-sigh- Season three had Derek being extreamly bipolar, I don't know if it was the writing or what...but as sweet as his McDreamy moments are, he's kind of an ass... He doesn't act like he knows she's that broken. He wants her to be normal, but like he said "her mother never wanted her, her father wasn't man enough to stick around" and this isn't too long after Christina was left at the alter, that obviously didn't help.

Such a sad moment. I love MerDer together. Sometimes the pain is just too much. I can see why Derek is so hesitant to stay with her, she was careless with her life. She came back for him... but still. Awh. This always makes me cry.
