Because I'm darksin and I can't see myself putting on concealer and blah blah blah...and standing in the sunlight without looking like a caked up clown.
To me I don't think most makeups are for darkskin...
5★'s for this. :] Thanks so much, I know how you feel it's crazy when people say they won't wear certain colors b|c they're too dark to. I see bloggers and YT gurus always say "this color is cute on me but it isn't made for darker skin tones" ...lol. And in most cases some of those colors look crazy on them as well and looks better on darker skin tones... lol what a world we live in. :]
Not True! You would have women looking like clowns. What is true is that all makeup shades is NOT for everyone, a darkskin woman with bright red or pink lipstick would look like a clown, plain truth. A lightskin woman with dark purple or burgandy lipstick comes across looking like Vampira, not a flattering look. Certain shades of lipstick/blush compliment particular skintones, that's why there're millions of shades to choose from since "1 size does not fit all".
@Just2Intense No, there are certain reds and certain burgandys that people can wear. It's mostly the undertone that matters. If you have cool undertones you wear a certain type. Same with warm. It's not all light and dark.
WOW? you sound like your about to cry when you mention when an artist saying your to dark for ..... honestly wtf im a guy, why do girls even wear make up THEY TRICK US MEN MAKING US THINK THERE GOOD LOOKING WHEN THERE NOT!!!!!!!!!!! they look good with makeup for a night then you see em the next day they want to talk and they're fugly!!! seriously stop wearing make up it will save your emotions, your time and my time so i dont get stuck with stupid hoes.
Hey! I have been wearing Painterly Pots since I watched the video. Thank you!!! One of my must-have favorites and my daily eyeshadow base. My colors rock brighter and lasts longer. AND this pot will last almost forever, so the cost is well worth it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I was surprised by this video and watched it twice. I never knew that attitude existed. I'm pale white, and have thin lips. I feel like a clown in bright makeup, bright lips look like a sad joke on me if I don't use a plumper and line my lips. I feel like I look like a kid decorated my face with magic markers if use bright makeup. I naively thought black women were lucky, many seem to look so great in vibrant makeup, and I torture my face to get fuller lips. Thank you for sharing this video
Girl! You hit the nail on the head. Many black women don't wear makeup because we don't typically see alot of other sister's rocking it, so many women don't know how to apply it correctly. When I first began trying to put on my makeup, I looked like a drunk clown LOL. But it takes practice. For all the sister's out there that want to try it out. I suggest getting on here find some stuff you like and practice with some cheap stuff. Don't knock it till you try it.
everyone has their opinions ... and of course i know what year it is.. i already commented on what i meant by that .. feel free to look for it and read it!
Thank you my sister, let them know and stop listening too uninformed individuals. Especially with our natural coloring all colors will pop on allshades of brown skin.
I like Painterly Paint Pot for an eyeshadow base. For along time before paint pots I used the MAC cream shadow in the tube(Stilife and Bamboom) as a base for my shadows. I am about your color and I LOVE red lipstick. I know so many black women that are afraid to rock a red lip. My fav is Russian Red. I line my lip with Milani lip pencil in Chanti and fill in my lips with MAC Cherry lipliner and then apply the Russian Red lipstick. I get so many compliments. :) You should try it.
lol, instead of Sarah or Becca maybe Goldilocks or Rapunzel, Snow White. LOL. I was like "uh oh, she's going to get comments on that" But I completely get where you're coming from.
@scandalousbeauty I've been seeing some reviews for graftobian. they seem to have such a large range in colors (especially for women of color). have you tried them?
i'm a super newbie to make up andbefore staring thought i could only do bronzes some silver and blacks. THANKS SO MUCH to you and some other's users like ohsoreal, foreversongbird and jacquidoll house i see i can rock whatever color i want as a dark skined sister and it be hot. I can't wait to get more skilled this summer i will def be rocking me some pink purple and the right shade of red.

