Hey man! First of all thanks a lot for your tutorials, I bought all of them and it really helps! you are really a great teacher!
I still didn't get my guitar out yet! I got some issue with the vibrato pocket that goes through the whole body, it's not explained on your tutorials and I can't find any solution for that on mastercam, so I'm stuck there, trying to find a solution... Any help is welcome...
hi there, is there a possibility of you showing us how to turn a solidworks *.par file to a CNC operable code, or how to convert the par file that MasterCamX can spit out the G codes?
@HudCouto Feeds and speeds depends on the material, and the bits you will use. All manufacturers of bits, have a feeds/speeds table you can refer to. Off course, you can also go as fast as the machine you have....the machine you see was my first home-made machine, and it would only go as fast as about 40IPM. My new machine will go up to 400IPM! For wood, I am usually between 60-90 IPM.
@musicmaneman1 This has about a 30 inch wide span on the y-axis, and about 42 inch span on the X...the blank I used was slightly larger than the width of the guitar....Typical guitar widths range from 12-14 inches or so...depending on the model etc...
do you need to do a lot of tweaks in mastercam or is G-CODE conversion mostly done automatically? It's already quite hard to do something good in solidworks so learning another program so deeply doesn't makes me happy xD thanks =)
@cyborg251 thanks for the quick answer =) and for instance, how much time did it roughly take for you to make the computer (from your first click to the launch of the cnc ^^)
@musicmaneman1 The mill was simply a bull-nose 1/4 mill...created a flow line tool path, to go around the guitar, and cut the chamfer...It could also be done with a chamfer bit, but doing it this way, allowed me to just "keep cutting" without making tool changes...
cyborg251 Thanks for the info. I built a telecaster from stuff i got from stewmac.com. I am building a router and looking for any advice i can get. i like the z axis design and think i will change mine to that configuration. That should give me at least 18" on the x axis. My lead screws are only 9",24" and 36". Small table.
@wiln2lrn You need a CAD package to create the models, and then a CAM package to create the G-code which mach3 understands....they do not have to be these two, but you need CAD/CAM to be able to work with mach3
@CCHAMPY33 Why do you think I destroyed any? To be honest, I used a cheap piece of Pine first, and when I was happy, wend right to the mahogany...so to answer your question, One cheap piece of pine... :-)
How hard is it for solidworks or Inventor data to be translated for Mach 3? I guess what I'm asking is what is the process after completion of the model?
Well it took me about 4-5 months to learn all this stuff, as information is all over the map. This is the reason why I created my learning videos on my site...to make the process easy for beginners.
Nice. How difficult is it to make one of these in solidworks. Im in high school and ive already been using solidworks for a year now but im still pretty new to it. I wanted to make a guitar because im starting a band too and of course i have no money to actually buy one so im going to make it using the schools resources. This im guessing is pretty hard to do but it doesnt take more than like 3 months at my level does it if i really tried to get it done well? I'm going to try and make a bass.
hi, is there a website or something where it tells you how to make a cnc like your's?? im a guitar player and i find it hard to go out and find a guitar that "does" it for me, im looking into building a cnc so i can build my ideas. PLEASE HELP ME..
It seems the exact outline of the body would not be the main part of a guitar working out for you, and the price of making a machine like this is maybe few thousand dollars compared to a few hundred to use someone else's machine for awhile.
Really nice setup! Is that a Porter Cable laminate trimmer? Also, what wood are you cutting? Bass wood? I recently finished building my own cnc mill (the MDF kind) and one of the main reasons I built it was to do a guitar body at some point. Nice job!
Hi, and thanks! Yes, it is a porter cable laminate trimmer. To my surprise, the thing has some power, and have run it for hours, with no issues. The wood on the guitar above is Honduran Mahogany. Neck was maple, and the fretboard is indian rosewood. It came out nice.
I want to build my own guitar, I have just ordered the plans for the same router you have. I like the performance of your machine and was just wondering what kind of material did you use for it and what size and kind of motors did you go with? I was also wondering what size router you use, sorry for all the questions but I would like to build my machine to be able to do what yours does. After my build is complete I would like to buy some of your DVDs, are they still for sale?
Usage of solidworks, can be easy using the tutorials that come with the program, you give a stock to master cam and import the part created on SW. ok ok, but making the cnc machine, wow. aplause, felicidades amigo. excelente trabajo :D

If it was not for a Serb and the Jap's you'd still be using DC power, have no lights, have no silicone chip, have no computers. In fact all you would have is the Winchester lever action rifle.
Americans invented the light bulb, the telegraph, the telephone, the TCP/IP protocol and thus the internet... The friggin AIRPLANE... Samuel Colt invented the revolver..The phonograph... I could keep on but I figure you've had your fill of crow.

what did you use for the feeds/rates and speeds? Is there something that's more apropriate to wood, or does it only have to do with your machine?

@TopGear6666 No I do not....actually, I play it while the machine is cutting! :-)
I know, a "warlock" appropriate tune would have fit better....maybe on the next one! :-)
