What? The Semi-auto M2 I have doesn't have anything "advanced" in it. And I use the same belts and bullets the military uses.
In M2's the bolt is only fully locked on the first round, or semi auto fire. During full auto it fires about 1/16 of an inch before full lock.
And exactly how does timing come into the first shot anyways? This seems like a damaged/dirty cartridge. Possible reuse of "range drop" rounds. Or a bad/damaged SLAP.

It's a timing issue. The M2 uses advanced primer ignition. If the timing is incorrect, it will set off the round too soon before the bolt locks and blow out the side of the case. That wasn't a blocked bore, you would have heard the bolt trying to come out the back of the gun...
You can also see the smoke is coming out the bottom of the receiver and not the bore or around the barrel...
The video should read, "Instructor tells student to fire with obstructed barrel, student gets injured."
The student couldn't have "misloaded" this belt fed gun. The reason the instructor worked the action is probably because the last round was a squib and the gun probably didn't properly cycle. When the instructor cycled it manually, the last bullet (Not a round, a BULLET) was still lodged in the barrel (Not the chamber, the BARREL). It wasn't the students "stupidity" that hurt him.
It also seems entirely clear that this occurred during training. Otherwise there wouldn't be a guy showing the gunner how to shoot. If you were being trained, you would probably trust your instructor. Another thing is that at no time during the video did he load the weapon. It's belt fed, he simply worked the action when he leaned forward, nobody loaded it. So I have no clue how they would have "misloaded" it or anything else. It seems incredibly clear that it resulted from a previous squib.
I have to wonder how many people talking shit have any clue about what probably happened here. The person in command likely ordered him to fire the weapon, and he did so, trusting the person with more experience.
If you've never heard of a Squib load, it might be useful to look it up before you talk all of this shit. If the last shot was a squib, the subsequent shot will almost certainly cause the problem encountered in this video when using any firearm. I don't think it has to do with "yanks."
When you consider the difficulty it appeared the instructor had working the action, he should have immediately known something was wrong. An instructor has a responsibility to protect his students (privates, maggots, what-have-you), not to set them up for a injury.
Kind of reminds you why the forward assist on the M16/M4 rifle is a bad idea... if a round won't chamber easily, it needs to be checked - not jammed in.

All I saw was an explosion. This can happen any number of ways. It could be as simple as an obstructed barrel, possibly a result of a previously fired squib load, and it may not be the shooters fault at all.
If his instructor told him to shoot this weapon then he likely did just that. Folks in the military don't always have the luxury of just second guessing everything they're told to do. They generally do what they're told, especially if it's something that normally goes perfectly fine.

If you've never heard of a Squib load, it might be useful to look it up before you talk all of this shit. If the last shot was a squib, the subsequent shot will almost certainly cause the problem encountered in this video when using any firearm. I don't think it has to do with "yanks."

When you consider the difficulty it appeared the instructor had working the action, he should have immediately known something was wrong. An instructor has a responsibility to protect his students (privates, maggots, what-have-you), not to set them up for a injury.
Kind of reminds you why the forward assist on the M16/M4 rifle is a bad idea... if a round won't chamber easily, it needs to be checked - not jammed in.

Atleast some people actually know something about belt fed weapons on here. Thats my bet, ozziemo. I didnt see anything in this video that says the malfunction was shooter error. Looks like timing/headspace issue which caused case head seperation and the subsequent explosion. That gun will prolly get a new bolt and side plate and be ready to rock again. May not even need a new bolt.

All I saw was an explosion. This can happen any number of ways. It could be as simple as an obstructed barrel, possibly a result of a previously fired squib load, and it may not be the shooters fault at all.
If his instructor told him to shoot this weapon then he likely did just that. Folks in the military don't always have the luxury of just second guessing everything they're told to do. They generally do what they're told, especially if it's something that normally goes perfectly fine.

it's noth that he didn't load the weapon wrong, the armorer didn't adjust the head space and timing before firing. .50 cals do that when they aren't adjusted everytime the barrel is installed.