Love this video!!! I never thought I could get colors to work on me and i'm not light nor dark. But I use to have troubles getting colors to stay or pop. I start just practicing techiques and get I shadow primers to help. I am now subscribing to you now.
I annoys me too but I get told im too white to wear certain colours or I cant pull off red lips, but I like colourful make up if I am wearing a black dress or something, also what annoys me is most brands don't go light enough for me, they only cater to people with "normal skin colours"
i used the word colored to not offend anyone ... i don't want my comment to be about race or anything as such .. it was only about color ex light med dark olive , thats the way i see it as an artist nothing else.
Thanks for posting your "rant" vid it was much needed! I have darker skin and I agree with you...color should always be tried once or twice. I remember when I started wearing makeup and I was afraid to try bright colors but I came across Songbirddiva's vids and I tried every color she recommended and most of her recommendations were on point! And I can tell you every single time I went to the MAC store a "artist" would tell me what they thought. I love your vids...keep them coming chica!
Hmmm. I remember reading in Ebony years ago that black people used to say that dark skinned black women shouldn't wear bright colored CLOTHING; I assume this was said up until the early 20th century. But then the late Eunice Johnson decided to use a very dark skinned black model to model a bright red dress in some pictures for Fashion Fair in the late 50s somewhere.
My Mom is the devil! She hates when I wear red, reddish pink, or bright to dark pink lipstick she says my mouth is too big for that. She has her bronzey-plummy lipstick from Fashion Fair that she always wears and that's fine with me but I'm wearing my lipstick my way dammit! ha ha ha xD
Men are also bad about telling their girlfriends and wives they don't need makeup, but will turn their heads to look at a woman that is fully made up with false eyelashes, lip gloss, powder and the works...now I wonder why that is? The women they fantasize about on television...guess what they wear makeup! There are so many makeup beliefs that are just stupid that I hope women are getting away from. Colors are beautiful and I plan to enjoy all of them on my face and look good while I'm doing it!
Church..PREACH!!! Girl I'm a NW45/NW50 and I am not too shy to color and never have been! I don't understand why women of color feel like all they can wear is neutral colors. I like neutral colors, but they get boring really quick for me. I also hate to hear this "makeup is meant to be natural" philosophy. That's fine and dandy, but makeup is also meant to be FUN!!!
Well there are SOME rules with makeup. There is make up out there that really is made for specific color skins (white, pale etc.) I mean why would u buy a eyeshadow that for a fact looks way better on a different color skin than your own, dark or light doesn't matter.
hey erin ... got a question i wrk at sephora and i get some clients that are colored and even though foundation for colored people has improved .. alot of times those colors we carry are not dark enough or it starts going into dark redish brown tones which don't suit most colored women ... i will love to help those clients any ideas?
i think it just depends on ur features? like im caramel complexion but i can't wear red lipstick..beyonce is hte same color as me and she can but because of my features i can't :-/ so it just depends on what you look like. or like nicki minaj is darker and pink lipstick looks GREAT on her but not on me
