  • on vol 4 right now, its ok but nothing on preacher..

  • With a shaved head, Garth looks like comedian Jim Norton.

  • More news on the upcoming The Boys film.

Over at Bleeding Cool there's a link to an MTV interview with Simon Pegg in which the subject of him playing the part of Wee Hughie in the film comes up, both Garth Ennis & Darick Robertson had Pegg in mind when they created Hughie and film director Adam McKay REALLY wants Pegg for the part and can't imagine anyone else playing Hughie :-)

The trouble is that although Pegg has read the screenplay and loves it, he feels he's too old to play Hughie. :-(

  • isn't it funny how garth ennis hates christianity so much that he can't stop writing stuff about it?

  • He's the kind of writer that makes you cry for the next comic fix. His stuff is pure art and will leave you in stitches of laughter.

  • This man is ridiculously tall in real life. He's great :D

  • seems like Marshall Law' darker though

  • According to Bleeding Cool Russell Crowe is being considered to play Butcher in a possible The Boys film.

Thoughts anyone? He might could pull off the accent all right, but I always thought Butcher might look a little more like Henry Rollins.

  • @cha5 I think if Henry Rollins could pull off the accent, then hell yes, but Russell Crowe would be great too.

  • @cha5 Russell Crowe? Maaaybe he could do it. I find it hard to take him seriously though. He's kind of the same in everything.

Henry Rollins? He's about two and a half foot tall and he can't act.

I think Tom Hardy could be good as Butcher. He's a very versatile actor (compare him in Inception and Bronson), and he can do shit-your-pants intimidating (Bronson again).

  • you know what..fuck constraining him by just saying he's one of the best "comic book" writers..he's one of the greatest WRITERS of all time..period

  • I swear to Christ, sittin down and havin a drink with Ennis might be comparable to suckin off Moses.

  • One of my all time hands down favorite Comic Writers.... Preacher and Punisher for the win!

  • We feature The Boys in one of our videos in our new comic review channel. We'd appreciate it if you checked it out. Yes, this is a shameless plug...

  • It seems every superhero in The Boys is a jerk, even The Boys themselves. Is there at least one truly GOOD superhero who resembles the comic books.

  • @LordBifford IMHO That would probably be Annie, if by a truly GOOD superhero, you mean one who is a genuinely sympathetic character and who still has some ideals and basic dignity.

(despite all she's gone through with The Seven)

  • @cha5 Annie's good-natured, but does she actually get to do good works or she is just a puppet of Vought and the Seven?

  • Garth Ennis grew up in Northern Ireland, a land torn by sectarianism, terrorism, gang warfare, and more. He doesn't buy the silly idealism of mainstream superheroes, because he's painfully aware how violent vigilantism really works.

  • lmao "at which point, whatever it is will get fucked"

  • @EtherJunky It's amazing how he says it with such a straight face

  • What's ironic is that Garth Ennis looks like a character drawn by Steve Dillon

  • i think the boys is a horrible book compared to his other books

  • Love THE BOYS - the best graphic novel in ages.

  • The Boys is fast becoming one of my favourite series of all time. I think I like it even better than Preacher. It's just so gloriously hardcore.

  • Garth Ennis is by far my favourite comic writer ever.

  • "At which point, whatever 'it' is, will get fucked."

  • it ties into the regular series. it's basically explains the events that lead up to "Self Preservation Society"

  • i've looked into an issue of this at my local comics store and i noticed that one of The Boys bears an uncanny resemblance to Simon Pegg.

  • yup, based on his likeness. they're trying to get him to star in the movie i believe.

  • Garth Ennis is the best !!!! i love how he tells the storyes, i love the characters he creates and i love how he can really make you feel that you are reading a realistic story even in a world of superheroes, so far i have read hitman, preacher, the boys, punisher max among others and i loved them, he never writtes a bad story .

as i said before, HE IS THE BEST !!!

  • The Frenchman and The Female are fuckin awesome. Best comic books characters EVER

  • Yes, I love The Female (Of The Species). She's so cute but psychotic. Great combination.

  • Anime Sucks (Exept for Dragon Ball Z)

  • @PunkMetalero96 which proves you dont know shit about japanese comics and cartoons. i luv DBZ too but its for kids and doesnt represent the masterworks the japanese have created. i am a fan of comics in general and i can tell you that plenty of japanese authors and artists have been nominated for and have won will eisner awards, so dont go around making sweeping statements that are not even true.

  • @knightking1360 True enough, Osamu Tezuka (the godfather of Manga)

is in the Eisner hall of fame which has also giants like Jack Kirby, Carl Barks, and other all time greats, so Tezuka is in good company.

  • lend him some hitman....

  • Gave the first three to a friend who's only read Marvel superhero comics, he says 'The Boys' is the best comic he's ever read.

Need to lend him Preacher next :)

  • Loved Preacher, but so far the Boys have only been...ok. Its very, very funny though.

  • if you like the boys read preacher

  • Great comic, first series i've ever really gotten into. Can't wait to see more of Garths "homages" like the new supe team called Fantastico (Fantastic Four Homage) in HEROGASM

  • STILL the best book on the stands, HANDS DOWN! That Terror bit at the end is killer, HAHA!! Hope Garth's at Con this year...

  • I read the first three trades not to long ago and this series rocks.

  • I finally read volume 1 of the BOYS. The action and humor were outrageous! Garth Ennis is GOD!

Question: the superheroes resemble the justice league. Will there ever be a Marvel Avengers or X-Men version of superheroes that will take on the Boys?

    Amen. :)

  • The G-Men are the Boys' analog to the X-Men. And in similar Garth fashion, none of the teams get along. There's G-Coast, G-Style G-Whiz (much like X-Factor, X-Force, eXcalibur etc.)

  • There are Payback and G Men

  • can't forget about the stan lee "homage," the legend.

  • Can't go wrong with Garth Ennis.

  • Preacher is my all time favorite comic books so ill be definitely check out the boys

    thanks for posting this

  • The Boys is fucking hillarious!!! A must for any Garth Ennis fan. No doubt about it.

  • I second that!

  • I, eh, third that. What a great comic, his best since Preacher! I WANT MORE OF IT!

  • FOURTH! The only thing that concerns me is what does the Frenchman do? We know the Female DESTROYS bodies (though we haven't SEEN her do it yet, we've seen the aftermath) but the Frenchman, for being the muscle has yet to do anything but surveillance and keep the Female in check and calm her down when she starts getting anxious to fuck people up.

  • the Frenchman is specialized in bio feedback or some shit like that, guess he's sort of inspired out of a global frequency character. Means he can break his bones and lose eyes and shit and keep going.

  • Are you trying to say that keeping the Female in check is an easy job? Lol!

  • He's done his share of fighting in the comics

  • Two-Fisted goodness from Garth Ennis.

  • So. This Multiverse theory. It means that out there(which is in here at the same time)exists a reality in which Mr Ennis never wrote a single story. Not even half a page. I feel horribly sorry for those poor cunts that exist in that universe.

  • Well is a comic book writer. Genius writer for best know for writing The Punisher,The Boys,Preacher,Fury and Fury:Peacemaker, The Pro,Hitman,Hellblazer and Judge Dredd.

  • One of my favorite writers. Cool accent.

  • So what is the current status of "The Boys", in my country they only released the first 6 episodes and commented at the end that ennis was looking for another publisher.

  • You'll be able to get all your answers in part 5 of the interview next week. Thanks for watching!

    ~TheCC

  • its in the 3rd or 4th volumes right now, not sure what issue
