  • This song is way too good to have less than 1 million views.

  • Come to SAN ANTONIO TX!!! Xoxoxo

  • Cloudy snowy day, good beer, and thrice. Doesn't get much better.

  • I would just like to say I love how much more intelligent these youtube comments are compared to others.

  • fvrt.

  • L O V E .

  • It's clear that everyone needs to sit back and relax and enjoy how the music makes you feel. We all love Thrice we all come from different back grounds, but one thing is the same is that they move us. Religious or not it makes no difference

  • Who cares, the lyrics also apply to many real life situations and as long as that is the case then I'm happy to call myself a Thrice fan :)

  • why are you all arguing about religion instead of the justin bieber link inside the video?

  • While they have biblical references, they don't claim to be a Christian based band. What does it matter? Even if they were, I love Thrice. I don't tend to like religious based bands, or any lyrics of the such, but I really enjoy Thrice. They're amazing.

  • im not a religious man myself but thrice is the shit. yes indeed

  • I swear some people get boners when any of the lyrics relate to religion lol Just saying...

  • greatest song by Thrice and it's a new. They age like wine!

  • why is there a link to j.b/ on this vid and why does anyone on every music video channel always have something to say about him its annoying and propagating to his "fame" no one cares about j.b. or how much you hate/like him just fucking stop talking about him so we can all finally get his stupid fame behind mankind -thankyou

  • If thrice's music somehow manifested itself into a women she would SCORN YOUR ADVANCES AND GO READ POETRY AT STARBUCKS.

  • @wohs145

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAHHAAHAHAAH

  • I will continue to stand on my original statement; "There is NO such thing as worldly truth".

fuzikea - I said nothing regarding "bad".

LifeGuardDurango - ? I said nothing of there being "no worldly existence - just NO truth in it".

  • Even though I prefer AitA, Vheissu & Alchemy Index, I hyper love this album.

  • This song should be the theme of Into The Wild

  • @rydthespiral

There is NO such thing as worldly truth.

  • @Mauxtiqes I second that

  • @Mauxtiqes Wrong: not everything in the world is bad.

  • @Mauxtiqes if you truly believe that then what you just said is NOT true then. Your statement was dead on arrival... its like saying my brother is an only child.

  • you know it's a good band when they can go from deadbolt to this

  • @metalandsex

Ya agree, but lately I have been craving some more monster riffs from Teppei...

  • 26 now, was 17 and never heard of them but saw them open for Thursday. Ever since then I've been all about them. Its been nice to have a band grow up with and mature with you. We all change but one consistency they've kept is being amazing musicians and songwriters.

  • @theluscioussound Haha, I saw them with Thursday in Co Springs. Wow that must have been 6 years ago now. I'm 23.

  • It is odd to listen to this song after listening to All That's Left. But it is a good odd.

  • Why the fuck are you all talking about God... Shittest comment stream I've ever seen.

    So far off topic

  • @7thJester

Dustin uses Scripture in this song, as he does in many of his other songs. In this song, he is talking about how this world is not his home...he is just a pilgrim here until he finally gets to Heaven, where there will be no pain or tears. Dustin is a Christian, and a ridiculous amount of Scripture that he uses in his lyrics makes that clear. Check out, "The Messenger" (about Isaiah the Prophet), "Of Dust of Nations" (Matthew 6:19), "Like Moths to Flame" (Peter denying Christ).

  • @7thJester this song is all about heaven. The lead singer of thrice is a Christian, this song is about being a citizen of Heaven, the city that endures forever, where all is made new. We only have a glimpse of heaven here now on earth, but one day all will see that God is good.. thats what this song is about, thats why people are talking about God.

  • @7thJester Why are people making stupid comments when they don't know what they're talking about.

  • @7thJester

Because Dustin Kensrue is the worship leader at Mars Hill, because Thrice is a Christian fellowship, because Thrice's lyrics are straight bible, and because God is never irrelevant. If you're so angry at people talking about God maybe you should reconsider your understanding of existence. Because anger is not a thought, it's a feeling.

  • Respond to this video... Anger is a visceral response to an emotion you don't like. Even the bible says, the world will hate those who follow Him. It's not at all surprising you're angry. People who do not accept their creator are naturally angry that they are held accountable. If you were not prideful, do you think you'd have the same emotions? And what has pride ever done for you?