@evileyez504 Maybe you feel as if you can't wear pillarbox red or London bus red but there's a red out there for you. Think of all those Pantone cards, there's a gazillion different reds out there. And pink is even easier to wear, there's a nice neutral pink out there for you at least. People compliment me when I wear reddish pink lipstick. and I'm an NC45.
I hate hearing it too. But I am not going to even lie, I have said it to myself before in the past about "pink lipsticks". I never knew how beautiful the makeup colors looked on our dark-skin until I saw your videos. Thank you for proving people that WE can wear any color on our skin no matter how dark we are.
I'm a really fair skinned and I totally understand what you are saying! I know it may sound weird but I hate it when really fair skinned ppl say, "I'm too light for that" I love taking makeup risks and I don't care what ppl say! And another thing also I watch a ton of gurus of a wide spectrum of skin tones, and I DO NOT think that skin color should be a barrier :)
im soo happy you made this video. i thought i was the only one who hated when darker women or any color of women said things like that.im brown and i love red lip stick i wear it any chance i get!
well the makeup artist at mac told me the samething paintly was to light I thought of you and said no it's not I seen it on brown skin before and it not to light and make the eyeshadow color pop even more so I want it and i'm buying it today. he just looked at me but guess what he rung the sh% up you know why because i'm the one spending my money I looked back at him and give him the look like don't make me jump over this counter and whip your a%$ over a paint pot. (hahahha)
honestly i do and dont feel like i shudnt wear certain shades...like i wont pick up a hot pink or purple...i just dont see me doing that actually not so much my skin tone (i have no problem with color cause i have like a fricken raibow pallet lol) i just dont see me doing that but i believe in making it work but if u cant then hey u tried! i just dont think its for me but i def think it looks amaing on others :) but i do have alot of red lipstick lol...my new thing is pinks and corals
I don't know why anyone would listen to you for two years. You REALLY need to learn how to get to the point at the beginning of videos and stay on the point throughout. I know you call it a "rant" but you have GREAT points that deserve more than thrown together rambles!
I am an NW45 who loves bright vibrant colors. MAC's C-Shock, Dare to Wear, and Style Black were my favorite collections. I also like Barbie Loves MAC. Sistahs are able to flaunt all color families.
Im a dark skin girl and baby I tell you Turquoise is my fav eye color, I love love love my pink blush and red lips are my fav! go for it chocolate girls..
Thank you for posting this!! I'm a young dark skinned girl also and I love color but ppl say I should wear some colors bcuz I am!!! which I never understood why!! But u really help me to see that is doesn't matter as long as u do right!! Thanks again!!
OH MY GEEE!! Thanks so much for making this. I was JUST having this EXACT SAME convo with my bestie yesterday. Im a brown girl and shes a shade or so darker than me. Shes always telling me what she CANT wear. Im the first to put on a hot pink lip and make it work and im tired of hearing her talk about how she's too dark to wear things. Im forwarding this video to her so that she can hear it from someone else!! Loves it!
Hey-loved this vid but I realized today why a lot of dark skin women are insecure about being bold with makeup. A makeup artist at the MAC counter told me today that someone with my skin tone shouldn't be wearing pinks!!! Like she literally told me to stay away from a whole range of shades just because I was dark. Unfortunately a lot of people are misinformed and make other women feel like their options are limited.

