If you notice no bodyboarder even talked down on stand up srufing, until PakaloloSwami opened his mouth, that's when shit started. Same thing where I surf, stand up surfers are douche bags and think they own the water. Before people developed the right board to be stood up on, or the BALANCE required to keep the position ontop of the board, PEOPLE RODE PRONE, that's bellydown for you nubs. Stand up surfing came after bodyboarding, it dosen't really matter, bodyboarding is much more fun, faster, bigger aerials blah blah blah.

@kanolover3956 I don't deny that Hawaiians invinted it, I'm not disputing that, but you would have to ride prone before you stood up. Nobody stands up on their first ride w/o falling. They rode prone or on their kness (DK; drop knee) first, then began to stand up, developing balance and skill. Henece making bodyboarding first. IMHO, I could care less. But when I'm boarding, I NEVER see new surfers JUST STAND UP with out riding prone or DK first. Unless it's BJ Penn who has wild balance!

Polynesians started riding the waves on boards laying down to get to shore. Thats who first rode waves. The only thing hawaiians or anyone else "invented" was different ways to do what has already been done. As for "I've never seen a new surfer just stand up" well I've never seen a new bodyboarder just hit an ARS

@fcalatroni1 No biggie brah! It was classified as a sport in '71, but that doesn't mean it wasn't around. Curling wasn't a sport until it was put into the Olympics, but people have curled for years. No stand up surfer paddles out and automatically stands on his first wave crest, he rides the waves prone; hence bodyboarding. Islanders in the East have been body boarding for nearly 250 years.