  • Quite simply one of the best ''Woah oh' sections EVER

  • The issue at hand with Christianity today, is that we know just enough about the God's Word to form our own opinions on what it says, rather than knowing what it actually says.

This is a beautiful song, by a wonderful band. So powerful.

  • @iminfected

I would agree with this statement when it comes to the "church" systems. It definitely is a problem...sadly, a lot of the people who combat the truth of Jesus are the hypocritical "church" goers who think they know the Bible because of things their pastors said, but they've never read it for themselves. It really is disheartening.

  • @downtoawhisper

    well said dude

  • to me this about his believing this earth is a sojourn from his rightful place in heaven.

  • Oh how I love the evolution of thrice, can't believe the few views this video has.

  • @rydthespiral If you struggle with your faith take into consideration that you might be going off of your emotions rather than your faith. Depending on what you believe may also be taunting your lack of faith. You were put here for a divine purpose whether. If you think you are here by chane your not. There is a higher purpose than that of which you may have been told. I hope and pray that by the almighty power of Jesus Christ you may find who you are. May God Bless you and anyone who reads this

  • @laju1989

The best defense I need ;)

    Faith is indeed personal

  • @rydthespiral THRICE and TOOL... forever

  • Rockin' song. The hope it inspires is Fantastic! Thank God for someone who is not afraid to Hope, to put the world in it's place, and to challenge all of us to really live. Remarkable lyracist and the band completely captures the essence of the songs they sing.

There won't be another flood, no matter how bad we are, and to hope that on someone else is also not something God would be encouraging...Propose ideas, don't impose Ideas

  • i need a THRICE tattoo

  • @rydthespiral can i hug you?

  • this chorus gives me chills

  • Kensrue is putting aside happiness in the present for a fabled happiness conveniently achieved after death... /facepalm

  • @rydthespiral amen

  • I find it annoying when people come on Thrice videos and comment about faith. Sometimes I wish I could go back to the Identity Crisis days when no one knew about them so I can escape these endless religious conversations. Religion is about being spiritual; it's a personal thing. Don't come on here and front Christian values. No wonder everyone hates Christianity, we can't stop boasting about it and forcefeeding it down society's throat. Worldwide. Christianity will self-destruct if this keeps up

  • @laju1989 feeding the fires i see.

  • @FluffRecordings excuse me? i'm a devote catholic. i'm defending Christianity because Christians are so pompous they believe that no other faith has any validity and therefore feel obliged to harass the world with their views. it sickens me physically. if Christ came back on Earth he would be so disappointed with us. we need another great flood to rid all Christians from this planet so that our religion can stop poisoning the world and start healing it once more. shame on all of us... shame.

  • @laju1989 Odd. i was pointing out that you were making a comment on Christianity, while complaining about people making comments about Christianity.

  • @laju1989 Yeah! I agree with you! Lets have another holocaust and drown all the christians! Lol. There is so many wrong things you said in that shitty paragraph..

  • @laju1989 your logic is incomplete and it's arrogant of you to think you can give council to God; worse than arrogant, really, it's ignorant. ignorant of who God is. the guy is Hope, you know. if he thought Christendom was truly lost we'd all be dead, but we're not. so there must be something worth it coming up. He doesn't leave people out to dry.

  • @dudemanio no we wouldn't be dead...because God gave us free will to choose. by killing us, it would eliminate free will and mercy thus creating God not what He is...I agree that He doesn't leave people out to dry but the idea that we think we can counsel God is what every Human being has the "arrogance" which I would more accurately call 'naivity' because we cannot fully know who God is cuz we are finite beings and He is infinite. this song illudes to this with the idea that we are in "exile"

  • @dudemanio I'm not trying to give council to God or anyone else for that matter. I'm just frustrated with everyone accusing themselves of being sinners, telling each other they're going to hell, going on missions to convert others. Christ's apostles never had the goal of converting Man to Christianity. They simply lived through the Word and those who saw Truth followed. There's no need to force your religious opinions on others. Cherish God in your mind, body and soul. It's so simple...

