The Name came from a piece of graffiti that Jimmy Pursey saw on a wall, it originally said Walton and Hersham 69, which is a English non league side who now play in the rymans league, I think, however age had took its toll on the words and all that was left was Sham 69

Love 1970s punk rock, but always felt like Jimmy Pursey and his various Sham 69 incarnations were tryhards of the lowest order. He's like something from a comedy skit show, and his music seemed limited to songs with three chords and lyrics with two syllables. 'Classic' punk (Ramones/Pistols/Banshees/Void­oids etc) was brainy, arty, challenging and even slightly exotic. Sham 69 was the opposite. That's just my opinion though, and thanks for posting.