Luv it! Well stated! I went to the MAC counter to try a shade of Pink lipstick and I was told that i was a tad too dark for it.....YES I DID EXPRESS MYSELF TO THE ARTIST (you can guess her race, and i mean that in the most respectful way although my race was NOT respected!). I reported her to her boss aswell. Great vid! People stand up! Black is beautiful! btw, yes i did purchase that shade at *another location and it looks amazing!
Thanks for posting this, scandalousbeauty. I am a YouTuber as well with a similar skin tone and am currently exploring various makeup looks to do in my upcoming videos. I definitely am not limiting myself for my tutorials. I embrace the fact that I can make any color work if I really want to make it work. Plus, it is really fun to consider colors that I normally don't wear and have fun with them.
@crystalroselove I will say, however, that many magazines promote the idea of "if you are this skin tone, you should only wear these lipstick shades/eye shadow colors," etc. I think a lot of women with darker skin tones stick to those suggestions and don't necessarily feel comfortable exploring options outside those suggestions. I take the suggestions with a grain of salt and explore colors on my own, regardless of what the experts have to say.
Thank you so much for posting this. I'm a teenager and new to makeup and recently I saw a photograph of a WOC wearing bright lipstick and I thought that I wouldn't work on me. This vid inspired me to try it!
Artist usually like my darkskin because the color pops more against my skin tone. However, I think a lot of that idea comes from 1. bad pigments, and 2. the darkskin individuals "undertones?" I'm most definitely an amateur as far as makeup. But I love to play in it. I realize for the pretty colors I see and want I HAVE to use a more expensive product. It'll either wear off or make me look ashy/frosty it simply doesn't look right. It takes practice AND confidence.
I agree 1000% with everything you said. As an NW45 girl I'm just tired of getting comments like, "you're too dark for that" or being pressured to wear neutrals and dark colors. Even my mom gave me this crazy look when I left out the house with Vegas volt on my lips and told me I should wear a berry or plum lip! I think it's an old school thing. I try and encourage ppl to wear ANY color they want and not be discouraged bc of their skin tone.
I've learned WHAT and how to apply colored makeup. I was QUEEN of neutrals and broke out of that same mentality. I often get compliments on my eyeshadow combos now and have once again learned to LOVE what I can do with my skin color & how it makes makeup colors POP :)
That happened to me, too. I went to the store and asked for painterly paint pot, but someone gave me bamboo. I didn't realize it at the time because I was still new to makeup. I went to the mac studio talk class. That's what we used in the class. I thought I had it because it's on my list of things we used. I also got the same response with the 204 brush. I was told that was not to apply foundation. I like bamboo, but painterly was what I needed for my look.
@scandalousbeauty do the paint pots ever make your eyes burn at the end of the day. I have to really be careful when I use bamboo because like around 8 or 9 p.m., after continuous wear, my eyes start burning so much to the point I have to pull my car over to keep from crashing. This is not an exaggeration. I was just wondering if I am the only one who has experienced this. If so, do you have any suggestions to prevent this.
Thank you! Thank you and Amen. WOC today have options and we should embrace them. I was in college by the time a dark sista like me could by foundation and powder in the drugstore!! Before then it was only Flori Roberts and I wad too poor for the fancy department store. NO woman of any color should accept limitations on what colors we "should" wear. Learn the technique, play around, and rock your s**t!
@UltraDuskyJewel My Mom used to buy Flori Roberts, at one time she preferred their foundation to Fashion Fair's. At least now she likes using Black Opal. I have to admit for a drugstore line Black Opal's quality is pretty decent.
PS: When I asked to try painterly paint pot at my MAC counter I actually had a sales lady say - "Oh I don't think that will work for you" I was so disappointed because I'd seen every youtube beauty guru use it, I walked away without buying anything. NEVER again! xo
@MsCinone A light skinned or biracial woman at MAC told me to try Painterly because it brings out the color of the shadows. I used Constructivist at the time which is pretty but she said would be too brown to use with non-brown shadows.
Yes Yes Yes!! I was born in Africa I have medium to dark skin and bigger than average lips and I have ALWAYS thought I can't do pale pink or nude lips. The other day I dragged out a frosty nude from the back of my makeup drawer, teamed it with a beige gloss and a very dark smokey brown eye and it looked HOT. Even men complimented me on my lips!! Now I'm on the hunt for more nudey/ pale pink colours. Why did I limit myself for so long??? Love this video, love your attitude!!
I love pink but There are some shades I would never ever wear....unless going to crazy clubs or audition or like its valentine day and I am going to a sorority party/event (party party party (^^)v). If you have to add extra makeup to make the color fit your skin..its probably not worth it and just get another easy color to wear