  • @laju1989 The apostles did more than live the word, they taught it as well. That's why Jesus came back to the apostles after His resurrection and preached to all of them to go out into the world and spread the good news. Do you know what I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for them! How can one actually live the word if he doesn't speak it? He can't. God forgives ALL sin. Call upon the name of the Lord and be Saved! God Loves You more than you will ever know. May God Bless You. Amen.

  • @laju1989 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20

Jesus' final words before leaving the earth. Missions are a commandment, right out of the Word of God. Some just go about it in the wrong way, for they forget about the latter part after Holy Spirit.

  • @laju1989 "May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." Galatians 6:14 I will boast in Christ, for it is He, who saved me!

  • i find the chrous so damn profound, it hits homes

  • awesome awesome song @rydthespiral keep strong in the faith. "Who is the wise man? Where is the philosopher of the day?" Read Paul's words--> there is no world philosophy without God. God is the center of everything. He gives us the mind to think :) Look at the Creator. He's revealed himself! In Jesus Christ. Amen. Dustin a strong believer, he's inspired me so much.

  • love this song - been listening to it a lot in my car lately and singing along. i love the lyrics and vocal lines and music. also "the weight" is pretty freaking awesome. keep writing great songs!

  • OOOO LOOK AT ME AND THUMBS UP MY COMMENT!!!!!..........oh wait, i'm not a douchebag. actually, don't thumbs this up. in fact, why the hell are you even reading these comments? listen to the God damn song, which clearly defines a modern day master piece.

  • musink 3 more days

  • 3 people arn't in Exlie like us

  • i would believe it if dustin kensrue said he's seen the face of God

  • this was the only song off beggars that i heard on the radio. their whole album deserves to be played.

  • The 3 people who disliked this need to .... Nah that's rude.

  • This would the perfect song for movie trailer. Like an epic journey type movie.

  • I think most Thrice fans can agree to disagree about specific points of religion or nonreligion and just enjoy the music.

  • @pjography I definitely fall into the non-religious camp, but I like Dustin's religious lyrics because they never fall into the evangelical or straight praising. He uses them in a literary way; it's kind of how I don't get pissed off with Milton for using religion in his poetry.

  • @pjography

No...you either know what Dustin is singing about, or you don't. To ignore the meaning of the lyrics takes away from the music. Dustin put lyrics (and religious lyrics, might I add) to the music for a reason. He's attempting to get a point across, and I'm sure that he wants his listeners to take something from his music.

  • @downtoawhisper I'm just saying there's massive division among Thrice fans. We have far more commonalities and can learn from each other, as opposed to everyone closing their ears and throwing their dogma down others throats. I very much doubt people's lives have been changed through vitriolic youtube comments--we should appreciate the songs more than jump on each other as fans of the same awesome band.

  • @pjography

There is a difference between "jumping on each other as fans of the same awesome band" and actually discussing what the song means.

There might be division among Thrice fans, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Dustin and the other writers in the band have objective meanings when they write. Often times, their objective meaning is Bible based (at least in regards to Dustin's lyrics). You can't get around it. So when people talk about the Bible, there should be no surprise.

  • @downtoawhisper have you really been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

  • @pjography

I'm sorry...this comment doesn't really make sense. Can you re-word it, please?

  • @downtoawhisper I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It’s just common sense

  • @downtoawhisper

I agree with you to an extent, but you also have to remember that poetry and any form of writing is open to the interpretation. I believe thice might have an underlying meaning about their lyrics, but I like to believe true writers understand that as long as they get something out of what they write end the end it doesn't always matter if it's was their true meaning or not. If they did they would be blunt about it.

  • @spokenlastchance

I've written before. There was only one point to my lyrics. Just like all other writers, I had an objective meaning to my writings. If someone were to read my lyrics and say, "this song might be about puppies," I couldn't say, "well, it's open to interpretation." I would correct the person and tell them what the lyrics were about.

In fact, my husband has asked Dustin what "The Arsonist" was about. Dustin gave one clear cut answer. He didn't say it was open to interpretation.

