@kenco124 yeah... as families go they are quite disfunctional... i dont think arthur ever realises morgana taught mordred to kill him. or that he was Mordreds father (in some versions)
It's nice all the different versions there are. the stories change over time, and you never know who will have what part. like most of the versions have her as the bad guy, and some don't. the same with Nimue. since Camelot never really existed except in stories its beautiful were different people go, and pointless to argue over different version. i think this is wonderful and beautiful.
Perfect ending!! That line sums up what Morgana/ Morgan/ Morgaine is... caring (in her own way), passionate, and kickass :-D
She is my favorite character in the Arthurian legends and Arthur/ Morgan is my favorite couple because their relationship (romantic or otherwise) is a complex, beautiful one <3 <3 <3 Great Job!!!
my favourite version is the one from marion zimmer - bradley because morgaine is good there in her own way.
then i also like the morgana from merlin because she is good for a long time, but i don't like morgan from the film merlin because she is evil the whole time...
Morgana and Morgan Le Fay are played by two stunning actors. What about Morgaine? I've never heard of her as in what that paticular character is from can someone shed some light?
Morgaine was portrayed by Juliana Marguiles in "The Mists Of Avalon", based on the novel by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It shows the Arthur story from her point of view, and how much of an infulence she had on his life. It's about how she tried to maintain the Celtic traditions of the Druids against the encroachment of Christianity, and was demonized for it. It also shows how Morgaine was Arthur's true love, and the reason his marriage to Gunivere failed, causing her to turn to Lancelot.
in a version i read morgan had a lover (thomas) whos beheaded, she then turns to the sorcerer ways and loses herself, and in another version i've read shes an evil lady intent on destryoing everything, theres alot of diff storys, its impossible to tell which is the true one.
in the version that I've read. Morganna is Arthur's half sister. As are Morganna's other sisters Elaine and Morgausse. Basicly- Arthur's parents were Uther Pendragon and the lady Igraine. Igraine's first husband was the Gorlois- the duke of Cornwall. Gorlois and Uther were mortal enemies. Uther asked Merlin to give him the appearence of Gorlois so that Igraine would think he was her husband. When they married- they had Arthur. In my version she's evil and intent on destroying Arthur
In my version, she's the love of Arthur's life, and the real reason his marriage to Guinivere failed. Just as Gwen loved Lancelot, Arthur loved Morgan, but she was forbidden to him because they were half-siblings. They were adversaries only because she tried to defend the Celtic religion, while Arthur had become more aligned with the Christian chruch. In most versions of the legend, Arthur and Morgan reconsile, and she takes his body to the isle of Avalon to be healed.
In some versions. In others she was good. Half the time it was another sister, Morgausse who gave birth and reared Mordred. That's the thing about Arthurian legend. There are hundreds of different versions.
you know shes supposed to be his half sister by thier mother though not in the bbc adaptation cos gweniere is his lover though she is hurt by this and the fact she cheats with lancelot and she tries to show him that, but shes supposed to bring his downfall with her son/ newphew mordrid
Did you know that most likely Morgan le fay was most likely not her name, because it was a boy name back then! Hee hee. Plus she is more known for Gawain's lover, never arthurs.
Never Arthur's lover? They only had a child together! Some legends say it was Morgause, but the two are often confused for one another. Besides, Marion Zimmer Bradley's "The Mists of Avalon" is the most popular version right now, I think. Arthur/Morgan became a pretty hot 'ship after that! As for what actually happened historically, it's probably all a bunch of legends blended together, but I think Morgan gets a bad rap. Bradley's version actually does make sense.
Well in Bradley's version, Arthur and Morgaine took part in a fertility ritual on the night of Beltaine(one of the Druid sabbaths) when they were just teenagers, and neither knew who the other was. Mordred was conceived on that night; Morgaine didn't plan it, nor did she intend on destroying Arthur's kingdom since he wasn't king yet. They were both shocked to find out each other's real identity, but by then Arthur had fallen for her, and she realized too late in the story that she loved him.
In the movie Merlin, Morgana use magic to fix her deformed face to become beautiful. Then tricked her half brother arthur, into making love to her, and mordred was conceived. See, there are a lot of versions.
Yes, but those versions were from Anglo-Saxon and Norman storytellers who demonized Morgan and the Celtic religion. Bradley's version is more in step with earlier Celtic mythology, in which Morgan is a Druid priestess. And in the majority of versions, Morgan reconsiles with Arthur and takes his dying body to Avalon to be healed.
Among the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London is the blunt-tipped sword called Curtana. It's carried in the procession at the Coronation to symbolize the Sovereign's power of mercy.
The original (destroyed by Cromwell) was supposed to be the sword given to the paladin Olgier the Dane by his godmother Morgaine le Fee. The tip broke off when Olgier tried to kill a defeated foe in vengeance.
There are alot of different versions, but in most of them Arthur is wounded in battle and Morgana takes him to Avalon to heal him and they stay there together forever.
in some people say though that originally they were different people (morgan le fay and arthurs sister...) i don't remember exactly but there is alot of veersions/evidence which shows they were infact different people....
I read somewhere that arthur had three half sisters, Morgan le fay, Morgawse, and Elaine (aka Blasine). And that Mirgawse was the one he had Mordred with. There is also a version where Mordred isn't even his son but Modred is his half brother, kind of taking Morgan Le fay's evil place in the legend. Honestly there is so much different versions, its basically just take it how you want it. But either way Morgan will always be one of my favorite characters, good or evil.
Morgana is my favourite character in the Arthurian myth fior better and for worse because she's strong, indipendent and powerful and I like all the way she's portraited in different movies
Morgan le Fay is also one of my favorite characters. Most folk don't know that, in the Arthurian legends, her main problem was NOT with Arthur, but with Guinevere.
In fact, Arthur was her half-brother and though they had several, uh, arguments, she later reconciled and even helped to carry his body to Avalon.
She is a wonderful character full of strength and passion!
Sorry did not see your question till just now. I will investigate and get back to you a good list of things to read. It should not be too long as I will attempt to deal only with Guinevere and Morgan and not the other characters :)
Thank you for this!, it's nice to see all the many incarnations rolled together neatly in one video. She'll always be my favorite Arthurian myth character of all time after Arthur himself.

Gawain's lover was ragnell, not Morgan.
Morgan's lovers were Arthur, Uriens, Accolo, sometimes Guyomar, and Arthur.
