  • Very informative....good show chap

  • yes, I like the hat! ... that's very natural, like the real farmers!

  • Like the potato videos, thank you

  • Cant you just weave a new hat for free with some straws saving you buy a new hat!

  • should invest in a mantis field and brush mower. I know money today is tight take it from me. I am an unemployed 1/3 of the year and 2/3 under employed carpenter.

  • Very good man!! Kind of reminded me of the Blair Witch Project, with the camera movement and all. LOL. Wish I was at your dining room table this winter! Lovely!!

    Thank you

  • How long can you keep your Potatoes Bagged like that? How do you store them, keep stuff from them, etc?

  • thanks, this video answered some questions for me. This year is new for planting potatoes and I've got a lot to learn.

  • The fence in the background at 4:35 looks gigantic! Till you see a car pass by at 5:09

  • I would like to know how you can tell when to harvest the potatoes. We are in a warmer climate (southern TX) and do not have a frost to kill the leaves. Thanks for your help.

  • The tops should still start to turn yellow when they are done and ofcoarse you can dig up a few and you will see how big they are but about 90 days.

  • Here's a way to get loads of potatoes in minimal space with minimal work. Basically create a circle with chicken wire, plant your potatoes in the center of it (1-3 depending on size of circle). When it grows up good, put some straw around the stems and leave a little showing. Repeat till the whole circle is filled with straw. When harvesting, remove the circle and sift through the straw.

  • make a video, so we can understand what you are describing!

  • I would not grow any edible crop in tires due to outgassing- similar to pressure treated wood. Better to hill them up or mulch them heavily like a lasagna garden. Do the work, enjoy the fruits.

  • The easy way I grow potatoes is to grow them in stacked old tires (raised bed) then when its time to harvest just unstack tires. If you have loader tractor it easy use large tires if not use regular tires

  • That must be a hell of a lot of digging getting all those potatoes up! How do you dig over all that land to prepare it for next year's planting - hand dig it? Plus, do you dig in manure each year - farmers here in Poland always do this ... the kids are certainly being a help which is good to see.

  • hey like the knot trick man those potatoes look good nothing like fresh grown

  • yes they seem to do well for us

  • Hay and by the way keep that old hat, I like it.

  • will do

  • @ShawnCFarm agree, ... the hat is very interesting!

  • Great repost!!!! You are a good man!! I wish I could get out of where I am and do what you are doing (only on a much larger scale!!!) I'm tired of relying on the government!!

  • you never know something might come up are you in ont can?

  • man i wish i had property like u so i could garden

  • we hope you will find that if your in ontario can mabey i could help pm me

  • I really appreciated the bit about tying a bag up

  • your welcome man

  • Nice potatoes , your children will appreciate good french fries this winter . Good advice to close and open potato bag easily .

  • thanks your welcome

  • your potatos look good! , i had a good crop this year as well .

good job on all the videos

  • thanks glad your crop was good

  • wow my friend you are in potatoe heaven, look at all of those spuds. you might consider getting you a lister plow to use on your ferguson tractor next year if you all keep growing large patches of potatoe's. make's it alot easier getting them out of the ground, my dad use to raise a lot of potatoes like that as well and his old lister plow made it like nothing to dig up a whole patch in a day. great video my friends.

  • if we get a bigger place we are going to get a harvester

  • how long will the keep in a cold dark basement before they go bad?

Also I would love to see an old snowblower converted into a harvester.

  • they seemed to start sprouting in march or april

  • nice knot i'll be having that!

  • they hold well

  • the tater farmers around here burn the fields of stalks before harvesting... man summer went fast. i just harvested my taters yesterday... first time i grew them. they were all different sizes and some of them still attached to each other

  • interesting burning might help with any eggs or fungus to

  • hey man great vids..i restore and use a two wheeled garden tractor called the david bradley check them out sears and robuck sold them in the 40s and 50s they are real handy and have alot of attchments look into them u would be real pleased and are fairly cheap.....keep the vids coming..

  • those and speedx tractors were very practical and i wished they still made them no they are all deisel kabotas that cost as much as a brandnew truck

  • nice vid guys, wish our taters did that good

  • did you guys get the late blight?

  • I'm not sure, the plants seemed to die early and I think I waited to long to dig them up and they were rotten, been the only year that happened though, does that sound like the blight?

  • Great vid. Nice team :) Looks like you grew some nice sized ones. I saw a peek of the greenhouse in this vid. I have been really curious about how it yielded in the end. It's probably still giving you new green tomatoes isn't it?

  • it seems that there is more plant then tomatoes still flowering though

  • I have often thought about what it would be like to live off the land. No electric, no gas. You need to cut wood for fires, cooking, cleaning, everything!! I probably wouldn't last long though!! LOL. Anyways, great video man!!!!

  • the honnest truth is thats what i would rather do anyday

  • We didn't get our garden in this year and now I wish I did. I got it plowed under again and hopfully we will make use of it next year. Good luck on the potatoe hunt.

  • thanks

  • These are things everyone should know

  • well thats just it or they will have to know