  • @downtoawhisper I think going from writing about a good moral compared to it being about puppies is a little stretch. I did however state that there is always a underlying meaning to a song, but the what it does and how you feel about it is in my opinion is open to interpretation. My entire comment was an opinion about it. I heard something the other day on a 30 seconds to mars video "Some people believe in god I believe in music some people pray I turn up the radio"

  • @downtoawhisper I cannot express in words what this song or this band has done for me. Everytime I hear this song it brings me to tears. My entire life I've been subjected to being an outcast of society, and listening to this song gives me the hope to endure it all and keep moving forward. It's not about religion to me it's about coming to peace with your life and being accepted among those who truly love you. Finding that place where you belong in life.

  • @spokenlastchance

Actually, this song is full of Scripture, as are many of Dustin's songs. For example, the Bible refers to the body of believers as "pilgrims" (Hebrews 11:13). Jesus said He had "nowhere to lay His head" (Matthew 8:20). Heaven is referred to as a place with "no more pain or tears" (Revelation 21:4). Dustin is singing about waiting on Heaven, his eternal home. There is no getting around all of the Scriptural references. It's the meaning...the only meaning.

  • @spokenlastchance downtoawhisper knows what their talking about. There are cases of absolute truth. An individual's define intent is one. The meaning that the writer of the lyrics portrays is pretty clear. Someone that is unaware of the references of course would take this in the wrong or vague direction. You also speak ignorantly when you express that all poetry and form of writing is open to interpretation. Who are you to decide the intent of a specific individual's creation?

  • @spokenlastchance Also, since when does someone have to write bluntly about what they're saying if they're speaking an absolute? That too is ignorant to say. You speak demand for art to be taken from those that have a true direction but don't make it perfectly obvious to everyone. Perhaps you should re-examen your perception of things. Yes some people write things artistically to be open to interpretation... not everyone.

  • @PlacidMist I'm just going to throw this out there first, but you are not the writer so you cannot fully say his intention or what he would think about how the song makes me feel. They are not a proclaimed Christian band. They do however do state that they personally are Christian. And you are welcome to your opinion I've never stated more in this message that it was an opinion. But I firmly disagree art is always open to the eyes of the beholder.

  • @spokenlastchance Often times when an art piece is created there is more than just images, textures, shapes, words, and sounds. There is the history that brought that piece/idea there. Whether it had been from personal experience, or it was attained from a source. Learning this history brings clarity and understanding to the individual that is examining the piece. I've listened to song and thought and felt one thing, then learned facts and thought and felt something new and different.

  • Because i had attained truth about that piece. If I had looked at "The LAST Supper" without knowing the references behind it, I would have probably made up a story of what I thought was going on. If someone explained to me the intricacies of the story behind it and I said, "Don't tell me what to think. To me it's this guys birthday, and that's special to me because birthday celebrations touch my heart.," then I wouldn't know the reality that the man in the middle was about to die.

  • A fool despises correction. If you just look at or listen to something and keep going by just how it makes you feel or think and not try and find out the true intention(s) behind what they created then... well... that's defined as shallow.

  • @PlacidMist Why would you define that as shallow. I think you need to catch up on some philosophy. This is a long time topic that many people hold different views on. You're holding a realist view on the topic where I hold a objective view. These are topics that have been beat to death for thousands of years. I cannot convince you and you will not sway me. So instead of why not just enjoy their music.

  • @spokenlastchance You're young. Aren't you?

  • @PlacidMist I'm curious to know what this has anything to do with this topic? I'm 21, but that has nothing to do with the structure of my argument. You have just committed a Fallacy. "Appeal to Tradition is a fallacy that occurs when it is assumed that something is better or correct simply because it is older, traditional, or "always has been done." I see no point in investing anymore time in a topic that's clearly being debated among scholars for thousands of years.

  • @PlacidMist And an arrogant douchebag thinks that they are the one to provide correction.

  • @PlacidMist The way a song makes you feel is different to every person, and that personal experience is what makes art so amazing. To deny that art is personal is to deny art itself in my book. When I see the first supper it doesn't matter that its about Jesus what matters is how the colors look in my eye how the expressions on your face set a mood.

