I know there's more than one Scottish regional accent, but not having been there, I can't tell the difference, however, there is something about how Scottish women (maybe men, too, I just haven't noticed) speak that I find sexy. Something about the inflection. If that's the right word. :P
How can he say the Union of the crowns stopped bloodshed in the British Isles? Bishops War, War of the three kingdoms glorious revolution and Jacobite uprisings in 1715,19 and 45!
I have always been fascinated with Scotland and the people, love the accent and the mystic, wonderful scenery. I hope to go there next year, planning on it anyway.
I hate when they put documentaries on about being Scottish, it's always the same old posh tossers being interviewed laying on contrived fake thick 18th century Ayrshire accents! People in general fail to realise that there are a vast amount of different accents in Scotland; at times they can vary from town to town.
Is this series available to purchase anywhere? I searched at Amazon but couldn't find anything...I notice you can't find the rest of this show anywhere else on You Tube as well. Can anyone help me out?
I was wondering why all the presenters at the beginning were women. It's cool, but is Scotland all out of notable men now that Sean Connery and Ewan McGregor have moved away or what?
And he made out Rabbie Burns was a misogynist. Like a misogynist could write the greatest hymn to a woman's right to choose, like, ever. or Ae fond Kiss.
am well pissed off that english bloke had to present this why do they interfear with our country flippin hope we become independant like !!! the gaelic is dying cos the english dont want to learn it and are buy homes on the island.
And Englishman presented this because it's called "How to teach yourself to speak Scotish". It is a show explaining your rich heritage to people outside of Scotland so it's obvious that it would be an English person explaining otherwise some people might not be able to understand where the programme is coming from. Don't politcally rant over something so silly.
Actually, if he was doing every country in Britain then it's pretty obvious that there would be a continuing theme. Probably just Scottish English hatred again.
Kinda ignorant. Also we kinda benifit hugely from being not being independant so shoost and be happy we're taking them for all they're worth. Also in a 21st century world we should be working on trying to unite the world and realise we're all human.
hagsjda Scotland.. I've been there! uhm for like for 3 days...but..I'VE BEEN THERE ANYWAY. Omg.

The programme was actually called "Melvyn Bragg's Travels in Written Britain" and covered a different part of the UK in each episode.

Thank you for explaining my rich heritage to me.
wanna fuck my daughter now? Only three camels and a mountain sheep.
Plus you got to hope WW ain't watching, 'cos that could get ugly.
WW's big talent wasn't leading Scots into battle, you know. Show a bunch of Scottish lads where the battle is, they're in there no probs.
Afterwards, he got everyone to calm down, walk home and think again. Now that's genius.
