please check out my story of my life living with ADHD, High Autisic levels, Dyslexia, Disgraphia, aspergers syndrome and where I am Now. I hope to inspire people
from my own experience alternative treatments dont work for crap, medication is probably the only thing that works, but when im on it i just dont feel like myself, kind of like my soul is just pulled right out of me. people say "oh your lucky your all hyped up on stimulants all day blah blah" i dont need stimulants, my brain is already stimulated all the time and medicine makes me not stimulated. now im screwed probably for life school is like trying to fly it just cant be done without help
I was diagnosed with ADHD in the fifth grade and now i'm a junior and now still struggle with ADHD. I always hope that scientists will find a cure or i will grow out of it. At the same time it has shaped me to be the person i am today. Even though i can't sit still for more than 10-15 seconds and thoughts are always running through my head, it has created my creative and enthusiastic brain. At first when the doctor told me i had ADHD and there was no cure i was shocked. now I have accepted it!
All in all, I have found marijuana to be far more effective at controlling both my ADHD and tourettes than any prescribed drugs.
Side effects ritalin gave me: sleeplessness, lack of appetite, visual+audial hallucinations, constant diorreah, palpitations, overexcertion, a government-sponsored 18 month stimulant addiction and all the stereotyped cocaine/amphetamine symptoms, including always looking overworn, like you havent had any sleep for a week.
What a talented, creative, funny and sweet boy. This was such an inspirational video to show that although ADHD is a challenge, it does not have to ruin or destroy lives. Such a sense of humor too. I'm sure we will see great things from this boy!

Unfortunately I had ADHD in the late 70's so therefore I was an (out of control child). My mind would wander no matter how much I tried to focus. The teachers finally gave up on me and eventually I gave up on myself. I live a modest life now but I sometimes imagine how better off I would have been if I could have been medicated,so for all of you who want to put down medicine you dont know what you are talking about. My son has ADHD and cant function properly without medicine.God bless you all.
Brad i also have adhd.its exlmerly hard 4 me.at home and at school.Having an active imaginations are very good.I had a teacher[{4 2 years and i loved her] she really helped me and she still does.
Thats the problem with of people in modern society: they think there is a "normality". they think you can study people, take an average out from it an everything that abberates from it and desturbs theyr clean, simple, uncomplex world sets them in fear and concern. It makes me sad to see how people drown in theyr own prejudices, not realizing what individuality means. They see something that doesn't fit in theyr world viwew, and refuse it like an animal seeing fire first time! (excuse my english
Brad, I also have ADHD. The trick is to find something your very passionate about and pursue it. ADD and OCD seem to come in the same basket. Im a high school drop out and a member of Mensa with an IQ of 151. Just keep at it and you'll go far. With any luck you'll make it through high school.
i have ADHD i get something caleld strattera im in scotland and here ADHD is frowned apon, because of my ADHD im not aloud in certain activities such as paintball football (soccer) or rugby :( im 13
in my country there is NO adhd, we call this being lazy and spoiled.. teach ur kid a lesson, give him a couple of smacks, and see if it doesn't pay more attention in class..
you americans think cuz ur kid doesn't study that it is a disease. and you put AMPHETAMINES in his young and HEALTHY body..
@DarkoMFS Try actually having ADHD, try being in a country that *doesnt* overdiagnose it like in the USA (half the cases there are faked or misdiagnosed)
Learning how to control my ADHD *without* meds has been key to my success as a restauranteur.
ADHD however is clearly an existant condition and has a STRONG genetic link. You can follow it all the way up my family, it's incredibly obvious in my dad's bloodline.
So... what's wrong with this kid? One things for certain the board of directors at whatever drug company for the drug he's taking are definitely cheering him on.
@TuanFrom20 you say that until you have to deal with them on a daily basis. The constant, never-ending energy, the fits, forever talking, getting into things, breaking things, doing things no-body in their right mind would do. There is over activity, and then there's ADHD.
Wow, you people are amazingly ignorant about adhd. There is a clear understanding int he medical community of what it is (signals/nerves in the brain firing too much or not enough) and how it is treated. Thinking it is "imaginary" or a "gift" or it should not be treated with drugs is cruel and ignorant. You need to read. That is the equivelant ignorance of telling a parent with a child that has leukemia that it is natural and just part of genetic variety.
