  • This video is too funny! hung up the phone as soon as it rang, and the twisted hair a week and thought it was yesterday! XD Too Funny! I was wondering if I could ask a question, my locks are new and they won't stay twisted after moments of them being twisted and I have course thick hair (I'm a guy by the way) and I wanted to know how to get my hair to stay twisted and I used mango and lime Jamaican gel.

  • WATZ GUD WITCHU , U HAV SUM GUD TIPZ . DO U THINK I SHULD US3 MANGO N LIM3 TINGL3 SHAMPOO AN W3N CUSZ MY COMB COILZ R LIK 2 W33KSZ IN !

  • I want to do my own twist I Have tryed it witH a towel didnt work but wHen someone else used tHe towel to twist it worked learned it off youtube. wHen I did it witH my Hand and just adding pressure it worked for tHe sides but not for tHe top or back. I'm in barber scHool I just need to get it started

  • but how often should someone wash and retwist their hair when it is at comb coil length??

  • How long did you wait to wash ur hair when you first started with the comb coils and how often there after? Did your twist not unravel? I just started and I was told not to wash my hair until it locks. I started with the comb twist! Thanks!

  • wait like 4 weeks before the initial wash, then wash at least once a month after. the loctician i went to told me 2 wait a long time too...and i still regret that i listened. washing your hair is very good and healthy, and in fact will help it to lock quicker. if ur uneasy, you can place a stocking cap on your head and wash it that way. only a clarifying shampoo (dr bronners is best)...no conditioner. our hair loves water...and water is very nourishing for it...so don't deprive your hair!

  • that was me calling. get back to me when you're done making the video...

  • alright so i twisted my hair my own self and it seems pretty decent. and i used just regular gel and grease , is that bad ?

  • @laquan76667 i kno alot of ppl who do that an their locs r jus fine. but u can use organic lock & twist gel (its in a purple an white container) or jamaican mango & lime loc gel

  • i would stay away from the grease and stick to the gel...grease is a little heavy and might cause build up over time. use a squirt bottle to grease your scalp with olive oil or jojoba oil...or add a little to your gel.

  • she sexy

  • So cute... I have much to learn... this is my 2nd day into my loc journey and I'm so excited. Your hair mimics how I'd love for my locs to turn out. Thanks for the post sis!

  • oh congrats sis! it's a fun journey! take a look at my "everything locs" playlist...tons of loc videos. i learned everything i know about locs from yt!!

  • love yo hair check mi vides out subscribe ill return the faver

  • Thank u 4 the tips re shampooing cuz I am gonna shampoo mine n just a bit. Your locs look great girl.

  • no problem! thanks

  • Yep, that is the one I purchased from GNC. My little babies are doing ok for now (only been 6 days since I locked...LOL).

    Be blessed

  • great video & tips! your hair looks good. da phone parts were funny lol. oh & i have mango & lime it made my hair flakes a night later. my head was really itchy i dont recommend it

  • yeah, i stopped using mango n lime..it didn't flake as much when i mixed it with a little olive oil though. now i use pure 100% aloe vera mixed with a little olive oil, peppermint oil, and water...i put it in a spray bottle and use it to retwist. works great & no flaking at all...plus it makes retwisting quicker since i don't have to put product on each loc.

  • tayluve, thx for this mixture. i have all of these products to give this a try. i just locked august 1st, however, i will use this for a re-twist soon.

  • no problem...just make sure the aloe vera gel you use is the pure stuff...like the aloe vera gel from the organic shop gel you can actually drink as a dietary supplement. i use lily of the desert brand.

  • WOW girl...i started with the comb coils and my hair was short as well...i need some hangtyme for real it will be 2 months August 22, 2009....ugh! what a wonderful process...lol

  • just hang in there sis! enjoy the baby loc stage because it only happens once!

  • Hey thank you so much for the comment on my water rafting video...I'm so late. lol But you haven't put any videos up in a while....*sad face here* lol You know I was borderline perming my hair BUT now I'm contemplating locs....they're just SO permanent lol be blessed sis oh yeah & you know I'm subing!

