This bat was not Rabid! It was a very cold day. The scene you are watching has been slowed down massively in post. The reaction you see was it briefly opening its mouth making noise. The bat crawled across the porch floor then climbed up the brick of my home and flew away. I really don't believe it was sick.

Actually, that is a very normal reaction. They don't want to be bothered through the day/when sleeping, so when you DO bother one, they will either fly off or display in an attempt to scare you off.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but bats do not 'warm up.' There is a strong chance that the bat has rabies. How long was it on your porch, and what time of the day was it?

Here is some background on the bat.

It was a cold day. The bat was resting on my front porch floor trying to sun himself to warm up.When I went outside to photograph it really didn't react. I nudged it with a towel and this caused the reaction of the mouth opening. The shot has been slowed down in edit to sustain the mouth reaction. After the filming the bat crawled along the floor and climbed the brick on the side of my house. The bat was NOT harmed and there was nothing "ill" about the bat.
