Not many people know this but in order to successfully have a rwd wrx/sti you and drift it successfully you MUST change out the steering rack!!!!!!! the turning radius' are shit!
funny how it says RWD an not AWD..............u'd think that with the amount of time some of u spend commenting on people's youtube vids, that u'd invest in actually reading an taking note before commenting. its not AWD......its RWD, an the car was designed for AWD, so i think he has done well with his (attempt) like he said. he never said he was pro. KUDOS to u mate for giving it a go :)
it's a coool vid and all, but drifting in the snow with a 96 Civic with no mods, with equal results is kinda embarassing, i thought an STI could do better... try cuttin in early,
pushing the momentum out, and then ease into the drift, let ur back even 'drift' to the other side, u can extend ur drift that way, instead of that 'kick/jerk' at the end of ur drifts, use that momentum, and wen u can do that without the jerk at the end, u learn the feel of ur car, and take each turn harder, better, faster, stronger
=p haha i hate that song. (you also look less pussy-ish =p) not tryna be a dick my nigga, but with this car, u can go faar beyond lots of ppl. I would have considered drifting to be slightly easier (at high speeds) with an AWD? with the assitance of a handbrake wen needed. STI's RULE ...lol long ass comment.
wow are you serious the fact that it took you snow to get equal results shows how much you suck, at least he has the power to slide that way on dry pavement. It isnt much to say you can slide like that on snow, takes no skill. Remember V8 no V-tec. Definition of Torque- my lug nut need more torque than ur honda makes. 95 GT 5.0
yea your lugnut would take need more torque, but you and your lugnuts dont make up for the nuts ur missin... you dont need power to drift properly, i'm saying he could do it better and should do it better because he has suchan amazing car, however, with the honda in the snow i can make it look more beautiful than this... its angles and speed and exit, lets see how good you pull shit off in snow or pavement.
Wel.l... that is only partially true. When you do that, depending on the program you use for your center diff, you simply unlock the center diff. Power still goes to the front wheels. With this sleeve, no power goes to the front... all to the back, i.e. true RWD.
@OS1TOuno u dont really have to e-brake all the time, you could flick the car from right to left or power over during the turn to initiate a drift , word of advice
No. You leave the axles. The only change it she center diff. Instead of the DCCD for the STI or regular diff for the wrx and RS, you buy a sleeve that is has geared teeth on the rwd part and smooth on the front = RWD only
Yea we get some shitty weather here (Shetland - few hundred miles North of the UK). But I recently blew a gearbox and had to replace it - so I hav a spare centre-diff to experiment with :D :D One of the forums I read reckoned the transfer gears and back diff + diff mountings weren't strong enough for RWD, but fuck it - it looks awesome.
Awesome - keep practising mate, missed the RWD since I dumped my S13 for a GC8, u can apparently gut the centre-diff and weld it shut for total RWD but I havent tried it yet - think its basically what you're getting from rocketrally dot com but with no warranty or comeback! :D Keep it up.
I seem to do alot better drifting on pavement with my DCCD set on AUTO. Check out my vids, i rail my stock STi through some drift events pretty hard...4 tires smoking;)
Was not hard at all. This was discussed extensively in posts below. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. There are many ways to make it rwd. Best way in my opinion is the temporary one. Then you can switch back an forth.
About $800 Canadian. So we get like 5-6 guys, turns out to about $150 per guy. Not bad since a regular track day has about 30-35 guys and costs about $75 per car.
Point your nose in when you initiate the drift, you're tracking too far outside, give the back end more angle... try feinting first (jerk the wheel left suddenly before going into a right turn)
Do you know how sideways I thought I was till I saw the video :) I know what you mean, the scandinavian flick. That was my first time actually drifting. Got more angle on later trackdays but no video. Can't wait for the next trackday.
ilovesilvia69. Let me see you try to drift. I'm only 14 and I'm already drifting a 300zx, 240sx, and s14 up in Seattle, Washington. I`ll be sure to put a video up soon :]
Nice drifting there bro! Nice work! How did you get the RWD conversion? Who did it and how much does it cost? Is it a lot of work? Can't you just put the center diff's on the console all the way to RWD instead of getting a full conversion?
Contrary to popular belief, you can't really put the STi to full RWD. What you have though is in effect an "open" center diff which allows the rear wheel to break loose independent of the front. But power will still go to the front wheels, which makes for a different type of drifting. I love the AWD in the car that is why I opted for a temporary conversion that I swap back and forth in winter. Its about $800 Canadian.
I see. What exactly is the conversion comprised of? What are they switching out? Also, how is performance with this conversion? Since all the power is put to the back now, is the 0-60 time exactly the same? How much differently does the car handle? I guess this takes away any understear huh? Sorry for the barrage of questions, just am very fascinated.
The center diff is replaced by a machined piece that rather than have gear teeth to drive both the front and rear, it just has teeth that drives the rear. The front axles and all stay in. 0-60 is compromised cos of traction. Understeer is gone :) but I did put a bigger swaybar in the back. Tricky to drift cos of the turbo lag.
sounds like a fucking piece of shit john deer tractor

its actually harder to drift with awd, the technique is really different from rwd, but yea STI's rule

for RWD all u do is pull the ebrake up 1 click and its full RWD on the 2005+ sti's LOL no " conversion " needed

for the rwd conversion switch, does it only equipped on the new sti or also the wrx and older sti?

It can work with older sti's and wrx's too.

do you mean by "temporary" you just disconnected front axles, or you have a VCD
