After I watched this, I hugged my mom for doing such a great thing, she adopted a homeless baby boy who was left in the hospital by his birth mother. Soon I will leave my mothers house and hope that this baby boy will grow up not to be rebellious, and would not have a bitter heart against his birth mother, I hope he would feel thankful to God and that he will accept us as his family as we have accepted him. We may not be blood related but I love my new baby brother, Jason.

You dehumanize the child's natural mother. You deny her reality and pain and suffering, but your dismissive attitude toward the mother doesn't change her and her child's reality. God knows this. Only human beings are blind to it. You possess the adopted child's body, not her mind, heart and soul. Those belong to God. She'll always be connected to her mother and other kindred spirits. Adoption cannot sever those primal bonds. Children know this. Adults deceive themselves.
WONDERFUL! The voice, the poem, was a representation of all the voices of children waiting to be adopted. She is telling her story as a symbolism of the others that are just like her in story ... it doesn't matter the country ... it's the child. I am an adopting Mom to a beautiful Chinese baby girl. I am blessed by her life ... as this story says in the beginning ... I am LIFE ... and I am blessed her Mother chose that for her. I am eternally grateful and blessed by her choice!
It this video meant to explain the beginning of int. adoption in Korea or is it meant to promote adoptional adoption in Korea today?
If it is to promote int adoption, then that's dishonest and disgusting. Where are the images of the modern Korea, the 11th largest economy of the world, with their healthy single mothers relinquishing their children and the americain prospective parents acting like votour in the name of some sad old pictures taken when Korea was poor?
I adopted a boy from Korea. His birthmother was single, college student, and was 22yrs of age. She did not feel she was ready to be a parent. I would glady give my life for my son. I love him deeply and I am grateful to his birthmom for having the self-less integrity to acknowledge she wasn't ready to be a parent. We're not "votour's". We love our children, their birthcountry and their birthparents. Don't judge us adoptive parents until you have walked in our shoes.
I think you should watch again. You should also perhaps do a little research on the Orphan Crisis. What matters is that her parents chose LIFE and that the Lord gave HOPE when he predestined this baby girl into the arms of her adopting parents. Never to discount her birth country and birth parents but to celebrate the testimony of God's Mercy and God's HOPE that is in each of us who are called to care for the Orphans and take care of the widows. Listen, learn and obey his commands.
This is all fine and dandy ... but why don't more people in the U.S.A. ever think out DOMESTIC adoption???? There are THOUSANDS of children right here in THIS COUNTRY who need homes... I guess they're not cute enough! Sad.
I also adopted my 2 children, but I did Korean (through Holt). My children's appearance had nothing to do with my decision. If you must know, we tried to do a domestic adoption, 3 times and 3 times the birth mothers backed out. Now THAT is sad. I love my children and that is all that matters.
@Kiljan137 I was adopted here in the US. I've always known I was adopted and I don't mind it at all. If I wasn't adopted my life would have been pretty crappy (I found out who my birthmom was). Even though its interesting to meet my biological family, my adoptive family is my "real" family.
God does not love orphans in the US any more than He loves children in other countries. A child is a child-no matter where they are. It is much harder to adopt internationally but what happens to an orphan in the USA when she turns 18 and is on her own? The story ends much differently in countries such as China. At least orphans inthe US have a chance at a life once they leave the system. They are not literally bought and sold like in other countries. :(
@Godschosengirl Children are absolutely bought and sold in the US.
What is exceedingly sad in International adoption is that children lose their cultures and original families because of harsh unethical laws in their original countries and lack of adequate dependency management.
The Great Commission was "go and tell" not, "go and take." The Holy Spirit's calling is effective. He does not need unethical laws, adoption, and forced Americanization to bring someone into his fold.
What we need to do is demand ethical treatment of people and justice. Demand that orphanages stop being used to manage dependency. Demand that original families stay together. Demand that children who need food and clothes be given food and clothes---NOT new parents.
You say, "orphans in the US have a chance at a life once they leave the system." But the facts aren't positive for children who remain without families. Google for "aging out" and you'll get a lot of information on what it's like for children in the U.S. who have no families to care for them.
It's not "harder", necessarily. It's harder in some ways, and easier in other ways.
There are thousands in every country, a child is a child no matter where they come from. Children oustside this country desreve it as much as the children inside this country. They're all little people in need of love and protection.
@aodoco True. However most children in need of adoptive homes domestically are older African American children who need to be placed with siblings. These are great kids too... but unfortunately, most Americans don't prefer them.
@eelwoman75 I don't know that it has to do with most American's not wanting them, yes they do need loving permanent families and permanent homes, I am an anthropologist, I think it has more to do, the fact that the problems the orphans here have orphans abroad would love to have, the problems Americans have in general there are others all over the world that would gladly trade. Believe it or not the homeless in America are more affluent than others worldwide
This is an awesome video/poem. Holt Int'l and its workers...keep doing the great job that you have been doing since the begining of a dream over 50 years ago.

a child born to a birth mother has borrowed their birth mother's womb to be born but belongs spiritually to those of their adoptive parents.

This story leaves out the history of the child, their genes, their heritage, and their natural parents.

Beautifully done. Our children are also adopted but we adopted ours from the NY state welfare system.
All children, world wide, need our love.

You sound pretty compassionate about Domestic adoption. Maybe you should consider doing one.

Being adopted myself, I've always wanted to adopt. I am currently in the process of adopting as a matter of fact.
