Who knows if the the guy, whose voice we hear here, is gay or not, but one thing is for certain, it sounds nasal and cartoon-like, and is extremely funny! The guy sounds like a cartoon character and this is obviously not the voice ABC used. But I have to admit, this "new" voiceover cracked me up!!! Two thumbs up!
Thats complete horseshit,,,this voice-over was done by a clown who edited out Ernie Anderson (Ghoulardi). Anderson did all the voice-overs for ABC and its affiliates during the 1970's Next to John Facenda who did all the voice-overs for the NFL reel highlights, Anderson was the single most sought after Baritone in the business
Regardless ones beings straight or gay or bi or tri or whatever every SINGLE one of us who looked at this clip basically for the same reason this takes us back to a HAPPY place or a Pivotal moment in life that we will often remember sometimes wish would forget. Peace
This opener is NOT gay!! In fact the 'Star Marquee' has grown on me lately. BTW U know what would make it MORE interesting is toward the end I'd like 2 pretend that the letters are coming @ U slowly. I wish it would actually do that, just like the 1982 opening coming @ U faster! LOL!
For a brief while, "Droopy Dog" provided the opening voice-over work for the much missed "sat night movie" showcase of the 1970's & 80's ...here then, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a quite good example of this superstars magnificent narative ability.
who is this guy that dubs this? he's done soo much and i love it! LMFAO! still, i wonder (guess i'll have to wiki and run to the IMDB mobile!!! find out who was the original voice over)
@obsgia Gee, I don't remember fighting being allowed on YouTube. Both of you stop! Oh wait....this was 2 years ago. You both probably got other things to do! Have fun!
@djrage70 LOL... WOW.. i haven't heard that music since this last ran.. but i so remember it.. by this point.. ABC had the James Bond movies so we were always watching .. even if we turned away this intro would always come on.. so that was ONLY on for a YEAR!!! Also.. wouldn't it be soon after it that ABC got that HYPERMACHO sounding guy who would intro ... the LOOOOOOOOOVE BOAT!
I was in 6th grade in 75-76 :D A year or 3 later, they did away with the Saturday night movie and replaced it with Love Boat and Fantasy Island. The last Saturday Night movie Iremember watching was Wonder Woman staring Cathy Lee Crosby. Probably not the last one they had tho, being that the movie was on in 74 or 75.
Does anyone have the ABC Tuesday Night At The Movies from like 1972? It sounds like a song from Bread I think from what I remember. It sounds like the part where he sings "Dreams are for those who sleep; life is for us to keep, I may be (something) on rainbows, but baby here goes..."
@cheapcape Out of all the other similar comments on here you have to comment twice over one little comment left over a year ago and you say I'm obsessed with it? Why are you singling me out. Go stir up the pot with someone else.
'Bobsgia''s voice-over is close enough for this version of the title, but I doubt if there were any "world television premieres" of recent theatrical films on Saturdays that season, as the network saved those for Sundays.
Usually on Saturday nights, ABC would air mostly theatrical released films and often have original movies on Sundays, Mondays (after football), and Fridays along with theatrical releases. It only last a year because of low ratings.
Now there is someone who knows talent or at least to have fun. I love the old school movie open though. Too bad they don't do that today. TV is not what is use to be. Have you heard of Retro Television Network RTN?
You are so right!! TV Land is dying a slow death; therefore, I would not be surprised if they go bye-bye in the next seven years. I would rather watch a "Gunsmoke" episode over "Hot In Cleveland" on television. Good Day!!
At least you are honest and I respect that, but I'm so tired of people trying to put me down. I'm just trying to have some fun. I may not be the best branch on the tree, but I'm still in the house.
I never really watched the ABC Saturday Night Movie because I was only one year old when it debuted for a single season. My most fond memories is watching the ABC Sunday, Monday, and Friday night movies as a kid because they had the best movies. When ABC had a down week, I will turn to CBS.
Do you have information on who created these graphics for ABC? I know the older school stuff from the movie of the week were done by Douglas Trumbull - but I'm interested in the history of these graphics. Thanks!
Billy Ingram designed the Star Marquee Theme for ABC in 1975 in which the words are made of stars using the same presentations sequences as ABC Movie of the Week such as the words either coming towards and away from the screen. Then finally, the entire movie ident appears in a movie marquee that you see in theaters during the 1970s and 1980s. Ingram wanted ABC to become America's marquee theater. It worked.
Excellent Voiceover!! The following clip from the 1975-1976 Television Season for "The ABC Saturday Night Movie" was done quite well. A Fabulous 6!! In that era, WTHR Television in Indianapolis, Indiana was part of the ABC Television Network. They should have been maintaining that affiliation until after the 1981-1982 Television Season.
WTHR Television -- Channel 13 in Indianapolis, Indiana -- has been part of the NBC Television Network since June 23, 1980. They have maintained their association with the NBC Television Network retroactive to January 1, 1981. I hope that will answer your question. Good Luck To You!!!
Wow where did you get this any way? I've never heard the music at the end of the intro. It usually cut away to the movie trailer before that..

Can you re-upload this in it's original form as I remember it....without the gay, weak intro!? Thanks.
