As a 19 year AIDS Survivor I can honestly say it IS the responsibility of the people 'doing the deed' All the education in the world unfortunately sometimes can't stop the inevitable. For me, it changed my life and brought me to people and places I would never have imagined in extraordinary ways (But, believe me, there are parts that suck majorly!) So, yes, I hope the President does educate people more about AIDS, but I pray even more that people would allow themselves to 'be' educated

I have had 2 family members and a strait best friend die of AIDS, but that was back when people didn't know how it was passed, it is a horrible way to die, very slow and painful. I however, do not feel like much more can be done, you tell the people how NOT to get it, and they still take risks, roll the dice if you will, so... Enough already with the expecting the President to do or even say something about it, stop having unprotected sex, sharing needles, problem solved, DUH!!!

Yes, it is. Outside of it being force upon someone by a third party, as in rape victims with the disease; AIDS is a 100% preventable disease. In that respect, the disease in actually found in the choices that people make for the overwhelming majority of all cases. Safe sex or abstinence and not doing drugs are therefore both the cure and the first line of defense. The vast majority of those suffering from it are, sadly enough, those who -chose- not to inoculate themselves against infection.

2. finding the cure for aids requires finding an antibody that is able to change the shape of its synapses at the same rate and form as HIV which is near on impossible

How does abstinence worsen AIDS? That just kinda sounds ridiculous. Teach people to wrap it up and stop sharing needles, and I'm pretty certain that would help. My mom died of Breast Cancer. I am 14. So, I wouldn't use that 'loved one' crap. My loved one is gone. And my dad has diabetes. You see, I am not just randomly posting.

Diabetes is reversible. If your dad is willing to change his diet and exercise, it is possible to live diabetes-free.

I don't think this is an either/or situation. People are asking that Obama continue the support of AIDS programs, i.e., treatment/cure. This has nothing to do with taking money away from other programs, i.e, cancer/heart/