  • you know you can always try loc extensions, to see how you'll like them!

  • how long do u leave the acv on b4 u put the coconut milk n?

  • not long...just long enough to apply it in your hair, squeeze it through your locs a little bit and rinse...it works almost instantly.

  • i have 148.....and i thought i had a lot of em!

  • lol!

  • u i so so so so so so so SEXY

  • you made this video on the day i turned 17 :-D lol

    but anyways

I want to start locs but I want to twist them on my own but i have only half a idea how to even start them

  • hey! check out my everything locs playlist...there's a vid or two about starting locs. after you check out the vids, let me know if you have any specific questions :-)

  • so... can I twist them dry because my hair is so kinky lol i rolled one dry and its started to um... "nap"? lol and it took me a good couple of minutes to get it out so... is twisting them dry a neccesity

  • i would recommend twisting your hair while wet/damp. you don't want to twist while dry because that places strain on the root/hair and can cause it to snap/break. you want to make sure your hair is wet w/water, gel or loc butter (whatever you're going to use to twist).

  • hi there! i watch this video for the many tips you offer, (thank you) but i have a question....are you using coconut oil or milk for your conditioning?

  • you're welcome! i used coconut milk to in place of conditioner. you can however use pure organic coconut oil mixed with pure aloe vera gel (edible kind) to retwist your locs.

  • Keep the videos coming, they are nice. Just started on mine, really the begining stages. One Love.

  • thanks...i wish you well in your loc journey!

  • very beautiful..................U R

  • lol thanks :)

  • Thanks sis.

    This vid is superb..

  • awe thanks!

  • hi,

    what was ur starting techinic?

  • hey, i started with comb coils/comb twists...they were 1/4"-1/2" long!

  • do you rinse with apple cider vingar after the wash? im gonna try that and the coconut oil.

    are you on facebook?

  • sure do! it's great for removing any type of build up. do 1/2 cup of acv to 1/2 cup water or do 1 cup to 1 cup if you have heavy build up. put it in a water bottle shake well and pour on your hair...rinse with water after. also add 2-5 drops of your fav essential oil to mask the acv smell. rosemary, peppermint, or tea tree are the most beneficial.

coconut oil is gr8 for locs!

yepper i'm on facebook...i don't use it too much tho...just use it to kit w/old high school and college friends:-)

  • Tay your hair is looking great!

  • thanks sis!

  • man i cant wait until y air gets like yours in the video im at three months and i think in this vid you got me by like a month

  • it will happen...just be patient!

  • Hi....I just started my journey and I'm still in Baby stage (7 1/2 weeks). But I get allot of dandruff and build up and have to get my hair washed and retwisted every two weeks due to build up and dandruff. Any natural remedies or suggestions? FYI 'You have a cute smile' ;)

  • i would suggest using a washcloth or q-tip dipped in a 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar with 1/2 cup of water....use this to wipe your scalp and in between your locs. then follow up by oiling your scalp with tea tree essential oil (15 drops) mixed with olive oil (2-4 ounces)...message the oil into your scalp after you apply.

also be careful of what shampoo you use...i would recommend an all natural like dr. bronners peppermint soap...non natural shampoo promotes dandruff...thanks brotha

  • Thanks! I tried Rosemary Tea, in which it got rid of the dandruff but it made my hair itch real bad, so that brought me back to square one. But I'll give your remedies a try then let you know how they turned out. Thanks again!

  • you're welcome!

  • How much does it cost to get Dreads?

  • it varies in cost...i paid like $65 for mines.

  • i know the dull look can get annoying, especially coming from that glossy permed hair. but i guarantee you it will be better in the long run for you to only retwist once a month. your locs will be thicker and stronger when they mature.

  • lol i just turned the ringer off! thanks sis...yours are looking nice too...you're doing a good job maintaining them!

