For the record, Obama never said he would end the war in Afghanistan. Today he declared US combat operations would be over in August 2010. He was not on a flight deck when he said this. Nor was there a banner hanging behind him declaring any sort of victory. It is completely irresponsible to suggest that pulling all troops from Iraq immediately is a good idea. Kill them all and let god sort them out is that mentality. I have a great deal of respect for this administration taking responsibility.

BTW, the mission in Afghanistan is complicated. Its not just a war, in fact, that part is minimal. People seem to forget this is where bin Laden trained and operated. If we just boned out, it would be as if we never left, and al qaeda operations would continue as normal. Dude hasn't been captured, his homies are still conspiring. I don't get it. I am a true blue lib and I still know that it is a bad idea to leave Afghanistan until we have won the hearts and mind. Silly, I know, but very true!

I hear you on that 50k troops left behind is hardly a full withdrawal, but I still think its the responsible thing to do. I also think its funny when liberals (and i consider myself one) say we should have a full withdrawal from Afghanistan. First off, we have NATO support there because that is where the people who killed Americans are still hiding. Are we supposed to leave there too, and allow al Qaeda to regroup and attack again? Please explain why leaving that region is a good idea.
