Wow!!! so much misinformation in the comments. The car in the video has a JDM 2jz-gte out of a 1998 and up Toyota aristo (like a lexus sc300 only turbo) The U.S. is300 has a 2jz-ge 3.0 liter inline six non turbo. you cannot EASILY swap a 2jz gte into the is300 unless it is a 1998 up twin turbo with vvti. stuff like oil pans and mounts match up. however. you can put 2jz-gte internals into a regular 2jz-ge and get close to the block strength of the factory supra..
@notorque. everything u said is correct about the is300 is right. however the engine is not an aristo/supra 2jz, that is a 1JZ-gte vvti from a chaser/mark 2. 206kw and 378ft/tq at 2400rm out of 2.5L in stock form, also lighter engine than the 2jz gte. very easy to make huge power out of (i think 600hp )without messing with internals. Its not an easy swap especially since the car in this vid probably came with a beams3S-GE or a beams1G-FE, which makes the electrics even harder to solve.
@vrifts- I think the big power needed to get the altezza to step out compared to relatively small figures needed from an ae86 is down to the altezza having independant rear suspension, where the sprinter is a solid axle. Im a toyota/lexus mechanic, but never done too much with ae86's, but its a big possible reason that springs to mind
na easy confusion.....the is200 in aust is a 2lt six, (1gfe), the is300 in Aust is a 3lt six (2jz-ge). The altezza in japan came out with the 1g-fe, or the 3s-fe (2lt 4cyl) or 3s-gte (2lt 4cyl turbo). i havent heard much about a factory 2jz car in japan, although im sure they exist in some shape or form. I have a is200, and im weighing up the options of a 2jz gte swap, or swapping for a is300 and just doing the mods. the is300 only came out with a sequential box, and i dont know if a supra fits
...altezza, not IS. this is the jdm version. look at the headlights, on the fender, the turn signal is behind the wheel instead of in front of it, the antenna is shorter, AND the steering wheel is on the RIGHT SIDE. this is ALTEZZA, not IS300. the IS is the us version of the altezza
drifting is sliding while still maintaining control which means steady and even traction is needed. with cars that are prone to breaking loose (losing traction all of a sudden or having trouble maintaining traction at high g's) in the rear wheels, a negative camber is used to keep it from spinning or shifting momentum too wide. sometimes negative camber is added to the front wheels on understeering cars. understeer makes for unwanted slip angles
Is it true that the short rear wheelbase affects the drifting capability of the Altezza? Like will it be more prone to snapbacks and spinouts due to this?
are you talking about track or wheelbase? there is no rear wheelbase. wheelbase is front to back while track is side to side. shorter wheelbase is better for drifting because of quicker, smoother, and more balanced weight transfer. i'm sure there's more reasons i'm forgetting. just look at the wheelbase on the ae86, silvia, and 350z. all short. as for track, i would think shorter would make for a looser tail. how do you know the is300 has a shorter than normal track? turning radius?
@vrifts well it looks like it but i was just saying based on its overall shape. don't bother bout that. haha. anw thanks for the informative clarification there. but what i'm more interested in is why ppl choose silvias, rx-7s and 86s over the altezza. lets take for instance in the D1GP, as far as my observations take me, i don't see any altezzas in the competition. is the altezza disadvantaged in some areas as compared to those cars?
rs200 body is said to be the successor to the ae86 and has a good chassis and balance for drifting but the 3sge is not so ideal. hard to build, not very stable, and weak. then the is300 was built and that just gained a whole bunch of weight and lost it's balance. i would assume that it's just too expensive and hard to build an altezza to drift and it's also fairly bulky and heavy compared to those cars you mentioned. and the altezza tends to curl because of height. that's all i can think of
maybe sponsorships play a factor because hks had a few altezzas a couple years back. i think the problem was that they needed so much power to drift. the hks is-220-r's were in the 560whp range. 3sgte's had to be stoked and boosted and that was probably really expensive and unstable for only 4 cyl. most of the other drift cars only need 300whp or less. another issue could be getting used to cars. older drifters got used to older cars while newer ones use newer. the middle is a generation gap
I can't understand a word he saying, but all I can see there is nothing left from original engine.i have a same lexus, and rims dealer sead that you can't put deep dish wheels on that car.....?!/!?!!//..deep dish in this video
You can put deep dish wheels on any car, you just have get the clearances correct and get wider fenders to accommodate the look. also, i suspect you are going to go with some kind of coil-over setup, which means you will have to realign everything. also, make sure you adjust your camber after you drop the thing.
lol - look at the top of the front tires smoke on every drift as they rub the fender. That shit is melted after that race. I love that kit, tho - Vertex baby. I gotta get it for mine.
the American IS 300 have a 2GZ-GE, same engine used in Mark IV Supra. Of course, we dont have a turbo but it makes around 215hp which is a good amount of power.
yea, its one of the last 2jz's to be made i think i could be wrong. i know a lot of people that still swap in the 2jzgte form the supra. i mean it makes since but not really. you can use that 2jz money along with the money to buy replacement turbos, and etc. and build a high power n/a 2jz with no lag. but these kids now a days, turbo this turbo that. ill be long gone before their turbos spool up lol
nah im kidding i love boost...but still truth to that.
@JzuS7th Actually in US its a IS300 and we have a 3.0L inline 6 non turbo N/A, not a 2jz. People usually swap to a 2jz. I know because my girlfriend had a 2003 lmao.. Maybe in Canada you guys have but Im not sure. My buddy goes up to Canada from Southern California to buy skylines and 240's off you guys cause there dirt cheap. But ehh what do i know hahahaha.
@tofulenny So IS300 in US are not 2JZ? i thought they were 2jzge? im still learning about them, i want a car with a 2jz but i dont want to go buy a supra or do a swag on a car. i had a 2001 C/H/I camaro ss but crashed it about two years ago, i sold the body but i still got the motor looking to sell it as well to start saving up for a IS.
@ElPinanator it is a 2jz. Just the N/A version = 2jz-ge. Turbo 2jz engines that you would find on turbo supras = 2jz-gte. It takes a lot more work & money to turbo a N/A is300. Easier to just swap a 2jz-gte short block into an is300 and boost it from there. A way easier route is to just save for a stock twin turbo supra and convert to big single turbo.
@mars231 honestly it would be cheaper to turbo the 2jz na. get a tt headgasket, something to tune and u can piece a turbo kit for cheaper than it would cost to get a 2jzgte and a single. unless your making a 600whp beast than the 2jzge vvti bottom end will hold. im currently 2jz na t swapping my mk3 supra right now and in the process of turboing my gs300.. gotta love boost
The IS300 won several grand am championships against the Ford Mustang GT in the latter's displacement class. Sounds like you should stick to 1/4 mile drag strips or ovals with turns in only one direction with that attitude.
I have one myself and its a 2JZ-GE engine Most of the IS300, which is a 3.0 L, come with that engine the IS200 came with a 1JZ-GE 2.0 L engine. Both are NA without turbos...JUST Put the turbo's from a supra and u be straight!!!! :-)
fuckin look it up dumbass, it's all over the internet, is300 forums or some shit, use ur fuckin brain. some people are so ignorant. all lexus 300 series came with 2jz fuckin look it up sherlock

The Altezza came with a 3S-GE or 1G-FE depending on the version AS200 or RS300.
The USDM comes with 2JZ-GE (no turbo 215hp)
The Car is my dream car, everyday I get in my IS300 and boost, I know there's no other car for me.