.crazy color or color that just look weird on the skin and is best for clubs or model
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
....what..wait? I think its fine if someone say that they are too dark to wear certain color or something. There are color that doesnt look good when pale skin wear it. The store pays the makeup artist to help find makeup/color that would get good on their costumer for everyday living(mainly).
Hearing you say that people should be aware of saying something like that in front of you because of your reaction is pretty....immature?ghetto?juvenile? I cant think of i great word for it.
@crazygood5 she isnt saying that people should be aware of not saying that in front of her, her rant is that dark skin females limit themselves. whats the point of an NW45 or 50 female subscribing to her then going to a makeup counter and feeling foolish about picking up a bright pink blush. Never thought I would see a comment like this on this video, you completely missed the message.
@crazygood5 I just read your comment and my question to you is why in the world would you write a comment to Scandalousbeauty's rant as immature, juvenile and most shocking to my ears as GHETTO???
Her argument was very mature and she, like you are entitle to an opinion. Please do yourself a favor and check yourself, because that was not cool!!!
This is one of the reasons I started making youtube videos myself. I love watching make up videos on youtube but seriously when you put in "make up for dark skin" you never get a 'dark' asian girl doing make up. Or if you put in 'make up for asian skin tone' you get chinese or korean and I'm like 'well I dont think I'm amazing at make up, neither do I think I'm amazing looking, but where are make up looks for indian girls?!?' ... I agree with everything said in this video! =]
Thanks for doing this video. I love to wear diffeent colours and have been inspired by so many YTbers over the past 3 years to be more confident in experimenting with what's out there. Makeup is meant to be fun. Enjoy it!
Lovin the intro everytime wishing I got my pic in but I digress on my lack of timing. N E whoo, enjoyed your rant and it needed to be said b/c you're so right. I used to think blues were NOT for me until I changed up my technique and didn't apply it as heavy or light (depending on the color). Now u can't keep me out of the bright colors just like the others, lol. Your hair is the cutest...love it!
I feel you Boo!! I have darker skinned clients all the time that say the same thing and it kills me!!! I always tell them it is about a confidence level, not skin color! You can wear absolutely anything you want and look fabulous wearing it! I don't know where it came from either. I think it is an old mentality that was instilled in out grand parents or great grandparents. You know the dark skin versus light skin thing. Dark skin is amazing!!! The colors pop like no other on deep skin!!
Still having a hard time with my lashes..... my natural lash are very curly..... getting in the way of precisely placing false eyelashes... any suggestions?
I hate when people say "I'm to dark to wear this color" too, I tell them that women of color can wear ANY color that's why we're called women of color!
I love dark brown skin. i am a little lighter than what is considered dark.. but still not light skin.. inbetween i suppose. But that has never stopped me from wearing color! Its in the technique!
I used to believe the myth that we dark skin girls were limited to certain hues but I'm sooo happy that I learned that our beautiful brown skin can complement ANY color. I'm so thankful to you and other makeup vloggers that look like ME!! Great vid girl!
i dnt think ive really thought that....i think u can wear something the wrong way...i just bought some pinkish red lipstick that i love and im darkish...a smidge darker than you so phssst i wear what i want
@Anigurl1 Check out Illamasqua!!! They make at least 3 very pretty raspberry colored reddish pink lipsticks! Salacious, Drench, and Resist! Their lipsticks are pretty and feel nice on.
My only warning sadly is this: Illamasqua lipsticks sorta have a....taste LOL This is why MAC lipstick formulations are the best in the world. MAC's lipsticks are the most comfortable, lightweight, and have no annoying smells or taste.
I feel you Erin! I started watching vids abt 2 yrs ago, looking strictly for WOC Bloggers. Then I started branching off to filipino bloggers like MakeupByRenRen asians like Fafinettex3, now watching the clear girls like Tiffany D, and xSparkage and I LOVE them all! Now I feel encourage to start vids by friends & inspired by gurus to do vids of my own. We can all were the same stuff, may just have to tweak it a tad so it fits the "personality" of who's wearing it.
Buts its true for white skin too. Like, there are certain colors that I can't wear, it would look rediculous and people would make fun of me... I'm extremely white and I hate it.
thank you so much for this video. I manage a retail cosmetic store located near a predominately black and affluent area. It's depressing as a woman of color and makeup addict that many of my fellow brown girls can't seem to get past brown eyeshadow. It seems that darker skin is still stigmatized in our communities, and many of us darker chocolate sisters have internalized that "Bright is Right" mentality. Hopefully your video will help more women realize that color is for EVERYONE.