  • BEWARE: of beexwax or any kind of wax 4 that matter, I just recently cut my dreads after 5 years because of the visible wax build-up that i couldnt get out, it was a sad day

  • you are so right about the wax. that's why i stay away from wax and shea butter. i'm actually using my own mix now of pure 100% aloe vera gel, olive oil, essential oil and water...i spray it on to retwist. perfect moisturized hold and as light as a feather!

  • TRUE,TRUE...wish i had of known about that aloe vera recipe 5 years ago ;( :)

  • dey lukin real nice but i would normally expect alot more growth out of 8 months. that really discouraged me. does your hair normally grow slow???

  • every one's hair grows at different rates. i would say mines grows a little faster than normal. when i first started my comb coils they were only about 1/4" long. once the hair locks though (mines has not locked yet) it tends to grow a whole lot faster. but you can't expect long swinging locs within a year...it's a process that takes time. so you have to be patient. focus on each stage of your loc journey and the health of your locs more so than the growth. long locs with come with time.

  • can dread loc from double strand twist

  • yep...you can start it from that, comb coils/twists, palm rolling, braids, three strand twist...pretty much anything.

  • can i used the jamaican mango lime firm wax...

  • i wouldn't use it...i'm just funny with wax products like that. i try to stick to products that are as natural as possible. actually jamaican mango n lime recently changed their formula for their gel...it's not all natural anymore. i stopped using it. now i'm using lily of the desert pure aloe vera gel, mixed with a little olive oil and rosemary essential oil. it's liquid & i actually put it in a spray bottle. b/c our hair is nappy/coarse, our hair will firmly hold from just the liquid.

  • Your locs are beautiful!

  • thanks brotha!

  • How did you manage 170 locs? Can everyone acomplish that same number? I don't even think my hair could hold 100. I have natural afro hair and I want to get locs in March.

  • i'll send you a message...yt is acting stupid!

  • This might be a dumb question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway. Do locs get bigger(width)over time? I ask because it seems like ppl start off w/ these little itty locs, then as they grow longer they get thicker. I also ask because right now I have natural afro hair and I want to get locs. I want mine just like yours! Thanx

  • I think the locs actually shrink a little. If you want them to be thick, start the partings thick...also you may have to combine your locs ti make them thicker.

  • My locks are all over the place. A few are deformed and cracked. Others are off doing their own thing. Its annoying but everyone tells me about how difficult the early stage can be. Mine are about the same length as yours but they look terrible lol. I cant afford to pay people $50-75 every 4 weeks just to put gel on them and stick me under a dryer. I'm trying to learn them to do them myself. It seems locks are a trend today, courtesy of Lil Wayne. Most dont even understand what they're about.

  • don't quit the loc journey! in this vid i just retwisted my locs a few days b4...but believe me...my locs do everything but lay down if i don't retwist...i haven't retwisted in like 6 weeks...some of my locs are coming apart and everything. but i don't stress it b/c i know it's part of the locking process. just take good care of your locs by spritzing them with water (better if mixed with a little olive oil and/or essential oil)...and using olive oil to oil your scalp every couple days...

  • ...be sure to massage oil in scalp.

don't worry about the appearance...just worry about the health of your locs (making sure they're clean and moisturized/scalp oiled. take a look at my everything locs playlist to see other loc vids. i learned how to do my own by watching vids of others. it's pretty easy to get professional results. i kno what you mean about lil wayne:(

let me know if you have any loc questions...i can give you tips on washing, retwisting, daily care & the whole nine.

  • I like your hair. I love women that do the natural look.

  • thanks!

  • Are you gonna do anymore videos anytime soon?

  • hopefully pretty soon...i'm in the process of relocating to brooklyn...and i have a TON of business to take care of!!! it's a lot that goes into relocating to a new city! i can't wait till it's all over

  • Thanks for all of your tips. I started my locs about 2 months ago. Yesterday, insted of going back to the shop, I washed and retwisted my hair myself for the first time. It came out pretty good! But the next time, I'll take your advice about the ACV rinse, and I'll probably add Olive oil or Aloe to the twist gel. Thanks again!

