Actually, it DOESN'T fire at 3,000 rpm. You can select either 2,000 or 4,000 rpm as your rate of fire. Also, it is NOT the fastest firing gun in the world. There are many gatling guns which achieve a rate of 5000 rpm or more such as the M61 Vulcan, the GAU-8-A and the Russian GSh-6-30.

Unless you're talking about U238, which makes an excellent projectile but it's also radioactive, harmful enough to get banned in most countries.

Tungsten is an alternative for armor piercing rounds, although it has higher density therefore higher penetration power but it is less powerful because it doesn't get incinerated upon impact.

So technically there is an incendiary reaction going on with rounds containing phosphorus. But you are correct that is NOT the reason they go through the metal. They could be ice cold and still penetrate.

As it uses a electric motor and have large moving parts it is not very good for land and sea based uses. The design is not rugged enough, just throw a large chunk of mud can disable it. Thats why they mount these in enclosed vehicles like SUVs and gunships.

the gun you're referring to is the GAU-8 Avenger. they are both the same style of gun. however, the GAU-8 is a 30mm auto-cannon. this is a .30 caliber minigun. the GAU-8 is very similar but it is bigger and has 7 barrels instead of 6.
