  • Stupid is as stupid does!

  • uhh, yeah. i live by the pacific ocean, and have been playing in waves bigger than that since i was 6 years old. I understand that you shouldnt stand near a breakwall during high surf but i still dont see why your flabber gasted to the level you are.

  • @squidtastic84, You don't play in waves & weather like that as the cold water, air, & wind will cause hypothermia fast. That large wooden box structure was moved by the lake waves ~100yds. from where it originally sat, & that means the waves were bigger when it was moved, & larger waves do come in with the smaller ones you see in the video. The undertoe is also bad & the water is heavy with sand.

  • @christof139, i can agree with the hypothermia risk, but i still think that our standards for large/powerful surf and undertow are very different. As i said before, i have been swimming in waves 2-3 times that height for many years of my life and have dealt with undertow and "heavy water". I know all about those things, what they feel like, and what they are capable of. But, i do agree with you that getting soaked in those temps and spending time in water that cold is very dangerous.

  • @squidtastic84, Yes, size isn't everything. Their winter/fall clothing would also help drown them. The waves in the Graet Lakes can move extremely fast even in comparison to the sea, & the undetoes can be very bad. In very choppy water like that, regardless if warm or cold, there is undertoe, currents, & the waves are coming close together so they can simply beat a person down & have done so even to excellent swimmers etc.

  • @squidtastic84, BTW, I've swum in ocean rollers maybe ~12-foot, & that is what they are rollers, not a turbulent, tangled mess of water like in this video. A person couldn't stand waist deep in that water without taking a good chance of being carried away etc.

  • @squidtastic84

You have no idea how nasty the great lakes can be... having lived on lake michigan for 15 years most of the people who drown are coasters who think they have been through "bigger" lake michigan and superior and huron have taken down SHIPS lighthouses abound for a reason.

The great lakes are no joke and can have absolutely massive storms. I would DARE YOU to swim in that. BTW that is a fairly mild storm by superior standards.

  • @Psilaxs, as far as ships go, open ocean storm swell is not what im talking about. im talking about breaking surf. I would never swim in that because it looks freezing, and true it is quite choppy and i did notice some decent sized shore breakers there. i see how some would drown. but this person here doesnt seem to be in any direct danger, if it was sunny and warm, and the water was warmer i would stand near water....maybe not near the wall.

  • @squidtastic84

Here is the thing and i do not mean this in a negetive way i can tell you have never been to the great lakes or at least during this time of the year. The under currents are much stronger in fall and winter - even though the waves may look to be the same size in the summer (which they are not) Also, the rapid frequency of the waves the close spacing makes them apear much smaller than they are.

I suppose it is just one of those things you have to experience to "respect"

  • @squidtastic84, Do you realize that the large wooden crib she is standing next to was moved ~100yds. by the waves & currents, & that means that the waves were larger than what is shown in the video, & it also means that every now & than a larger rogue type wave cames barreling into shore. I think the guy that made the video said the crib was moved the prior night when the storm was much worse than in the video.

  • It's called adrenaline junkie aka living life on the edge. Let her be lol

  • lol

yea, seems foolish enough. were they drunk? I wouldn't rule it out. But, some people like to have a good time and don't mind the possibility of dying. Without the possibility of death, things aren't as exciting

They got some epic shots, you got a video of them taking epic shots

  • freethebikes, Knee deep? At 0:05 it is neck deep. The undertoe could pull her back into the waves. That wooden crib was moved there by the waves from about 100yds away. She almost gets nailed by a 10-footer later on in the video.

Morons like you should be quite.

  • dude. you're such a little girl. She's like kneed deep in water and you're freaking out the whole time.

  • They probably got some cool shots... but they came also close to getting a one-time-only shot of a body suddenly disappearing under the waves. Darwin was right for a reason.

  • real dumb

  • Problem is that in the Great Lakes the water is very cold, especially in Lk. Superior even in the summer, and you can drown/ quickly from heavy clothing getting soaked and very heavy and by hypothermia. Temps. have hit -20F to -60F (in Minnesota -60F, -51F in lower Michigan) without including the windchill factor.

  • LOL - I love how confused you are by the whole thing. They are trying to take pictures and yeah it's real weird but live and let live. I'd rather let people do that then do what we do here in Hawaii and close all the beaches when the waves get huge for "our protection." Let people enjoy nature - and yes, it can get dangerous.

  • Yaeh, dumb, most likely drunk, and lucky.

  • Could you imaginge if all of a sudden a large rogue wave came and lifted that crib up again!?..I mean that thing was just moved there during the storm from by the Veterans memorial. I bet those are some really cool pictures though!

  • I really don't understand why they would be standing there doing that.. there's good reason as to why they say Lake Superior doesn't give up her dead, and thats just tempting her to prove it.

  • I was expecting the worst..
