  • Miss @ 1:34?

  • @JDMTurbonetics Yup! That arrow glanced off a rock and flew into a blackberry patch :)

  • Them arrows cost an arm and a leg! But if you can afford that bow I suppose you can afford the arrows!

  • @MrBagginsEsq Hey MrBagginsEsq! You should get the Rudderbows hickory warbow shafts then make your own arrows! A lot less expensive and hickory makes a fantastic war arrow.

  • Nice bow Dagonet, I know Jim and he makes nice bows. I build them also and Jim was instrumental in my learning, years ago. I like boo , but hickory is my favorite. Arrows I like ash and douglas fir for heavy shafts, Did you know they used to fasten the bodkins arrow head to the rod, (they called it) with wax. Leaves the projectile in the warrior .....Denny

  • Awesone video and great looking bow. And thanks for the kind words!

  • you really shouldnt use oak arrows, oak is very hard and heavy wood so your arrows dont fly as far as lighter wood arrows would, try ash or pine, they make good arrows

  • @loadedClownZ Yeah, thanks mate! This vid was made back when I first dived into warbow archery. I now use hickory arrows actually. Despite hickory been a good solid wood, 3/8" hickory shafts fly great, with great speed and hitting power.

P.S. when those oak arrows hit, they hit with a mean punch!

  • @Dagonet29 yes hickory make great arrows i've heard but where i live cant get hickory so i have never tried, pine fly well but they dont penetrate as good as hardwood but for target shooting they are good. i heard this bow delaminated, what a shame.

  • Wow, that looks like a fast bow. You should make another video of it .

What was your target and what was the range of the shots.

    Thanks

  • @warbowgeeks Thanks man! My target was a cardboard box full of paper! hhaha, it was only ten meters away. I just wanted to showcase the bow and such. Unfortunately I left this bow in a hot car for a little too long and it delamanited at one end, so I going to have to repair that soon. I do plan on more videos, and am always building more bows!

  • Thanks mate, I am metaxata1 from PP. I have a few good boards from ipe and I think for some laminate warbows recently from boo/ipe type - 34x26 and 13x13. Should go a good weight.

  • @joroborisoff Nice! You may have already guessed, Im Dagonet from PP. I really liked you recent post showing the ash longbow! Yeah, boo/ipe laminations make great bows for sure!

  • What are the dimensions of this bow in the handle and the nocks?

  • @joroborisoff These are in millimeters: At the handle 33 x 24, and the tips 12 x 13

  • I haven't read through all you comments or blog yet, but do you have/shoot an all yew bow? Just wondering.

  • This is highly impressive. I would certainly try this kind of medieval archery, but the fear of a shoulder injury wouldnt go well with the target archery that I am involved with.

  • Oh - and one final question ... from where do you get your arrows?

  • @OrneryBoy67 Message sent.

  • Dagonet29 -- If I could ask another question (I really have no one local to guide me with the longbow).

I've been working with a 70lb longbow for about 2 months. One occasional recurring issue I have is that my deltoid muscle on my upper left arm (bow holding arm) gets pretty sore. I'm trying to remember always to pull with my back.

Its only my bow arm where the muscle gets sore, My wife is a therapist and keeps warning me about tendonitis.

Any advice? I'm assuming Im not drawing correctly.

  • You draw that bow like it's nothing! You've got me inspired. How long did it take you to work up to the 100 lb. weight?

  • @OrneryBoy67 About two weeks after I recieved the bow I could draw it comfortably and loose about 6 well aimed arrows before tiring out. Now, a year since recieveing the bow I can loose arrows all day! It just took that first month to condition my body. Best of luck!

  • @Dagonet29 -- Thanks, though somehow for me I think it'll take a lot longer to get up to that draw weight than it did you. I'm currently doing 70lbs, and can go about an hour before I turn to mush. Do you do other upper body strength training?

