  • Honestly, that was fast riding, but all that time spent in the oncoming lane passing slower blokes was more chancy than I prefer with the volume of traffic. Hard to justify triple digit speed on that busy a roadway. 7:00am on Sunday morning it might have been OK

  • Wonderful!

  • Great planning ahead, no risks in my opinion, holding back when needed, great lines and great throttle control, I've been an instructor for 26 years, it's not very often I'm this impressed, well done!

  • Nice ride and good to see you passing all those sports bikes on a big beast!

  • superb and brings back memories of riding my bikes at IOM cheers

  • Fantastic! You feel like you're along for the ride!

  • Sold my GS - heavy, underpowered, not as reliable as BMW brand fame might suggest, thirsty, vibey, expensive to buy, expensive to service..... I can't wait to get another one! Loved the vid, by the way :)

  • amazing riding fungusgs, would of been good if you had let the camera run on a little longer so we could laugh at all the sportsbikes you obliterated as they go past :) 5/5

  • You could say you were the fastest man on the island that day :-)

  • I love the sports bike rider getting fed up and letting you past! On a great big touring bike too!

  • azz che manico!

  • No consideration for other road users, ie, oncoming traffic.....

  • @schwantz037 It shows the difference between a biker and someone who rides a bike, you're presumably the later going by your comment. No oncoming traffic was inconvenienced, that I saw. Observation was brilliant, the most obvious bit which shows this was passing the bike and van coming out of a sharp right hander @ roughly 9 minutes. This guy had looked down the road, was out and passing before the other bike had even looked!

  • Give the man a works bike! Be interesting to see your time ,do you live on the IOM by any chance? John

  • Clearly this is like 2 years old atleast. They have made the mountain one way now during TT, which I think is much better.

  • Recorded in 2004 & uploaded around 4yrs ago. Check out my other vid from 2007 where it became one way. I agree that it's much better now.

  • thankyou for the show, you and your gs1150 are number one.

  • Well ridden!

    Smooth and controlled

As a TDM rider, I find it satisfying to see how well most modern bikes will respond on the open road, if they are sypathetically ridden. No need for 150bph and race cans.

All the best and hope you enjoy TT 2010

    Pete

  • congtrats to your riding! now those stupid EU bureaucrats can see that limiting the engine performance to 100 horsepower has nothing to do with the actual speed the rider choses to ride at. those inline fours could leave a boxer in the dust on the straights when their riders could and dared to ride as good and as fast as you have _CHOOSEN_ to do. this is so typical stupid lawnmover-thinking: regardless of weight-performance ratio, torque, anything, they want to cut performance without thinking.

  • some size of nachoos

  • Gulp.

  • Good work fella!

    Nuff said!

  • I had one of these bikes, many of my friends with Japanes superbikes were amazed how well th GS performed. On corners it was the best.

A nice piece of riding ther on the Island, I suspect that you know the road pretty well, but equally important, you know how to ride. Well done

  • And I thought Beemers were slow LOL !

  • God that bike sounds so sweet while engine breaking...

  • id say thats a scary place to drive, in a car lol

  • woow!

  • i have a 1100 gs, i feel small.....

  • Wow!

Thanks for letting us listen to the engine and not some cheesy music.

  • That's some great riding mate, nice one

  • Haha,, GS! Great! :o)

  • the guy in front seems to do alot of exagerationg with his motions...the 1150 was right up there with him...lol.

  • Legendary. Superb.

  • I bet you even can't afford a GS! 

  • 2 slow i could peddle faster on my bike.

  • i can spell pedal :)... and destroy your bicycle!

  • At low speeds your GS sounds just like mine.....notchy gearbox and diesel like qualities.

  • Love you work, keep it up.

    Be safe.

  • lots of riders O_O

  • Hey, you passed 22222 on the odometer

  • Going through Guthries at 3.39 is a very silly thing to do.

  • I tried to get there sooner, but traffic was a bitch...! ;-)

Seriously though, the camera's view is very different from what I could see &, if you check carefully, you can see that I'm scanning across the corner from 2-300yds before I get there. You can see over the hut & the entire length of the short straight is clearly visible from my viewpoint.