"Then, as I continued to research, I found the Feingold Association. As I read their website, and the success stories of people who have used the program, I was stunned.... Every single one of Sophie’s symptoms could be explained by one word – petroleum. Sophie didn’t have ADHD, she had a chemical sensitivity to all the artificial ingredients in her food!" ourfamilyeatsdotcom
I'm 12 and I have ADHD. My dad put me on this medicen and I hate it sometimes. I get really awesome grades when im on the medicine but im always so depressed. and when not on the medicne im so happy and eveyone else around me just hates it! its no fair!
For every kid in school labeled ADD and given an IEP, the school get TONS of money! You don't give a child with a great imagination a pill, you give them a pen and paper!
Brad is not on an IEP. My other son is though, and the school needs the money to help children on IEP's. No Child Left Behind... My son on the IEP is thriving on his IEP, with help, like academic support and preteaching of skills, he is able to succeed and get 3 A's and 2 B's.
Special classes? you mean special ed? ESE? The kid isn't being challenge. No wonder hes getting good grades because the work that hes getting is baby work. This kid doesn't need to be on drugs either. It's a shame really.
Brad is not on an IEP or in special classes. He is actually in advanced classes. He did have a tutor outside of school that helped him with executive functioning issues, like organizing his ideas and thoughts.
LMAO, THERE AINT NO SUCH THING AS ADD/ADHD! eVERYONE IS BORN WITH THEIR OWN METHOD OF LEARNING. SOME PEOPLE ARE VERY ATTENTIVE WHILE OTHERS COULD SIMPLY CARE LESS. IT AINT ADHD! ITS BEING A HUMAN BEING. GODDAMNIT. ADD IS A MYTH!
AD/HD is a series of disconnected nerve endings, not a state of mind. Therefore, the existence of AD/HD is VERY possible. Unless you have experienced AD/HD yourself, you don't know what it is. How about you go Google it?
@playstationextremist I have ADHD and it is not a myth I have had so much trouble my entire life concentrating and behaving my parents didn't know what was wrong with me until the doctor figured out what was wrong with me. I will admit that especially in the US ADHD is way too over diagnosed and 95% of all ritalin worldwide is used there coincidence I think not. I wrote a paper about it and its effects ffor my Biology extended project. But unless you have it or lived with it you can't judge.
I do not know whether I have adhd or not but I know my mind is sometimes like an empty bag of sand, the bottom has fallen through and the contents have scattered. I become an obtuse, dense individual reaching unbelievable pinnacles of ignorance and stupidity.
What is left of my thoughts whizz about in my brain as if it particles of hot gas, beyond the ability to quantify and classify. An idea grasped and utilised can be very helpful so the inability to do so makes me feel beyond use.
I have ADHD and its not fun in life sometimes. I have lots of trouble paying attention in classes when the teacher talks more and I still have trouble to when the teacher talks less. But I also have a bad reputation on homework on not having the tasks complete. I sometimes act with out thinking(one of the bad things in ADHD) and teachers always ask why did I do it and I'll say I don't no. They'll also give me lunch detention sometimes if I fidget too much(another thing that is bad about ADHD).
i think every kid does not like to do homework! wether they have add or not, most kids are hyper when young its normal! Its kind of like comparing a puppy to a child. dogs are very hyper when young, but when they mature they become calm.... (i hope this makes sense. lol)
@JNJhealth There's definitely something to be said about how bad YouTube videos without proper subtitles can be for deaf people though! Also, I feel like I should contribute a meaningful comment after all. ADHD, unfortunately, is not attention DEFICIT, it's attention OVERLOAD! As part of the learning process, people who have ADHD can't filter out the things they don't need to remember, which is really tough! Still, ADHD people are some of the most creative people I've met! Normal folk = boring!