  • no problem sis! if you want more helpful vids you can check out my everything locs playlist:o)

  • your very very beutiful :) like an eygptian queen

  • lol thanks!

  • Yeah I've combined a lot of mine too. I originally started off with 155 dreads and now I only have 65 (thank goodness), because for one, I didn't want really skinny dreads, and 2, I didn't want to spend so long just re-twisting especially since I wash my hair so often because I'm an athlete, so having 65 dreads seems perfect for me.

Also, I think you should take one dread out and twist it around the one you want to join it to as loose hair to avoid those double heads. That's what I did.

  • i never thought of taking just one loc out to combine them! thanks for the tip...i'm going to have to do that! i just have 1 that i already combined, but i can just comb out the bottom part of it and twist it around the other loc. i'm not a big fan of the double head...but i was too lazy to comb out both the locs.

  • I know exactly what you mean because I was being lazy at the beginning too, but unless one likes double heads I wouldn't advice people to be lazy about it.

I also used to pick out the end of the dread I'm going to join and just twist it together to a near by dread like you said you did, but I found that combing out the WHOLE loc until its just loose hair and wrapping it around an existing loc makes them turn out WAY better; and in the end you can't even tell they were ever 2 seperate dreads!

  • thanks for the advice. whew...patience is a virtue!

  • Hi sis, your locs are beautiful. I cut minesoff after five years and now a year later i'm ready to loc again! I have tiny tiny twist right now. I'm concerned about over twisting being that it's a habit at this stage. i want to ask you how often do you think i should twist? i don't want to thin my hair/locks. what do u suggest. of course i'm not shampooing rt now but i do want to train my hair.

  • hey sis! thanks for the compliment! at your stage, i would recommend retwisting every 4-6 weeks. once your locs reach the teenage stage, i recommend retwisting every 3-4 weeks, just b/c they tend to try to marry at this stage often! also, make sure that you always retwist on wet hair...so if you're not shampooing, make sure to rinse or wet the hair with a spray bottle b4 retwisting. also, if you would like to shampoo after 4-6 weeks, you can wash with a stocking cap w/diluted shampoo.

  • or you can gently wash ur locs (focusing on cleaning your scalp) w/o a stocking cap using diluted shampoo. if you do this, make sure you rinse with a very light water flow so the water doesn't "comb" out your locs. if you don't feel comfortable washing your hair at all, you can dip a cotton swab or wash cloth in baking soda and water or acv and water and scrub your scalp...make sure you f/u with olive oil, sweet almond oil or some other light oil.

  • nice

  • tx!

  • Coconut oil is yahsome as well! Use it for your hair and skin....promise you'll luv it!!!

  • oh i know! and whip it with shea butter for the silkiest skin cream you've ever had!!! i'm going to get some more coconut oil soon and mix it with aloe vera for some nice retwisting gel.

  • your hair is pretty!!! where do u get coconut milk from because i never tried it as a conditioner before my locs are shoulder length.

  • thanks sis! i just bought the coconut milk from walmart...nothing fancy. but i would recommend buying the organic kind, or getting a coconut and cracking that sucker open yourself!

  • you are gorgeous, beauty like on another level type of ish

  • lol thanks brotha

  • coconut milk?!!! no way! OMG! I'm a coconut nut! I already have a million uses for coconut - pills, hair oil, skin out of the shower, rick, shrimp... and now conditioner?!!! thank you, thank you sister!

  • lol! you're welcome! i love your vids and your energy...you're so goofy lol!

  • Do you HAVE to began with short hair to start Locs? Because I have fairly long hair, and I'm trying to loc from this lenth (comb twist). Does short work out better than long??

  • no..sure don't! short hair may loc a little faster...but it's no reason to cut your hair off. what i would recommend is maybe trying two strand twists, three strand twists or braids...i do know that these locing methods work better with longer hair than comb coils/single strand twists. check out my everything locs blog for helpful vids. also...najahface has a helpful vid on starting locs...it's called Starter Loc Techniques 9-29-07...let me know if you have any questions sis!

