I'm not muslim but I'm Indian (so I'm often confused with them) and I live in the USA. I used to live in the UK. Most people in both countries think Indian people are muslims, or muslims and indians are the same, etc. I've often been the victim of many "terrorist" jokes in both countries. In general, however, Americans are more directly racist to muslims that British people as they're exposed to them much less.

And of course people from other countries watching this will most likely accept that all Americans are like this now. From experience I know Americans are weary of Muslims because of 911, but the majority of us would never agree to mark a person because of their religion.