To all of you saying this kid is "normal". DUH! Adhd people are normal. They just have a different outlook on life and internal feelings. but who doesn't??? I have adhd and when i was his age i was constantly disruptive in class and talking to other kids and drumming on my desk but to me it was just boring to listen to the teacher. It really is hard to explain the way an adhd person "works", ESPECIALLY since i have it. The only way to understand adhd is to simply expand your knowledge about it.
he is adorable! i love when he was taling about writing an essay on glasses and said he would be thinking about wolves eating cabbage at a dinner table<3 he is precious. u can tell he is quite a smart kid
If you have an autistic person in your life you need to watch this amazing story. It will give you hope and happiness . This is a story written by Barb Rentenbach who was discovered to have autism at the age of 2. In her words she said that those around her looked at her as retarded and she even believed it until many years later she was given a keyboard . She is now 36 and has 2 books in publication . She has touched my life and I hope she touches yours . look for Barb Rentenbach on youtube.
My 8 years old has ADHD as well and she too is so artistic and has been since a very young age. She can mirror write her name at the same time with both hands.
It is so hard for her to stay on task sometimes but we are both learning how to cope with this disorder. What kind of special classes is Brad in?
Vyvanse is what works for me . everything used to make me Angry and unorganized . i had such bad grades but i knew i was smart. So i Thank vyvanse for my A+.
I am A instrument machine., no idea how , i pick it up and play it.
Adhd is by far one of the wierdest brain disorder i have learned about. This shows how even if you have a brain issue, you can still , definatley be something great. Look at the maroon 5 singer.
I have ADHD and I was prescribed with Adderall, Dexedrine and Ritalin throughout my childhood. I was placed in a specialized school and I really see alot of myself in this kid
I have ADHD I would just assume that I just think in differently than others nothing more. I got into a specialized school with children who in my opinion no more different than I. I think people exaggerate on these things too much
I have ADHD and I don't think there's anything wrong with me. To me I see nothing wrong with me. Yes I can barely focus on one thing for more than a few minutes before I need to do something else but I would think that everyone is like that. I don't think there's anything wrong with me in my opinion I think there's something wrong with the person who thinks there's something wrong with me
You're right, but AD/HD is more than just having active imaginations. The drugs are a good temporary boost for concentration, but they should not become dependent on them for the rest of their lives.
The problem with "illnesses" (i use that term very loosely :p) like ADHD, is their symptoms are applicable to pretty much anyone you might encounter. True, some people have a better ability to focus, but in general I find the general rule is, if something is not interesting, you won't pay attention, much less remember it. Remember, the memory is VERY selective! I was also diagnosed with a hyperactivity disorder in my youth, and prescribed ritalin.
This kid is a lot like myself when I was his age, which isn't surprising, as I have ADHD as well. I'd be able to give huge stories about stuff I like, but have a hard time sitting down and reading assigned reading for school. Thankfully, something got done just before Senior year of high school. After medication and therapy, I really really really calmed down and stopped hiding in my room all day.
I got ADHD,Bipolar also does my best friend.. she means the world to me but sometimes... i can't work with her... miss the old her and miss the old me.
i have aspergers and i may have adhd aswell because i use to be very bad in school
but trying to improve. i have iq of 192 and remember nearly every single thing about computer's and there parts such as video card, motherbored ,ram, 500w fans.
most of the time people dont even know waht the hell im talking about. i also hate homework never realy did any of it. i also have intrests and talents in engeeniring, physics, art,
Let's get real, ADD and ADHD meds are speed period. Giving your kid meth would land you in jail, unless your doctor prescribes it . In fact some studies show many meth addicts started using meth when they could no longer score Ritalin. Ritalin is a major party drug of choice in San Francisco's gay night clubs, but hey it must be healthy for kids right ? Otherwise why would billion dollar profit based companies pay doctors to prescribe it ?
@MindofaJedi I take Concerta and I get really hyper right after I take it then I calm down and then about 2 hours later, I get really bad headaches! It affects my appetite but I still eat later on! I am more picky when it comes to food. I sometimes am more angry at my friends for no reason! Sometimes I'm fine. I feel depressed without my meds for some reason and I eat A LOT without my meds and that's a good thing because I am pretty skinny (normal size). I am 12
Do I have ADHD? I have no problem paying attention to people, in school, doing homework, and studying for a test. However, I have problems paying attention sitting through a movie, and TV show. I can only read a paragraph or two from short articles. Does anyone on here think I have it?
