don't now if I' ve commented on this before but... Great video. you effectively induced my drool quite a few times. may have to pony up for this.... would LOVE to hear this run through some metasonix gear.
makes me getting unsure if i want the evolver as in this video or the mopho.. what do you think is better for beautyful vintags sounds and sounddesign?
@Goth108 Get the Evolver! It can do the vintage sounds, some of which you hear here, but is also capable of much deeper sound design (also on display in the video) thanks to it's delays, digital osc's, highpass filter, hack options... all things the Mopho lacks. The Evolver's feedback is also tuned, the Mopho's isn't. Not that the Mopho is bad, but get the Evolver first, you definitely won't regret it. I forgot editing too, the matrix on the Evolver is easier than editing the Mopho.
So this video is making me want to purchase one of these. As previously commmented this is by far the best demo of the evolver on youtube... i just hope that i can get as good as you if i do buy it :)
Can the evolver desktop be played with a controller keyboard, to play notes in real time like a regular synth does, or can it only do step sequencing?
I was very torn on purchasing the Evolver or starting up a modular system. Your video sold me on the Evolver and showed me how this machine can do much more then what I first thought (all with just using built in effects and sequencer, WOW). Thank you for your sick skills and keen sense of sound.
If I am correct, the Evolver desktop has four oscillators, each with its own internal sequence. However, if I wanted to use an externnal sequencer, such as the MPC 1000, to control each oscillator seperatly, as in create 8 sequences on the MPC and want to trigger 4 different sequences to thedifferent oscillators and switch patterns, would that be possible. If so, which MIDI channels are the different oscillators operating on.
tell me: how are you playing the evolver? i mean, i dont see MIDI connections... and there's no keyboard... how can u create notes and patterns? thanks!
This has a midi in, thru, out, so I am assuming that, not only can it drive, but it can be driven by other arpegiators/sequencers? I am looking to connect it with a Juno G, Access Virus Ti, and Korg MS2000R.
i am very impatient with user interface that is not user friendly, how is the ui on this thing? i like the sounds and i want to get this, but the ui looks like a problem?
It's actually not that hard to get to grips with. I had a play with one last week, I just bought one off ebay :) There is a computer editor available from the DSI site that makes it even easier to edit, only $49.
i've had one since 2002,they are indeed fun. i think the most bang for the buck. don't be fooled by the simple looking interface, the synth engine is amazing..4 tempo delays,4 sequencers,4 lfo's,4 osc's, curtis chip analog filter, for the price you cant beat it
There's a step sequencer in all the evolvers. The mono evolver has a 4x16 step sequencer which you can program yourself. The patterns you are hearing were created by him, and did not come as one of the patches of the instrument.
i want to thank you for doing a demo that is not just utilizing the synth for ridiculous rave and breakbeat sounds, but actually shows the functions of the device. nice vid, man.
Fucking beautiful! Nice job! DSI packed a lot of features in that little box. I'm saving up for the MEK. I plan on doing some serious "zoning out." thanks for posting. Keep it up!
Great sound for this monophonic machine. I know many mono-machines, but the most have the same sound. This one is very analog-like. I love it, thanks!
Totally wonderful demo of just exactly how to use this little beast. I graduated to the MEK, and now have sold it, and will be going back to the DEVO. I used it mostly for effects, so for me was no reason to have those keys, and getting around on the DEVO is really not that bad after all...as this demo so wonderfully shows. Thanks for this...going to bed now on a good note.
Nicely done!

@culturaleyes It can do both. I don't own one but the manual is available for free on the DSI site and it details its very generous features.

Can this send midi-notes to other synths, to play sequence with other synth?

@vintagesynthlover it's a step sequencer in it.

how many parts does it have, it's multi the evolver?
alespardo 3 years ago
only mono. but the internal sequencer is split into 4 16 step parts..
so you can route one 16 step sequence to each of the 4 oscillators, and have 4 single oscillator parts.

amazing, this is a song on its own.

YpsiSynth 3 years ago
Hey, cool synth. Does it works alone or needs an external MIDI device to control it? Has an internal sequencer?
acido909 3 years ago
Yes it has an internal 16 step sequencer, and each patch can store it's own sequence.

Very nice anyway, thanks for upping this.

I have watched this vid many times.
This is by far the best evolver demo/performance online period!
I'm serious, DSI himself should have you making his demos since no else out there is really exploiting its features like this.
Thanks!