  • Comment removed

  • @PlacidMist This is a silly discussion because I have no need to justify my point because its beyond clear to those with eyes to see, hands to feel, ears to hear, a nose to smell, and a tongue to taste. Our experiences are our own and what comes into our perception is ours. So even if there may be an reason behind something we have the choice to feel what we wish. That is part of being human. Art is about inspiring people not focusing them to feel what you want them to.

  • Hagan lo qe hagan lo hacen bien

  • this is by far my favorite song by them. either that or night diving.

  • My heart is filled with songs of forever... a city that endures where all is made new, i know i dont belong here. I'll never call this place my home, im just passin through...

If i could pick one song to represent my life and everything ive gone through, this would be the one.

  • And here we see one of the sad truths of the internet in its clearest: on any music video, no matter how excellent it is, as long as it even remotely mentions religion, it will spawn a long, overblown arguement over god that serves no purpose other than pissing everyone off. *sigh*

  • @rydthespiral

It's all about Jesus Christ my friend. Truth can be found Him, brother.

I was raised in an atheist's home & lived 25 years of my life not knowing God or being of any faith when I was MIRACULOUSLY SAVED and radically converted 15 months ago. It was a supernatural occurance.

I began reading the Bible... it is a LIVING WORD. It is the Truth in a world of LIES.

God bless Thrice for being a light in the darkness & sharing the light. Listen to Dustin Kensrue's "This Is War"

  • This song reminds me that it's okay to live in a sucky world.

  • @sw0rd0fadvers1ty

that made me laugh really hard. i feel you on that one.

  • it's sad you take a few pieces of lyric and try to turn an entire song into a whole "praise god dirka dirka." just annoying to see as a musician of 10 years and thrice fan.

  • Thrice is my favorite band, and I hate more than anything going to watch their videos and seeing all this bullshit about religion posted when they should be commenting on the band's music not fucking religion. I can't wait for years later when science discovers the real nature of our origin, so we can get past this religion bs.

  • @Emotive10 Because that made sense, anyone who believes there is no higher power is naive and angry at the world.

  • @Protesthedrummer7

ohh please don't make assumptions about non-believers or skeptics. I love this place, i just hate the people in charge.

  • @Protesthedrummer7

Stop making assumptions about agnostics, and atheists. I'm completely against religion, but it's not like I only see the negative side.

  • I've been with Thrice since 1998. I was age 10, still caught up in the generic sounds of mainstream bands. My older brother had a copy of the "First Impressions" EP from a friend who attended Irvine High. I enjoyed the sound of it, but never forlorned the actual Biblical or poetic approach the band would soon take with their career. Thank you Thrice, and thank you Dustin, for not only influencing and saving my life, but for being the beacon of hope and greatness in this decaying generation.

  • his voice makes me feel like he could sing me to my death and i'll die happy O:-) "no i don't belong here i'll never call this my home i'm just passin through"

  • @qwuam The cake is a lie.

  • @111BRAZ111 Nope, you get to celebrate after the last test chamber! ;p

  • Dustin Kensrue is a living GOD.

  • This song helps me through some of the worst times of my life. They sing how I feel. <3 Thank you, for helping me. This explains me.

  • These guys get better & BETTER every fucking time!

    This is just pure orgasmic.

  • such a great band with talent able to create any type of music they want ... so for that i support any song they make whether its slow or fast.

  • If this song was a cake, I would eat it.

  • @rydthespiral Without struggle there can be no questions. Without questions, why should we ask to believe? Everyone struggles with faith, that's what makes us human. Just remember the things you can think of that have blessed your life, and take strength from those thoughts and moments. But most of all, listen to your heart, because that's where God leaves the answers.

Awesomely simple song this is indeed.

  • These guys have come so far and evolved so much. It's incredible. Beautiful.

  • @rydthespiral This song has nothing to do with childish belief

  • @VulgarityDivine What about a childish comment?

  • @VulgarityDivine: You're a prick, and everyone on this board agrees.

  • @Walrusii Oh? I bet they do.

  • This song needs at least 1,000,000 views. Pure talent.

  • cool song

  • @rydthespiral I have no faith but find your comment has just as much worth as if I had. Really nicely put.

Also, please create a band and name it "Bombast and Banter".

  • found something special on this one.

  • awesome lyrics... seriously this guys are like poets

  • @menruuu Dustin is the man...