I have ADHD as well, I wasn't so much as fidgeting and enable to sit still, it was that I talked nonstop, I lose focus in something, and I always daydreamed or thought about something else, rather than what I should be doing in school. I have a vivid imagination too, I like to write. People who have ADHD just can't pay attention in things they're not enjoying, in math, I didn't pay any attention in math, I struggled and got bored with tests very easily, it didn't hold intrest so I doodled.
@123Cripes wtf man, that is exactly how i was when i was a kid and still how i am now, i doubt you have ADHD, persue what you love to do, you may become a great writer. watch "Apple Think Different" all those people would be diagnosed with ADHD just because they think, learn and do things different. There are people with real ADHD but the category is so broad that 90% of people could be put into it.
This a kid, probably like yourself, who has tremmendous support and connectivity in their lives. It's those who do not, that who suffer the delayed consequences of ADHD and/or those of the co-occurring issues such as depression, anxiety, ODD etc. If it weren't for the support of the information and research on ADHD, my son would be in a worse place or even possibly dead. Depression isn't only something that occurs to traumatized people. I agree ADHD is not a liability.
With my ADHD I don't pay attention to thinqs. Somebody might be talkinq to me and I'm just zoned out so they have to repeat what they said all over again. I also have trouble payinq attention on class. The only way I can oay attention is if I force it and try my best to pay attention. But if I don't try to pay attention, I completely don't pay attention. I'm disracted, I'd say 2/5 minutes I'm distracted. Also my patience is low. I was diagnosed when I was 12...
I got diagnosed with ADHD when I was 9 years old. I find it hard to concentrate, stay on task and I have a really bad temper. The medication for me was horrible and tired me out. I also have trouble reading and writing, and I have speech problems. People who say ADHD and ADD is a myth and does not exist can think again.
and hey. i also find it so difficult to focus in anything. i tend not to listen to people and would rather want to daydream about how things should happen. this is really difficult right now cause I'm already in college. Im turning 17 but then i feel like i'm still in my pre teen years. am i sick? huh? or just a lazy brat?? oh, and hey, my head starts to hurt if i think too much.. :/
@soulfie OMG THAT HAPPENS TO ME TO lol i am in college im supposed to be a sophmore but Idin't do to well. I would so rathe daydream on wha should happen or how I think it should go if I dont like it my head hurts if I think about to many things at once lol
Everything this kid says about himself describes me perfectly. Except it's more like 2-5 minutes of "forced"attention for me. People think AD/HD is fake because we can focus on things we like. The problem is that focusing on things we like is completely effortless. Focusing on a conversation that I'm forced to be a part of (lectured by parents), or forcing me to listen to a 1 hour monologue (a class) gets progressively harder. It's like trying to carry an ever increasing pile of books...
@mostliberal I have ADD or maybe even ADHD. It's really, really difficult in school. My parents ignore it though and say I'm completely fine because I'm capable of focusing on video games, drawing and other stuff I like without a problem.
I don't want any medication. I like the having that disorder mostly, but I'd just want my parents to understand why I have such difficulties focusing on homework, lessons and tests.
I was diagnosed with ADHD and ADD in 5th grade when I couldn't sit still or work and I got REAL angry at stuff so little. It seems fake to me. They made me take drugs which were HORRIBLE! They gave me stomach pains, tired me out and gave me flu like symptoms. My Parents always refuse I have it because they don't want me on drugs. I am a teenager now and I still play with LEGOS and I have a huge imagination., and I cannot talk and look out a window XD. But I still think it is fake.
@Gleekster1992 a.d.d is attention deficit disorder add is practically when you forget thing alot you cant focus you have a short fuse and pretty much is impossible to learn in school adhd is when your more hyper and talkitive there almost the same thing but adhd means your pretty much more talkitive
To everyone that thinks that ADD/ADHD does not exist, think again. It is a very real disorder. I have ADD and had ADHD as a kid. You are easily distracted, you can't keep track of things, you forget things all the time, your thoughts are scrambled, you can't focus on one thing at a time. So if it does not exist, and is not a real disorder, then why can some kids focus and some kids not and why do all kids diagnosed with ADHD grow up to have ADD, because it is a physical disorder in the brain.
@bottlecapman213 You can, it's just harder. My brother has ADHD(we're twins, go figure)and he has trouble with homework. It's not that you can't just jsut takes a bit more time for one's brain to process a difficult problem.