  • THANK YOU!! I will go to your tutorials and the other you-tuber that you recommended. You seem very sweet and sincere. Good luck with your locks...they are beautiful thus far, and may God bless you in everything you aspire to do. :-)

  • awe...thanks sis!

  • Such a pretty girl...

  • awe thanks sis!

  • I just did the BIG CHOP Saturday and started my locs. I'm not crazy about how short it is right now, but as it grows, I 'll be taking progressive pics. How long have you been growing yours? Thanks for the tips and inspiration....peace

  • thanks for watching! i encourage you to take at least 1 starter loc pic. i did the big chop and started locs at the same time too...my comb coils were about 1/4" or 1/2" long. my only regret is that i didn't take an early pic of what they first looked like...because i too was a little shocked by the short length. my locs will be 10 months old the 25th.

  • Thanks for the advice. I actually like watching transition and progressive pics of fake to natural beauty...lol

  • Locs lookin good girl!

  • thanks girlie!!!

  • That's so funny. I just tried a vinegar rinse myself...but it was a different, vinegar. My hairs pretty much build up free, so I didn't see much of difference. I try it later. Your hairs lookin' good!

  • thanks! what kind of vinegar did you use?

  • Rice vinegar. Lol!

  • good info...didn't know about conditioning with the coconut milk. will have to try that.

  • i've never used conditioner before, so i'll be doing that in the next retwist or 2 to make a comparision to the coconut milk.

  • I didn't know you were making videos! I'm so late :-( Thanks for the tips, I made my cousin watch this video, b/c she wasn't trying to hear me, now she's more inclined to listen :-D

  • lol yes i finally decided to jump on the band wagon:-) i'll try to make more loc vids soon

  • hey tayluve i was wondering where do u get this appleside and vinegar rinse because ive gotten some build up and im guessing im not washing it good enough.any sugguestions?

  • you can get the apple cider vinegar at any grocery store, super walmart, or maybe drug store also...it's used for food...it may be in the cooking oil or baking aisle. use 1 cup acv, 1 cup water, and 4-5 drops of tea tree, or peppermint, or rosemary essential oil (optional). the essential oils can be found at organic or natural food stores, or ordered online. pour them into a water bottle (like poland spring bottle) and shake well. follow up with a prolonged rinse (instructions on my vid)...

  • what do you use to retwist? if ur having problems w/build up, my suggestions are absolutely no beeswax or loc butters. try jamaican mango n lime locing gel mixed with a little olive oil(don't over saturate loc)...or buy some pure aloe vera gel (lily of the desert kind..at organic stores) and mix with a little organic unrefined coconut oil (organic store) or olive oil or sweet almond oil or jojoba oil...this will create a light moisturizing conditioning gel and shouldn't cause build up.

  • oh, another thing with the acv rinse, as you pour the water bottle over your head, massage your hair and scalp and squeeze your locs to work any build up out...it might tingle/semi-burn because it's strong...but your hair should be free of all build up afterwards. i do this once a month to every 6 weeks (wouldn't recommend doing more often because it can dry your locs out)...except i now use only 2-3 drops of essential oil, and only 1/2 cup of acv and 1/2 cup water

  • Very Informative video, but do you have any advice for African American women with fine hair?...I attempted to re twist my own hair using mango and Lime products, and it doesn't look as neat as it would look when I get it done at the salon..I also have frizzy hair after 3 days of just getting it re twisted...thanks-)

  • did you use the locing gel and sit under a dryer (or bonet dryer) until dry? how do you clip as you retwist...do you tightly (but not to stress hair out) pull hair back into the clip(3 or more locs per clip) as you retwist? do you sleep in a satin or silk scarf/bonnet? if you've tried these, i would recommend looking into latching. i have some latching vids in my everything loc playlist...from msbutterfly and others.

but some frizzing is naturally going to occur...pretty much till you lock.