It's nice of you to be concerned, though, so thanks.

  • In contrast at 2:35 he takes a nice wide line to get the view, unlike the guy infront who cuts the corner completely.

Nice riding imo. And always nice to see a Beemer going past a load of sports bikes ..:)

  • I have 2001 GS and 2008 K1200S. I can't belive you can ride GS like it is 1200S. You are unbelivable. I loved you leaving those sports bikes in the dust. I'm going to visit Dragontale this year (American Isle of Man TT) and I wish I could ride my GS as good as you. Maybe I can. We'll see.

  • Your a better rider than I. But like the 4 minute mile, I know know it can be done! heh heh! Gota love that GS! What year is your bike? I looks like a 2002. I have a 2003 and it has a higher windscreen. Sweet riding. Made my heart pound!

  • Cheers, the bike's a 2000 model with Adv tank & alloy wheels with sports tyres fitted.

  • nearly bought an f650gs but although the handling was great it just wasn't fast enough so i got an SV, on my 2nd one now and this does an indicated 147mph, handles amazingly and stunts well too

  • i really wanna go to TT in 2011, does anyone know when it is?

  • May 28th to June 10th

  • Watching you ride like this gives me the shits. On a public road, at one point, wrong side, heading into an uphill blind corner. giving it the berries.

See so many head ons and fail videos that start that way. Sucks for the dude coming the other way.

  • other than us, who can only watch the video from that angle i guess he could look over the hedge/fence in a situation that i noticed ... therefore he could see the ther side and knew it was safe ... or lets say "okay" ^^

  • Great stuff! I was laughing out loud when you hurtled past those supersports bikes at about 6 minutes.

  • I'm in awe!

You can certainly ride that bike!

  • made... "me-so-hooooooowney"

    lovely landscape asswell... :)

  • Dude. Wow. This is ridiculous. I almost didn't believe that this was a GS. Maybe I'll try this on my 1150GSA next time I'm out that way...

  • thinking of buying a GS and thought I would do a search on you tube, when i saw this first video, i thought this is going to be boring, this guys riding is questionable at the start, but wow, edge of seat stuff from the first minute then, wow bow to the GS

  • Great riding and an excellent video, I love it. GS rules

  • Got to love it!! the Boxer "dirt bike" passes even the screaming inline 4"s..WOOHOO...even out did a Ducati

  • very nice, you've done that before.

  • If I'd started to ride bikes when I was younger, I might have got into racing. Now, I'm a 43yr old bank manager, I don't find sportsbikes fit me & it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow... The GS suits my riding for the rest of the year, too :-)

  • You're a real good driver, so why don't u do the racing on a racing bike? :)

  • great rideing great vid 4*

  • Thanks for the kind words. I've been riding since 1988 & have never raced in my life. If you think the 1200 is a big beast, you'll think again after trying an 1150. The mods I've made to mine make it just as quick as a 1200, but the top end is a bit down... I've never found it to be a problem, though ;-)

  • Awesome vid. Beautiful lines and great riding by the GS pilot. How long have you been riding and racing? I would love to pick up a GS. I have an interest in adv riding. I rode an R1200GS a few times and absolutely love it. It's a big beast but handles well off road and on-road it takes a lot of people by surprise with its performance.

  • That video was awesome

  • Is it legal to drive like that on Isle of Man?

  • Absolutely...!!

The Manx people keep voting to retain the fact that they have unlimited speeds allowed on certain sections of tarmac. They even make this stretch one-way at certain times, like for the TT Fortnight. Now, when they've gone to all that effort, it seems rude not to make proper use of it... ;-)

  • I think the Manx police would take a pretty dim view of riding at 50mph in a 30mph zone, where there are likely to be pedestrians and children about. Enjoy the mountain, but riding like that in town is putting lives at risk.

  • The bike will hit the rev limiter in 5th gear & that gives about 130mph. I've fitted a lower geared final drive in the last 12mths (from an R1100S) to make the gear changes less frantic & it's worked a treat. Longer in each gear with no discernable drop in acceleration. In fact a mate reckoned it was much quicker this year as there was less gear changing required... :-)

  • can't you bypass the limiter?