  • If thrice's music somehow manifested it's self into a women she would GET IT SO HARD.

  • @ThankyouGhost this made me laugh lols

  • @rydthespiral I totally agree with you.

    +1

  • My Super Psycho Sweet 16 OST =)

  • I'll never call this place my home, just passin through

  • And I agree It is hard to find faith in something other than yourself. You can't control the decisions people make, the actions they commit. We raise these leaders up to the highest throne, when really they are people like you and I. Thrice carries on the message even though they make decisions for us, "we are beggars all". We are all on the same playing field. We can help the world or lead to its destruction.

It's all up to the individual to stand up for what is right.

  • @rydthespiral very truthful statement. And I'm very surprised someone would lay down their inner most feelings on a website where so much hate, racist, and unacceptance in general, is tolerated.

  • Timeless

  • I don't entirely like this video based on the fact that Thrice usually has some really good music videos, and to me this one felt like they just, maybe not half-assed, but 3/4th assed this video. I don't know, maybe I just got overly excited to see this video.

  • The 3 people who hit dislike have clearly lost their capability to hear.

  • in love with Thrice ever since TAITA & nvr looked back .. well of 'cos I did went to get their earlier releases .

thumbs up & do keep up e gd work . =]

  • 3:27 gives me goosebumps every time.

  • @YuberSepiroth You obviously don't know good music faggot

  • One of my favorite songs by them. I saw it live too and it was incredible.

  • The perks of having teenaged sons!!.....like this!.....thanks L & J xx

  • Illusion of Safety is the best

    Beggars was weak

  • ALTERNATIVE LIVES!!!!!

  • There are 3 assholes in this world! The assholes who voted this vid negative!

  • i agree with mibvsyt1

  • A Thrice song can be up to 5 minutes and it still seems to not be long enough. That's telling you that their music is THAT good.

  • I hope it's okay that I've listened to this song about 30 times today. It's such an emotional and remarkable song.

  • how has this song only gotten 102,422 views? these guys kick ass

  • This was used in the TV movie, "My Super Psycho Sweet 16."

That's probably one of my favorite MTV movies ever!

  • @tenchi64589 YES IT WAS!!! i was bored and watched that at home one day and i started freaking out when this come came on during the credits!

  • I came into Thrice during the Illusion of Safety tour. It quickly became one of the seminal albums of my early adulthood. With that said Beggars is my favorite Thrice album. It combines the absolutely astonishing lyrics of Dustin Kensrue with the wonderful instrumentation of the rest of the band. Of that album Exile is my favorite song. I really can't explain how much I love this song. It really is amazing.

  • I cant describe how fucking awesome this band is.

  • I really wish they more music videos for this album. The ones from previous albums have all been really great. Beggars was probably their best musically though certainly lyrically. Long live Thrice.

  • hands down this is one of the few bands that can play to near perfection live. i know this vid isnt live but their live stuff sounds almost identical to their albums which is amazing..

  • The lyrics are amazing. Amazing how they're talking about going to heaven. and how they impact the world with this.

  • Honestly i would have to say that my albums go like this.

    Vheissu

    Beggars

    The alchemy index: Water

    Artist in the ambulance

    Rest of alchemy index

    Identity Crisis

    Illusion of safety

I hate these people who are like "I hate new thrice, i hate alchemy index, etc" honestly the alchemy index is just a little different, its almost got a higher learning curve sorta. But beggars is definitely more mainstream, so i would say i love new thrice, i love old thrice, i just love thrice overall!

  • @MasterDebator809 I totally agree, and I think I pretty much have the same order of favorite albums. However, I definitely would not call Beggars a more mainstream album. I haven't heard a single song off of it on the radio, and the style in most of the songs is nothing like the "mainstream". This song....maybe. But the album as a whole is much too deep and musically rich to ever fit the mainstream.

  • Its amazing how Thrice can make one album so different from the one before and yet its just as good. My fav band along with Coheed, Circa Survive, and Bayside.

  • @Reach711 You have Thrice COheed and Circa are some of my favs too. Im glad im not alone

  • My favorite song from Beggars by far. I don't think Thrice is even able to write a bad song.