thankyou for this. I grew up with my mum saying that she was too dark to wear certain things, and that sort of rubbed off on me. My mum is a light skinned black woman, and I'm mixed with white, so I think it's an ingrained belief. And lol, Sista Cecil's brick red rouge sure as hell doesn't help!
I think its about having a certain confidence level. If you aren't very self confident then you aren't going to step out of the box. If you check out my vids, I rock any color and rock it well, but its because I am a very confident woman. I will wear blue, green, pink, etc it doesn't matter. If you have the confidence to rock a color to me, you seem to wear it well no matter what.
that is exactly how i feel about my first Nars blush in "Taos" it's a gorgeous color but i first i thought i was too light for it. but i found a way to rock it. ;)
I agree. It hurts my head when I see make up 'rules." Such as, I shouldn't wear blue eye shadow because I have blue eyes? PSHA! I <3 my blue eye shadow. =D
thanks for the video girl, its soo true. i wear whatever color i want and i think it looks better on us anyways. but i have a question. if i am a nw50 in mac studio fix powder what concelor should i use? nw 45?
Hey Scandalous Beauty I love your Chanel...I was wondering if you can do a nice look (color ,nutural what ever) for me to try, I have a pool party to go to....not going in the pool just wanna look FLY... it will b outside my skin is med Dark and super duper oily makeup just sinks into my skin after hour outside any help will b Great thanks!!!!
@AkuaRising Yeah. The Noughties that we just left brought back color in makeup again but now the 90s are coming back in style and so is minimalistic clothes, makeup and everything because it's more recession-friendly now.
@AkuaRising Well if you didn't know before, now you know. I don't personally care I do love my strong colors in makeup but yeah the 90s are coming on back for better or for worse!
@jrmetmoi LOL I guess u toooolllddd me. LOL. Yuck I hate the 90s looks. Though honestly the 90s can't really be defined one way. Every year we had a new look. I don't know my friends and I got into color in the 90s when the 80s started to creep in again.
Scandalous Beauty, can I just start by saying..."YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!"
I was one of those individuals that was "afraid" of color. I love color, I would want to wear color but I always thought for whatever reason that I couldn't pull it off. Then...I watched one of your videos, and now...I LOVE COLOR, I WEAR COLOR. I am a NC 44/45 shade and I rock, blues, greens, yellows, oranges, purples, pinks and not just as accent colors but the main lid colors and it rocks. So THANK YOU! and KEEP INSPIRING!!
@candyfro89 Ghetto??? Did you even watch the video?? Or did you just read the title and then decide you wanted to comment?? If anything is ghetto here, it's your ignorant ass comment..smhhh
Plain and simple; people are ignorant. Look at the runway model in Europemost of them are black, AND of a darker hue, their makeup is fierce! I would dare to say that colors show up better on a darker canvas.. My self? Well, I have spent YEARS tanning trying to get dark as possible, simply because darker skin hides every little flaw, especialy redness; so when I hear browner, or darker women whine about how"that won't look good on me". Yeah, I wannna shake the crap outta them. Rant understood.
I am so happy you did this video. I am a little darker than you and only start watching Youtube this year. I have never been scared of color and with watching these type of videos, I am so upset at my dark skinned sistas. We can wear anything as long as it is applied correctly. Come on ladies!!
i am so on board with what youre saying up in this piece! lmao! i am so sick of my beautiful brownskinned friends and acquaintances telling me that they cant wear colors. i dont know what they are afraid of! Brown goes with EVERYTHING! we are literally the perfect neutral and we need to embrace it! the artists at MAC and sephora LOVE doing my eyes because i dont limit them to browns and golds!
ps. i watch all the same makeup artists that you do! im superpsyched fauryn is back!
"I'm too dark to wear..." I agree with you about this, but I'll even take it a step further and say that I love the bright variance of colors that are only possible with a dark black woman's skin.
Give yourselves a break, sistahs, your beauty is capable of enormous variety.
you are a FOOL, lol, but i totally agree! i wear yellow, pink, orange or green, pale lips and pink cheeks etc on any given occasion!! i love color and i don't run fromit!! its one of those things that we need to unlearn some myths that we "heard" from somone and take it as law instead of trying something and making our own "rules". keep doing what you do and keep on dropping the knowledge!!!!
Love this video and im a tanish/carmel complextion girl and sometimes i wish i was darker because iv noticed brighter colors look really really i mean really great on darker skin woman. Sometimes im kinda jealous
I am very shocked to read the comments for tis video...and everyone is agreeing that females, like me, with dark skin, are "luckier"! I never thought tha about my own skin complection because I was too afraid to try other colors of eyeshadow. This gives me a new perspective!
Thats what I say.