  • I don't really see the point in pushing the engine to that degree. I see the rev limiter like good oil, as engine protection...

  • 7000rpm.how fast was that?

  • Nicely ridden mate.

Do you still have the 1150 and are you going next year?

I run an r1200s (couple of vids on here and an 1150 adventure.Bloody love the thing. Would be god to meet up and do some filming.

  • Yeah, still got it - I've been riding a GS of one sort or another sincce 1993.

TT time is a bit "full-on" with riding on & off-road, so filming can be hit & miss depending on weather, racing, marshalling duties, etc... It's not what I go for & it just depends on whether I get a spare hour or two :-)

    Have a good'un

  • "Is this a tuned 1150GS?... :) "

Yes, but only moderately. No engine work, just breathing/fueling mods...

  • This is a fantastic video. Great ride. Awesome skills. Is this a tuned 1150GS?... :)

  • Young Hooligan!

These Peugot Speedfights are quite nippy...

Just wait till I tell his parents what he's been up to...

    Thrashing the bollox off it!!!

  • The twat on the sports bike can't ride worth a fuck. The torque and engine braking on the GS are awesome and can push any sports bike to the limit when ridden by someone who's used to the GS's handling, which you obviously are. Good vid.

  • I have pointed out previously, that the camcorder I used to record the video, belonged to the guy on the sportsbike... He was given a lot of grief over his riding, when we played it at the hotel that night, but he's turned into quite a good club racer. He has a sponsored ride & gets to go winter testing in Spain (Lucky Git...) :-)

  • WOW ~~~ 120 mph and reving at 8500 rpm...

You de' man !!! De' Rocket Man...

    Jim

  • Wicked man!

Would love to see what you can do on a R1200S!

  • wicked man!

I would really like to see what u can do on this road on a R1200S!!...

  • I'm italian,i have got 13 years old anda i love motorbikes.i love this video.my english is not very good...my dad had a r 1150 gs normal,but now he had a r 1200 gs.he want buy a r 1150 gs adv...you drive very very very very good!(sorry for my english).at the start,

you race with a motorbikes(maybe r1)it's really or it was programate(sorry the english)??and the r 1150 is adv??bye and thank's for this video.

  • The R1150 is a GS with Adv tank & screen, alloy wheels & sportsbike tyres.

Glad you liked it - take a look at the other video I filmed in 2006. :-)

PS: Your English is a lot better than my Italian...

  • Desde Alicante, España:

Una pasada la conducción del piloto y por supuesto, la moto, genial!!!

No hace falta decir que yo tengo una igual...UN LUJO DE MAQUINA!!!

    R1150-GS Adventure.

  • your crazy balls of steele

  • awesome video - you can tell when the adrenaline starts pumping cant ya? what speed is that up the hill there?

  • You keeping it in 5 or going into E ?

  • In this one, I only ever get up to 5th gear... I've recently changed the final drive for a taller ratio one from an R1100S, to extend 5th gear further, as 5th-6th is too big a gap for this kind of riding.

  • Hmm, might looks into doing that myself! I've got 17" cast wheels on mine and like to hoon about a bit :-)

  • Nice ride.

  • he didnt even seem like the beemer was trying that hard to keep up with the CBR 4

  • the guy on the sports bike rides like a big girl he should be embarased

  • Fair comment, but he's a decent club racer, these days. Last Feb, he was testing in Spain...

  • This just proves that a powerful sportbike with a less experienced rider will be shown the door by a GS. Great riding!

  • not bad, good lines.

  • not bad

  • What tyres were you running out of interest?

  • BT010's - 120/70-17 front & 160/60-18 rear, with the corrected speedo drive.

  • me and my mate watched this vid and we really do think that all things considered it was a fantastic ride and enthrolling veiwing but just lacked the balls to go all out and push the bike to lower limits.we recomed that he watches john McGuinness do his famous 130mph last year 2007 god bless

  • RESPECT!!!

I'm definatly ditching my sportsbike now :-)

    great vid!!

