  • Whenever i make a curve and want to continue with a sharp edge, the pen wont let me. After a curve, even if a do not drag the mouse at all, it still continues the curve even when i want it to be straight. Please help!

  • Thankyou

  • thanks for this. I am working on a school project and this was very helpful! I didnt know PS had this on it, I thought AI was the only one that had it. You saved me a lot of stress. thanks again.

  • Thanks, i was drawing a face however if you use the default 3px brush it makes sketching very messy and unsightly, then I decided to try pen tool, it came out much better... although is there way to control the amount of pen pressure simulation? Sometimes it just doesn't draw a line at all....

  • Unforuantly, to my knowledge, Adobe has yet to add that feature. But it sure would help. For now, you must experiment. Each curve that has a point @ it center, you will define the thickness based on the distance between it's hooks. Adding more points (with hooks) will help thin it out. But since it's already too thin, then try as I do. On a seprate layer (in a group if possible) add another stoke from that pentool path. Only this time don't apply preassure and decrease your brush size. ;)

  • GREAAAT ! thank u very muchc , that's really helpful =)

    5*

  • Glad I could help. ^_^

  • Thanks this helped a lot I wasn't aware you had to make a new layer on top of the image to draw and was getting pretty irritated with it.

  • You're Very Welcome. :)

  • thanks.

  • You're welcome

  • so much better tutorial than all the other ones!!

  • lol Thanks you

    Glad I could help ;)

  • this was very useful thank you!

  • When I scan my pencil art(on A4 paper) and open it using photoshop it's so small that when it comes to using the pen tool the lines are not smooth. How can I fix this problem? Someone please help. Thank you :)

  • During the Preview process of your scan, check the resolution. It should be 100% or higher with at least 200dpi (dots per inch). Most scanners allow the artist to click n the preview to bring up a selection box. Place this box around the area you want to keep. Then send the scan to your program or drive. Hope this helps.

  • yes this did help. thanks a lot.

  • Happy to hear it.

    Very Welcomed.

  • I can use the pen tool now!

But I was wondering how you make the make the lines thicker?

I know you demonstrated how to do them but it doesn;t work.

I made the anchor points with the pen tool and then curve them. I right clicked and clicked on 'Stroke Path' I chose 'Brush' nd then check 'Stimulate Pressure' but nothing happened.

It's still the same anchro points that i made before.

  • If you need thicker lines (and don't want to use the Preassure Option) then simply change the size of your Paint Brush. And re-apply the 'Stroke Path.' Whatever settings you apply to your Brush will apply to the stroke of the path (including the shape of the brush).

  • When I make 3 lines it makes it draw a shape and color it in. How do I make it just draw a line?

  • Near the start of the tutorial, I zoom the camera in to one of the Pen Tool settings. That setting MUST be clicked first and the one to the left of it will think click off automatically.

  • Wow, thank you so much for making this video!

    It helped me alot :D

  • Glad I could help. ;)

  • You sir, are amazing. Every other tutorial I saw forgot to point out one critical step: the part where you select the "path" option fr the pen tool. If you hadn't have said that then I would've been lost. Thank you!

  • lol. Well I'm glad I said it then. ^_^

  • Yay thank you so much!!! I was wondering why my pen tool kept filling the middle part (between the 2 dots), and then I found this tutorial ^^ Thanks again!

  • You're VERY Welcome.

And sorry for the late reply.

  • what is the program used?

    xD

  • Oh, sorry. It's Photoshop. But it should come close to helping with other programs as well.

  • how do you make the backround dispear?

  • Make sure your original layer is either hidden or deleted.

  • You're fantastic. Seriously. I never knew how to use that damn tool and now its making it so much easier to make nice crisp lines on a drawing.. (well, really, its making nice, crisp negative space since I'm deleting instead).. THANK YOU!!

  • lol, Glad I could help. ^_^

  • thanks helped me out

  • I don't understand at all :/

It's not your fault, this was as straightforward as it could have been.

    I'm just a tard.

  • No you're not. It just takes getting use to it.

I didn't have internet when I was learning it, so had t teach myself. You wouldn't believe the fustrations I went through. Mail me the problems you're having and I'll do my best to help.

  • haha sorry for my late reply, I got it now, your trial explained it all really, with what I had seen, I taught myself the parts I didn't understand.

  • i'm not trying to be mean but do have a speech inpedement?

  • Unfortaintly, yes. Been trying hard to get past it, but nothing seems to work. My Elementary school (way back in the 80's) gave me a Speech tutor. She clearly fail. :(

  • I'm trying photoshop just now. darn I suck at pening but I think your tutorial helps alot. Maybe I just got to get use to it. oh well the tutorials great man !

  • lol. yeah, it does take a lot of getting use to

  • it was a good tutorial!

  • dude thanx for this!

i make all but when i clck OK on STROKE PATH option..

nothing happend!! dont apear the black line lke u!! any suggestion? thanx

  • Sorry for the late reply.

1- Make sure you don't have selection box somethere in your file.

2- Make sure "Simulate Preassure" is off when you test it. Sometimes, the curves can effect the thickness of the line where you can't see it.

-Make sure the Brush is the tool used when adding the Stroke. Hope this helps.
