What was your wind like? I was always told the snorting was to clear their nostrils so they can smell u better but she looked like she was being pretty aggressive .
Snort! Boom! - problem solved. "White" deer - i.e., albino or leucistic - carry recessive genes and are detrimental to the vitality of the herd and should be shot.
@redlegagent believe it or not it isnt allowed in many states to shoot a white (albino) deer. I totally agree with you though. Not to mention the thing is going to die anyhow its an easy target for other predators.
she was prolli wunderin what the fuck was breathin so loud haha, i had a doe blow under the stand for like 2 minutes and she just stopped n hung around for an hour after she scared every other deer outta there
Screw this sound.. Deer are eating my crops. The. On top of that I try to go back there to keep them out and they scare me away??? He'll no man! Someone give me advise. And yes these deer have charged me before so please no one say, "they won't Attack", because I have already been through it.
lol, the reason its blowing is 1. to warn all other deer there is danger, 2. to see if you move first, so she knows your a threat 3. and if you notice, sometimes they stamp there foot, trust me this is the worst thing to hear. first you are drawing back on a big o buck tthen you here th blowing noise and you already know your fucked!!!!
I had 5 does in front of my tree stand,,, and a buck smelled me first, came running and sneezed 3 times ,,,, before running away with all de does......it was too dark to shoot......oh well, next time....
I was just out taking my evening walk in the woods where i see alot of deer, i realized i had forgot my sidearm i usually carry. Then I heard that exact grunt twice. Yes i was almost mr.poopy pants and promply turned around and booked it home.
Deer are very vocal, she is sending a warning out to others by barking and stomping the ground, maybe calling to a fawn. She senced danger and was telling others, she was not going to attack or bite you
just this last year when I was out hunting a pair of does came up right behind and to the left of me and they were probably about half that distance hissing and stomping at me. I didn't dare move a muscle haha =P
@edstudd22 I had a deer get with in about 2 yards of me and start doing this. She just stood there, so I sat and waited for her to move and then I got up and walked away. Why would she do that?
@RiftZM I will occasionally take deer corn to an area where hunting is illegal (usually during the winter;we have really HARSH winters here) .I don't wait around for them, I just drop an open bag and leave.I leave bird bells and squirrel treats too.
Anyway, one day I poured the corn out and a doe came right up to me (within about 3-4 feet) and made this noise. I just slowly got out of the way.I had no idea what it meant.I wasn't going to challenge her....lol.
Well, it could be that her offspring is nearby, but not close enough to follow her if she decided to book it, or it could be that her sleeping grounds are nearby, so she's trying to be territorial. These two hypothesis may not necessarily be the correct one for this situation, but it's an idea.
were i hunt there is an extreamly fucked up buck doe ratio so i hunt doe not buck but if a nice one like an 8 point walks out ill shoot him but ill let spikes and shit walk unlike almost everyone else there (depends on whats in the cooler already)
Not a white deer its a whitetailed deer lol. and its not snorting its blowing to let other deer know there is danger but you were pretty close nice video by the way!
Am I the only hunter that get the urge (once in a while) to put a bullet in between a does' eyes when she's blowing at you as you're sitting still? :p
@sharpshooter0508 - why would you get the urge to put a bullet btw it's eyes. it's just doing what a deer does. you are the one hunting it. I think what you are trying to say is you just enjoy blowing deer's heads off
Clearly, you don't hunt, and you don't understand the *urge* I am referring to. Allow me to elaborate: When hunting, it is common for does (typically older ones) to be more keen of their surroundings than bucks, so they pick up on human presence faster. When they are aware of human presence, they'll *snort* or blow, warning all the other deer to run away. This is why many decide to shoot these older does over many other deer; to keep the rest of the deer from being so jittery.
So I am not saying I enjoy blowing a deer's head off; when hunting does, it is also common to shoot them in the head to save the rest of the meat. So there you have it. I hope this explanation helped you understand the actual concept behind my original comment; if you'd like to discuss this further or any other hunting-related subjects, I'd be happy to oblige. If not, then I wish you a very good day. :)
Just let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know, I'm always willing to share my hunting knowledge with those willing to pick up on this ancient way of life. Good luck!
Don't 'jump' to conclusions, jumpy. :P If you actually took the time to read my previous comments, you'd realize that I DO hunt for the meat; I NEVER hunt for sport. Calling me a poacher contradicts all my legal hunting, restoration, and conservation efforts, as well; get the facts straight before you go accusing others of something. :)
I had that happen to me in the woods 3rd day after opener, it just got dark and all I could hear were the blows and the hoofs pounding. Pretty freaky.. :)

@smiguet Typically, it's the doe that do this, and if they stand their ground like that, it's usually a good indicator they have young nearby.