  • Smooth ride. Great vid.

  • The windshield must work well because the rider apperas to have a dirtbike style sun visor on his helmet

I like the way he cleans up the bikes from Kates to Creg

  • Nothing better ran a well ridden big traillie, showing sportsbikes whats what...!!!

  • The bike who drives fore him, have a awesome sound

  • R1150gs....the BEST allrounder

  • I liked how the dude on the sport bike passes you when you're near the town... then wave you on when the road opens up...

  • very, very bad lines.

  • by who?

  • smooth and fast, not like the muppets he went past

  • BOXER CITY!

  • Ive got a hayabusa at the moment, but thinking of changing for a gs, I want one even more now

  • I can't understand why everyone laughs because he went past a sportbike. It was a CBR400 for crying out loud, and the beamer has more power than him. And we can also see that the sportbikerider ain't very experienced.

Who's laughing now ? Wow he outpowered a 400cc bike lol

  • Have you counted how many sportsbikes he passes? 20. And how many bikes pass him? 1. I'm sure all the bikes he passes arent CBR400's. The r1150gs is a brilliant bike in the twisty stuff, and can hold its own with most sports bikes. When the road opens up to straights its a different story though.....

  • nice vid - reckon that bike getting past you got the blood up :) Is the IOM busy with bikes most of the year?

  • IOM isn't very busy at other times of year, but the volume of bikes at TT & MGP time makes it a special place to be, on one.

  • A adept performance from the "Ride smarter, not harder" school. Still the tach is very buried for a good deal of the run. It is nice to see what a excellent rider can do with a machine that is not held up as the paragon of speed.

  • Yeah right! Absolutely great! Seeing that makes me wanna jump on my GS asap!

  • Superb riding, Loved your film. Thank you for posting

  • It just goes to show all bikes are sport bikes!

  • I think the other posters said it. Good riding style and positioning beat lunacy every time. Great to watch.

  • Nice ride enjoyed watching it

  • its a very great ride on a great bike !

  • Lovely road positioning and lines.

A good example of how smooth and precise = quick and safe. Excellent.

  • Wow... amazing ride on an amazing bike! i would love to do that on my CT110, the second best bike in the world behind the R1150gs (it will be mine one day). ride safe all

  • bet he suprised a few people on his boxer left quite a few jap bikes behind ,steve uk.

  • Alsome riding dude

  • he has got to be old bill!! smooth & quick though!

  • Nice vid quality fast riding sweet...

was there this year again and fall in love every time..

  • Good positioning on the road. A level headed rider with experience and a good blend of speed and vision. If more bikers rode like this they'd not have such a bad rep'

  • Nice and smooth. Nice to see the clouds over the mountain again.

  • It's Ghost Rider on a bmw ?????

  • nice ride. me thinks police motorcylist?

  • Where was all the Jap crap?

  • spot on

  • can people stop criticizing the rider who shot this? there's a time and a place for everything, and fungusgs rode a bmw appropriately quickly around the TT course. i liked the bit where a ducati got passed.

  • Great riding, great scenary, great video!

  • Bravo! much respect Bro.

    Great vid

  • Very steady bike!! good video

  • Nice and smooth ,good ride and rider, shows you can be fast, even with out all the H.P ,enjoyable

  • I guess that the rider probably uses a similar make motorcycle in his day job?? Just look at his road positioning to get the best view, and the way he avoids passing other bikes when there is opposing tarffic. A good ride!

  • Great ride. Amazed to see so many fast riders shafted.

  • Sorry to upset you guy, but this road was not closed. There is visually 2 way traffic on the ramsey - douglas road. If it was closed, it would of been the 'mad sunday' run, where as you leave ramsey you would go into a cone'd are to reduce the traffic flow at the ramsey hairpin. Then as you get to the top of the mountain, again a cone'd for crossing the tramlines. Your free again till douglas. The bike in front is CBR400, you would expect the R1150GS to out perform.

  • Whew, very nice.

  • brilliant, seeing the sportbike wannabees being defeated by a gelandewagen LOL

  • nice one,very smooth i wasn't scared for a second ;-)

  • What is your thoughts on the mountain being one way durring the TT festaval?

