I learn to draw certain positions by looking at pictures. Great technique to use. Your videos are so helpful. Thank you!
I still love Secret of Nimh as much as I did back then in elementary school when my teacher stopped the movie at the show down because it was too brutal in her opinion. xD
Yo Don, although I'm an aspiring graphic novelist, seeing this gives me a confidence that I can gain great abilities through the hard work I'm putting myself into.
This is upresidented. No other master of Don's level has been so gracious with his experience, approach and technique. This should be the starting point for any young artist or hopefull animator. I hope Don is ok with this stuff being on Youtube; It's a genuine gift to the public. If Don himself is activly working with this channel then I can only say, it's like talking to one of my all-time biggest heros! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing these videos with the world. You have amazing art and animation, and it's a privelage to be able to see how you did them. :) I'm really glad I found your videos.
Don, you are so UNDERRATED! I feel like you gave most of the Disney films that you contributed to-- the FEEL of life-- in other words- ANIMATED or breathed in LIFE to your characters. I'm grateful that you choose to share your vast knowledge with other potential animators! It's GREATLY appreciated
I agree. The Secret of NIMH changed my life due to the magic in his animation. It's SO profound how much it influenced me as a child! Nothing else compares to it in my humble opinion. It's timeless animation.
@jvfunn3000 Walt Disney if you are referring to the individual and not the company was actually a pretty bad animator, he was a good storyteller though.
Mr. Bluth you by far have given of us many years of great stories and imagination.
Dragon's Lair by far has the biggest impact on me for my love of animation and me wanting to be an animator. God Bless you sir and every thing you've done for us!
Yes he did. That was the first movie he worked for at Walt Disney Animation Studios. On the Special Edition of Sleeping Beauty during The Making of Sleeping Beauty on Disc 2 they have an interview with Don Bluth towards the end!
Thank you Don Bluth! You've certainly helped me out! God bless you! You're one of my heroes! I'm gonna go work in the animation field when I complete High School in 2010.
Thanks for the tips, Mr. Bluth. I'll remember the "Monkey See, Monkey Do" technique. I have been using it for a while and I plan to go further with it as I go on.
Thank you for such a helpful video! Its interesting to know that copying can actually be a good thing in learning to draw. I had always felt almost guilty in the past when trying to imitate another picture, feeling I should just figure out how to draw and what completely on my own. This video really made me realize how helpful it could actually be.
Don Bluth, it would be a pleasure to meet you if ever i did!