Just2Intense 2 months ago
@Just2Intense No, there are certain reds and certain burgandys that people can wear. It's mostly the undertone that matters. If you have cool undertones you wear a certain type. Same with warm. It's not all light and dark.
427skies 2 months ago
@427skies Thanks, you proved my point, again it depends on your complexion whether certain shades will either compliment you or clown you.

WOW? you sound like your about to cry when you mention when an artist saying your to dark for ..... honestly wtf im a guy, why do girls even wear make up THEY TRICK US MEN MAKING US THINK THERE GOOD LOOKING WHEN THERE NOT!!!!!!!!!!! they look good with makeup for a night then you see em the next day they want to talk and they're fugly!!! seriously stop wearing make up it will save your emotions, your time and my time so i dont get stuck with stupid hoes.

I annoys me too but I get told im too white to wear certain colours or I cant pull off red lips, but I like colourful make up if I am wearing a black dress or something, also what annoys me is most brands don't go light enough for me, they only cater to people with "normal skin colours"
xoxlottieluxox 1 year ago
i used the word colored to not offend anyone ... i don't want my comment to be about race or anything as such .. it was only about color ex light med dark olive , thats the way i see it as an artist nothing else.

nidemibloom 1 year ago

There is make up out there that really is made for specific color skins (white, pale etc.) I mean why would u buy a eyeshadow that for a fact looks way better on a different color skin than your own, dark or light doesn't matter.

i think it just depends on ur features? like im caramel complexion but i can't wear red lipstick..beyonce is hte same color as me and she can but because of my features i can't :-/ so it just depends on what you look like. or like nicki minaj is darker and pink lipstick looks GREAT on her but not on me
evileyez504 1 year ago
@evileyez504 Maybe you feel as if you can't wear pillarbox red or London bus red but there's a red out there for you. Think of all those Pantone cards, there's a gazillion different reds out there. And pink is even easier to wear, there's a nice neutral pink out there for you at least. People compliment me when I wear reddish pink lipstick. and I'm an NC45.

Plus, it is really fun to consider colors that I normally don't wear and have fun with them.
crystalroselove 1 year ago
@crystalroselove I will say, however, that many magazines promote the idea of "if you are this skin tone, you should only wear these lipstick shades/eye shadow colors," etc. I think a lot of women with darker skin tones stick to those suggestions and don't necessarily feel comfortable exploring options outside those suggestions. I take the suggestions with a grain of salt and explore colors on my own, regardless of what the experts have to say.

I like bamboo, but painterly was what I needed for my look.
amarige25 1 year ago
@amarige25 Uuugh! Bamboom is a really pretty color though! I owned it but it made my lids oily.
scandalousbeauty 1 year ago
@scandalousbeauty do the paint pots ever make your eyes burn at the end of the day. I have to really be careful when I use bamboo because like around 8 or 9 p.m., after continuous wear, my eyes start burning so much to the point I have to pull my car over to keep from crashing. This is not an exaggeration. I was just wondering if I am the only one who has experienced this. If so, do you have any suggestions to prevent this.
amarige25 1 year ago
@amarige25 Really? That neevr happened to me at all. I love the paint pots for keeping the eyeshadow on because my eyelids are all the way too oily.

Before then it was only Flori Roberts and I wad too poor for the fancy department store. NO woman of any color should accept limitations on what colors we "should" wear. Learn the technique, play around, and rock your s**t!
UltraDuskyJewel 1 year ago
@UltraDuskyJewel My Mom used to buy Flori Roberts, at one time she preferred their foundation to Fashion Fair's. At least now she likes using Black Opal. I have to admit for a drugstore line Black Opal's quality is pretty decent.

....what..wait? I think its fine if someone say that they are too dark to wear certain color or something. There are color that doesnt look good when pale skin wear it. The store pays the makeup artist to help find makeup/color that would get good on their costumer for everyday living(mainly).
Hearing you say that people should be aware of saying something like that in front of you because of your reaction is pretty....immature?ghetto?juvenile? I cant think of i great word for it.
crazygood5 1 year ago
@crazygood5 she isnt saying that people should be aware of not saying that in front of her, her rant is that dark skin females limit themselves. whats the point of an NW45 or 50 female subscribing to her then going to a makeup counter and feeling foolish about picking up a bright pink blush. thank you so much for this video.

I envy much darker-skinned black women because for one thing they can wear truly pure bright red lipstick and not look like a fool for the most part.

That whole anti-color thing came from the early 90s with Sam Fine. Though he uses color too.
AkuaRising 1 year ago
@AkuaRising Yeah. The Noughties that we just left brought back color in makeup again but now the 90s are coming back in style and so is minimalistic clothes, makeup and everything because it's more recession-friendly now.
jrmetmoi 1 year ago
@jrmetmoi Oh that's news to me. LOL A Beige or Brown shadow costs me the same $17 as a Turquoise Hot Pink. LOL.
AkuaRising 1 year ago
@AkuaRising Well if you didn't know before, now you know. I don't personally care I do love my strong colors in makeup but yeah the 90s are coming on back for better or for worse!
jrmetmoi 1 year ago

@memer1134 Exactly. That's why I gave the little disclaimer in the beginning because not only dark women feel this way.

I am very shocked to read the comments for tis video...and everyone is agreeing that females, like me, with dark skin, are "luckier"! I never thought tha about my own skin complection because I was too afraid to try other colors of eyeshadow. This gives me a new perspective!