Nice smooth ride bike is a good un but think it is more down to knowing the roads, did have moments like overtaking an overtaking bike would not have liked to have been coming the other way.

  • One-way system was fantastic, but took a bit of getting used to... after years of going around but keeping to the left, having the other side available on the exit to left-handers was a real bonus. Some rders still ran out of road, though ;-)

  • Yes the mountain road was open - closed - open closed etc Same that in the Senior the death toll rose up until then there was only one, last race added another 3 to that total :-(

  • Oh, I love you! Brilliant!!!!

  • RESPECTS. Nice to see a BM gs kicking the sh*t out of sports bikes. Most of these guys don't realise valentino rossi is champion even though his bike is slower because bikes are not like cars. They take serious skill+balls.

  • Great Ride. I'd be interested to know what tyres that was done on?

  • BT020's on alloys from an R1100RT...

  • This is a awesome ride. Totally impressed. Going there next year!

  • Nice one mate. I fuggin love the GS range

  • i got so excited a little bit of wee wee came out!...woof!...xxx take me for a run round please, you know how to ride!...woof!...xxx

  • la madre que lo pario al tio... ....

  • Superb ride - Very smooth

  • Theres nothing like carving up sports bikes on a 250kg dirt bike.......

  • That's just fantastic. Am loving the bit when the sports bike cedes to the patient but superior rider behind. Nice one.

  • You take chances. There were times when I thought the m/c riders you were sharing lanes with could not predict your actions. That said, you clearly have some serious skills. There is no way I could follow you on a faster bike.

  • Good to see droopy twin being driven proper like.

  • An awesome ride on the world's greatest bike (the same bike I have!). Proof that not all BMW riders are in the pipe and slippers brigade!

  • Quite impressive, would like toee what you could do on a proper bike.

  • Ya cheeky bugga ;-)

  • omfg 15 days till TT!!.. Nice riding. I've just passed my CBT today, might see you out there! haha :P

  • you asshole, i live there, save that shit for mad sunday

  • Hmmm... According to your profile, your a 17yr old Egyptian...

I'll be there on Mad Sunday, so come & say "Hi". I'll watch out for a young swarthy gentleman :-)

  • nah, im manx but live in egypt, i cant make it this year though which is a shame.

  • you asshole, i live there, save that kind of shit for mad sunday

  • Great ride :)

Any advice on my first bike? Thinking about a Yamaha TZR 125

  • Brilliant ride, you obviously have a lot of experience and this shows in the vid. Nice to see a GS taking on the Island as opposed to all the GSX-R and CBR600RR videos that we see- all noise and bluster.

Happy continued riding, and if I see a R1150GS streaking past me at TT '06 I recon it'll be yourself.

  • Two words.................. Police Rider?

  • Good safe ride - ignore the mupppets.

  • atuffcrf450 aint know bugger all, perhaps it would be funny if he broke his neck while falling down the stairs, there are no speed limits on parts of the isle of man so he aint speeding. by the way awsome vid. wish i'd dare ride a bmw as fast as that.

  • it would of been funny if you crashed while breaking the law and indangering other peoples lives

  • Breaking what law...? There's no speed limit where we start to have fun (it's the Isle of Man...) so it would "HAVE" been funny, if you knew what you were talking about. Grown-ups only please.

  • What would be funny about that? Even if it was illegal and endangering others.

Are you one of those morbid guys who get a kick out of watching accidents or something?

By the way "fungusgs". Nice riding. I have a GS myself but I could not have followed you. Maybe I could, but I don´t think I would dare try.

How many practice passes did you do to get this fast?

  • But not nearly as funny as you choking to death on a chicken bone while sitting safely on front of your computer making pious judgments on things you have no understanding of. Karma really is a Bitch ya know;)

Great Vid by the way. I have dreams of one day visiting the IOM.

  • i didn't see any law breaking josh, and why would it be funny if he hurt himself? might i suggest that you spend more time brushing up on your spelling/diction and less time making immature statements on the internet.

  • Excellent!