  • i also recommend studying some of the retwisting vids in my playlist...particularly with shoter locs or hair that's not locked yet(ex: alonnakyle)...i watched the different retwist vids and mimicked them.

and i recommend retwisting the whole loc...that's what my old loctician always did.

what you can also do is go to the loctician one last time, buy what they use (if available for sale)...and watch her (if mirror available) and study her retwist process...then do what she does.

  • Enjoyed the video. Your hair is coming along really nice...keep up the good work :) Im hoping to start my journey REAL soon!

  • thanks!

  • DID I forget to tell you your hair looks Great... Oh yeah I did ...well i think I should say it again. Great vid!

  • i forgot to say interlocing with a tool u already know that anyway lol!!talk to u soon!!

  • Coming right along Tay...looks good!

  • thanks girl! just trying to be patient:-)

  • Hi Tayluve,

Locs are looking good sistah.(smile) Information was on point. Seems like the instructions are totally different with the sisterlocks. I was instructed not to put any oils, creams, butter in or on my hair or scalp. NADA !!! I must say my scalp is fine( I massage my scalp and the naturals oils come to the top).My hair is clean and free of any build ups.Well your locs are doing very nicely so that seems to be working for you.

  • thanks! i've heard that with sl's...but once they lock i think you can do a little more. have you looked into warm spirits products that videoprofits speaks about?...she's a loctician and she has sl's (beautiful ones by the way!).

your sl's are coming along great!!!

  • Your locs fit you very very well..You are a gorgeous woman..

  • tx!

  • thanks! i'm amazed by the growth myself:-) and i'm still retwisting the whole loc like u said!

  • Yo hair looking good!

  • thanks diva!!!

  • your hair has come a hell of a long way in such a short period of time. good luck looking GREAT! A Rasta Lady once told me not to count your loc's its really bad luck.

  • thanks! i know...that's what galaxyswurl told me...and i just had to be rebellious! lol

  • you go girl you look beautiful, your hair is look great i love your video more more more.

    Yeah!.........

  • thanks girl!

  • Thanks for the olive oil tip! Love the locs!

    Peace and Love

  • thanks!!! i'm glad you decided to keep your loc vid up:o)

  • You and your hair are beautiful. Stay encouraged, sis.

  • thanks sis!!! i look forward to seeing a vid from you!

  • Your hair looks soo beautiful!! It is growing fast. I wish I had the courage to re-twist my hair myself at home but don't know if I'm ready for that yet. Thanks so much for the tips, I will be using them!

  • thanks! i was the same way at first...but it's really not hard at all!!! and it's really easy to do yourself and get perfect results...just like at the loctician! girl save your money! look at some of the retwist vids that i have in my everything locs playlist...they helped me and gave me the courage to do it myself...and ask tons of questions! i don't mind answering them!!! i did my own after 3 or 4 months...and my hair was no where near loc'd (b/c i waited so long between retwists).

  • Bill collector? lol. You hung up on someone. lol.

  • lol! a family member was calling...i didn't hang up on them! i just turned the ringer off:-)

  • Oh okay. LoL...

  • UGH!!! you're making me miss my locs...lol I miss my locs at times and i think my hair does too because i notice when i do twist styles i can't keep them long or my hair tangles up within and when I'm rinsing out i have to detangle. but anyway your locs are looking fierce gurl! great video info.

  • thanks! you can always get them again!!! your locs were the business! :o)

  • u seriously kinda made me miss my locs when they were that length: yours look great. its really a beautiful stage, i'm glad you are enjoying it, you must be getting lots of compliments? now i have to look for old photos and try and put them together. have a great weekend..

  • oooouu...i wanna see a slide show!!! i do get a lot of compliments...suprisingly from older conserative white women! who knew they would appreciate the nappyness!!! lol!

  • Gr8 vid...very informative...excellent tips. Your hair looks soooo good! Keep the vids coming! :O)

  • thanks!!! i'll try:-)
