This is the type of song that professional songwriters put out in the late 1950s in response to the popularity of rock & roll. Not really being in the scene, they'd refer to previous rock hits in their lyrics to try to get on the bandwagon. In this case, the last verse mentions "Stupid Cupid", "Fever", "Itchy Twitchy Feeling", and "Splish Splash", among others.
"Queen of the Hop" by Bobby Darin has a very similar theme.
@bufb Oh yes, I do remember Arlene and Kenny doing the cha, cha to this. Wow how I loved Bandstand, my favorite was Carole Scaldaferri, Justine Corelli and Frani Giordano, I am so happy that someone else remembers Bandstand..
My father took me to see the Pittsburgh Pirates back in 1958 and on our way home I remember this song was on the radio just as we were entering the Squirrel Hill Tunnel.
Damn. Haven't heard this in 50 years. I am getting old.

I was barely a toddler when I first heard this. I loved it- especially the line "keep it cool my ducky-wucky baby-doll our love is lucky..."

Lovely rendition of Lucky Ladybug

Billy & Lillie actually had two consecutive big hits, this being a follow-up (in early 1959) to their Top 10 smash, "La Dee Dah."

Thanks for posting this one. Hard to believe that it was 50 years ago when we first heard it on the radio.
