Shiny Gold is a bit of dissapointment.It is a hack by Fire Red that resembles a remake of the old Gold Version but it sucks a little bit.Levels are so high and you get bored training that much without that Versus Seeker.At least in Gold version you didn't have to train that much experience was enough to make good levels ready for a fight.Also Shiny Gold is a waste of time since you can't complete it.

no you can obtain all starters in the wild with two exceptions: 1)there is a trainer who gives you treeko if you beat her (near bug catching place) and 2)you can buy charmander in the game corner for 2100 coins im not sure about bulbasaur and torchik but mudkip is in union cave and squirtle is in new bark town (surf only in nbt area not route)
