Just before the banks collapsed he still had a defecit of £68 billion yet the economy was growing, so thats says one thing...too much spending by Brown!!!

A lot of people think taxes have been used to build the new hospitals and schools, what they don't realise is that he's used PFI to the tune of £216 billion over the next 25 years to build them.
Example, 8 hospital buildings...total build cost, £56 million........PFI cost to the taxpayer over 25 years £8 billion.........
Great Chancellor and PM aint he.
He certainly knows how to get value for money.

my friend this is problomatic on several fronts. since you are a tory i would have thought you would understand that being prudent is investing when the money is there as we can profit more than simply saving !! a lot more so he did the right thing there. Camerans prudence is to fly in the face of the hole worlds advice and cut in a ressesion hahhaha do you realize the entire banking system would have collapsed !! not to mention all the torie arguments for deregulation of the city more to come

@Mickmars90 the budget deficit was not caused by labour, learn some economics, or even if you dont do that, at least remember that almost every country in the world has a huge deficit because of problems caused by BANKS, underregulated by every country, which have all paid the price for it. the tories are busy driving the country into a giant second recession, not only making a double dip certain, by making stupid cuts, and many of them completely unfair for the majority of people.

@hughshikarii What fucking planet you on............Brown managed the biggest defecit (even without the bank bailout) we have ever seen in peacetime. Economics, well tax receipts rose from £316 to £520 billion between 1997 & 2010. In 2000 he had a surplus of approx £17 billion, 2002 was £19 billion in defecit & this trend continued to rise. Just before the banks collapsed he still had a defecit of £68 billion yet the economy was growing, so thats says one thing...too much spending by Brown!!!

@markyboy1704 those figures came about not because of much to do with Brown at all but a generally very healthy european economic climate during the Chancellor's period in office during which we experienced a sort of 'boom', and governments have had massive budget deficits since world war 1 non stop because it doesn't necessarily indicate poor economic performance, that Labour government's 'over-spending' helped to fuel that boom by stimulating economic growth through increasing aggregate demand

@hughshikarii 88,89,99,2000,2001 all budget SURPLUS years. In 97 we had a balance of payments in surplus, a defecit of approx £15 billion, by 2000 we had an approx £17 billion SURPLUS, yet in 08 before bank bailout we had a £68 billion defecit. The economy had been in constant growth since 92.
We have record PFI debt not included with this & figures suggest that 1/4 of NHS budgets will be spent on PFI debt by NHS authorities.
Brown was a disasterous chancellor robbing pensions & selling gold.

The Lisbon Treaty is something which will have a big effect on our lives. The people should be the ones who decide on how they are governed, thus the people should have a say on the Lisbon Treaty. No referendum is simply undemocratic. However, our government appears to disagree.