Also, thanks for your great video! .. it's what got me hooked on longbows about 6 months ago.

  • @OrneryBoy67 Before I recieved this bow I had been using a 55lb one. I was surprised at what I could do. It was a real acomplishment :) I don't do any strength training at all. Although, Im sure it would be beneficial. Glad I could be so inspirational for man!

  • 1:33 FAIL

  • @gabrielbap1 BAHAHA, yup. Found that arrow in a huge blackberry briar after 30 minutes of searching...

  • Bought a stave kit. Not satisfied.. Contacted by email and they did nothing to make it right. Said I was rude for complaining. Hypocrite.

  • @dzldoctor Are you calling me a hypocrite? If you are shame on you, I have had no problems with them. I am sorry things didnt work out for you. Did you try calling? Perhaps you can better convey your concerns that way. Best of luck!

  • @dzldoctor how is that hypocritical? maybe you should use a better choice of words? have a nice day :)

  • Your target is close as the time between the bow release and the sound is to close.

    Nice vid though thank you.

  • @nicksynnz Yup, you're right. The target is very close! However, this wasn't meant to be an accuracy or armor penetrastion test so it ok. Thanks for watchin man!

  • Hi form the UK.

    Nice video.

I have a 100lb @ 32 inches but I don't look as comfortable as you when I draw it. You appear to draw your with ease so expect you'll have little problem with a 120lb yew bow @ 32 inches.

PS. Saw the EWBS doing a demo in the UK this year and one of their members was drawing a 160lb yew bow... awesome to see.

  • @John19668 Thank you for watching! I was surprised at how easy it became after a few weeks of shooting. Im a little bit rusty at themoment beeccause I haven't been shooting much. I am excited to go up in draw weight soon though. That is very fortunate of you to have seen such a refined and enthusiastic group of warbow archers!

  • @Dagonet29

..Looks to me you're ready to pull it to 32", if the bow can take it.

  • @nidrinr Thanks nidrinr! I have made a few 32" arrows since this video was posted and the bow really performs when pulled to 32"!

  • @Dagonet29

-I guess it pulls about 120# when pulled to 32". If you make a standard arrow or two, you could test it for lengt and compare it to other war bows.

  • @nidrinr I have only one standard arrow made cause I ran out of materials. Now I just need to find some space to loose the bow for distance.

  • @Dagonet29

Yep, an open space is more or less required. I guess you'll land the standard arrows past the 200 meters mark.

  • How is your experience with Rudderbows? I was thinking of ordering from them for my next bow. I dont think ill be getting your particular one, but definitely one of the English longbows they have.

  • @LotusDragon09 My experience with them has been extrordinary! Each bow is superbly crafted and they are the kindest folks to work with!

  • bow looks nice :) i don't see any horn nocks is that correct? and from my point, but thats not totally sure i see the lower limb bending more... u confirm that or?

    Nice bow nevertheless :)

  • @vinsk8er4life Nope, no horn nocks :) All the woods used are hard enough not to need them. However, if and when I get a yew bow I definitely want horn nocks! Historically accurate and nice looking too. Since I'm left handed the bow tilts toward the cam in this video, so that may be the reason the lower limb apears to bend more. Good eye! I plan on making more vids with this bow so I'll keep that in mind. Thnx for watchin!

  • @Dagonet29 ok cool! I am shooting a 65 @28 english longbow.

Made of jatoba and hickory, its amazingly fast amd has horn nocks too.

Yeah they really sort of 'finish' the bow.

I didn't think of left handed haha good one!

A local bowyer here is researching for bows with loose hornen nocks.

    Curious to see that.

Good luck shooting! When I record smth I will let you know!

    Cheers

  • @vinsk8er4life Loose horn nocks! Now that is curious! I've heard that they do work tho :) I'll be sure to watch whatever you record! I love warbow anything! haha

  • Awesome bow!

  • Nice Shoot bro. nice to see you haveing fun.
