Whoever disliked this seriously doesn't know good music when they hear it. Sarah, you are an absolutely brilliant musician with a great voice. I wish you come to London, UK sometime because I would love to see you live.
Had the pleasure of talking to Sarah at the Winnipeg Folk Festival a few days ago, she's such an amazing talent, and the world needs more of her. She was so nice to talk to as well, I really hope the best for her.
Last night I listened to a local band with some very good musicians, who love the art, and have tremendous potential. They had electric guitars, with effects, and a p.a. system to help hide some imperfections. Sarah is just out there bare. What impresses me most are two things. She obviously can tear it up with tumeni notes if so desired....but, really values the places where she doesn't play. Being able to translate her heart and mind to music is such a precious gift. A major talent.
Does anyone know what tuning she's using??? I know it has to be dropped in the bass strings cuz it sounds way too low for having the capo at 7th fret...I'm thinking open G or something like it cuz I don't recognize normal chords [tho at times I thought I saw a D] thanks for your help! john
@Mouldytone. Yes! Sarah is a fine musician with great taste and talent and she's really fun to watch. She's georgeous too. So is Regina Spektor, one of the most excellent songwriters of this age. And some of the oldies are still pumping out exemplary music. Winwood, Waits, and Young come to mind. Now that would be an interesting band. Not csn&y but w,w and y. just kidding not likely. But Regina..
I was channel surfing when I heard her on ACL and couldn't believe my ears. She stopped me in my tracks and I watched the rest of her set. I never do that as IMO the vast majority of musicians on ACL aren't very good. This young woman is amazing. I am a bit of a music snob and I couldn't get her music out of my head. I bought her album the next day. This girls raw talent is a true gift from God.
@davidmor1000 same EXACT thing here. same show, probably the same night. I've been a musician for over 25 yrs, and have seen very few, if any musicians that have affected me like she has. I instantly was floored by her. she is head and shoulders above the rest.
i heard her for the first time last night on austin city limits. this cut is truly great rootsy americana, but these other cats collaborating with her on violin and cello/bass, combined with sarah's mandolin and guitar-playing virtuosity, OMG!!! if that's not
enough to create an instant fan, the complexity, dynamic, and sheer musicality of the group arrangements have me standing in my chair cheering.
With just voice (admittedly a stunning one) and a guitar for protection there`s no place to hide if the songs aren`t up to scratch. Sarah`s songs are well and truly up to scratch. I can`t think of another young artist who writes nearly so well as Sarah Jorosz. Lots of great young musicians out there but the written word is different. And what a gorgeous "less is more" bit of guitar playing. Thanks Sarah and thanks MusicFog (again!).
A great original composition by a top-notch singer-songwriter. Sarah Jarosz gives us hope for the future of REAL American music in the face of all the phony posers out there getting their 15 mins of fame on TV. Her debut album is a masterpiece.
This person is very very good. Joni Mitchell caliber...I don't give those away...

And yet we give all the money and awards to the Taylor Swifts and Britney Spears of the world?

This is just a beautiful song and at " almost 18 " she has written and performed a song most artists wouldn't get close to in a lifetime .

Not often at all (as a 51 year old working musician) do I realize I have found a new favorite artist that blows me away. It's a great day for me.
