I've been doing neck work now for a couple of months and I have to say these videos are really inspiring me. I have a question though. Is is better to start a neck workout training the front of the neck, as shown here, and then hit the back? Or should you start with the back and then hit the front? Would the type of resistance used make any difference or if the neck has been pre-exhausted by doing shrugs or deads? Just want to mke sure I'm doing it right, and obviously you're doing it right lol.
@rottenparts I personally don't have a preferance on what part of the neck to work first. I always start with my weak side first. This is so I can build it up to my stronger areas. Yes if you shrug/dead first you will not be as strong due to the traps being "blown up"
Find what works for you and go from there. Good questions.
@panamanian99 It is up to you, I prefer back days. Either muscle group is fine. If you are a complete beginner I suggest 3 sets of 10-20 reps per exercise. Your neck will get very stiff and sore.
@machinelandtv The exercises just look stupid. I get enough shoulder/neck stimulation on shoulder days without having to do these silly exercises but maybe this is for a purpose for boxing or some other activity then maybe this would be useful. For purely aesthetics, its pointless and you'll just look like a fool in the gym
@MrCreamyBiceps Wrong. This might be true for you, but not for everyone.
This was not true for me. So you know what was silly? My pencil neck. I had a skinny next and it never developed proportionate to the rest of my body, despite from doing deadlifts, shoulder and trap training.
Therefore, I had to isolate my neck training for it to respond, and I had to do it for 'aesthetics' as you put it.
Plenty of guys seem to have naturally proportionate necks, but not all of us!
@machinelandtv Ok. Obviously you know what your doing it just seems like the ROM and bouncing could injure someones neck easily. You have a very strong neck and have worked up to it but beginners should take it easy at first and have more control wouldn't you say? When i do the head harness i have to be carefull with the ROM and form. I've got the Ironmind headstrap it's great! Thanks for the videos and the reply.
@unlockthepower It depends on what your going for: if you just want a big neck and to look good for vanity purposes then yes, you are correct it is better to go with a fluid range of motion and with more control. I am a wrestler so I try and implement what I will expreience in the ring/mat. In this situation your neck/head is going to be pulled from all different angles and with force. Very good response and comment. Thanks for watching. Much success to you.
Nobody is gunna catch you in a can opener lol. Thanks a lot after seeing your videos I got the neck harness and been trying them. You are right it will improve submission defence & in time maybe even punch defence.
@dragonninjaism Thankfully I have not been tapped out to a can opener. Yes a strong neck will help you in your defense to being choked and crossfaced. A strong neck is a must for any grappling.
@DanielTirari right on daniel happy holiday to you as well. if you have any other questions just ask. If your really interested in the neck/traps have you seen my TNT Neck training dvd?
yes you can build the neck muscles very well with a 3 day per week workout. I train my neck everyday. It depends on what your goals are. If you want more mass make sure you are taking in more calories than you are burning off. Protect your neck my friend, pencil necks aren't cool brother. LOL

When do I do these exercises, with shoulder or back exercises? As a beginner how many sets and reps should I do?

@MrCreamyBiceps
If all your worried about is how you look while performing an exercise then you probably shouldn't be working your neck.

I love your vids, I do have a question: How can you make your neck become more muscled instead of just working on its strength?
Johnyboy25 6 months ago
@Johnyboy25 Sorry to say but in my opinion you cannot. Your going to gain in both areas. Glad you stop by and check out the videos.

theres not very much extension in the neck, almost like a mid back shrug, the neck should flex and extend through a fuller ROM in my opinion

Thanks for the comment, to learn why I am working my neck in this ROM I suggest you order my TNT neck training dvd.
I cover everything I have done to build a 20" neck @210lbs.
Keep the Faith.