@bottlecapman213 no its really really hard if you try to pay attention you just zone out you can focus on things you like to do but when it comes to boring things like school you just cant help it.
@hottdylan1993 if its fake or whatever why do people or children have such a difficult time focusing on whats in front of them get bored easily or can't do the task in front of them. Now if I could learn how to focus I would be so happy if only I could sit down and do what it is I need to do if only knowing how to focus was only in my head. if you could help me go ahead please because I am having such a hard time.
Attention deficit doesn't even exist, and is stupid to say that the greatest musicians or inventors had ADHD when psicology didn't even existed. I'm sick of these psychiatrists labeling every child they see. I feel sorry for the kids, they are just normal.
As a teacher and someone who was labeled ADHD before, I feel that he might not be. A lot of boys, honestly I believe majority of boys are mislabeled with ADHD. I ended up learning I have Aspergers. I am going for my doctorate now. I wish you and your son the best of luck, I just believe in always getting a second opinion. Remember 20% of teachers on avg make 80% of the referrals and not always for a good hearted reason.
wow this kid is exactly like what i was when i was his age, i loved lego how things worked and all that used to get really good grades, but it was a bit harder to concentrate but school was so easy then it didnt matter but since grade 12 i have noticed the effects and just now got diagnosed with adhd...apparently my brain found ways to compensate for being adhd so people never could tell i had it
ADHD is real, and much less common than society believes (everyone now adays thinks they have ADD, when they really don't). Although not a proven test, a good way to test if you have ADD is to drink coffee. For people with ADHD, coffee has the complete opposite effect: It actually makes us calmer, whereas with normal people coffee tends to make them feel more energetic.
I am good at math, it's my favorite. My score of national exam is good too. But it's hard for me to pay attention in class and always forget bout homework. I love daydreaming. I always forget about what should I do. Uncomplted my works and only do what i want to do. don't care about appearance. Sloppy. Talkative. Blurts the word without thinking. Hurting myself when I'm angry. And don't like sitting in one place. And I am intuitive, I play piano and guitar autodidact. Good at drawing. Am I ADHD?
It's not a defect, they just focus on what is interesting and what they enjoy doing. It's natural and a sign of intelligence, creativity and autonomy.
It's not we have trouble concentrating, just hard to concentrate on things that don't interest you at all! Things you are interested in and enjoy doing, you can do something great with it, and live an successful life, don't let anyone tell you else wise.
@xxTheCatsMeow I TOTALLY believe this. I HATE focusing in my math class, so I purposely fall asleep, whereas in English, I try my hardest not to doze off even on my sleepiest days.
My 7 year old son has both ADD and ADHD. He's very smart in school but, before we knew what he had...a few years ago he tried to kill his then 1 yr old sister...he has hit me bitten me ect. he's doing very good in school now and is a head of his class. he has his moments but, on the days he don't he's pretty good.....i just wish that there is something out there that would help the parents out with kids who has this..
@theresa27100 "a few years ago he tried to kill his then 1 yr old sister...he has hit me bitten me ect."
ADHD does not cause this behaviour. Lots of children bite people when they are exited but conscious attempts at grievious harm to others is suspect and has nothing to do with ADHD. Thats not to say your child does not have ADHD but be careful to seperate the ADHD from the rest...
That kid is very lucky to have such understanding and supportive family, i wish i had that when i was 12, im 36 now and i have ADD, my life is hell. im stuck in the bottom!!! every 1 around me thinks that something is wrong with me and im so lazyyyyy. whole my life i have been pushed away by every 1. I was beaten by my teachers, father, mother and others just because i was so "energetic" and could not sit quite in some corner.
Im really ADHD. I can control myself in class but I dont pay attention, and I dont even pay attention when people are talking to me. I loose everything.I cant focus on anything for more than 6 minutes. but I can focus on drawing. thats really it. I don't take ritalin, I think ADHD is part of my personality.
@ElizabethTucker901 I am the same as you, except i cant control myself in class. I can focus on computers. The medication made me depressed, sad, sick, and in pain. I still struggle constantly. I am 13 and going to see a specialist in a few days. This is making me feel great about myself thank you.
It's not about doing the work. Sure work sucks but we all have to do it. It's the painful anxiety leading up to the work..then the frustration kicks in. The symptoms of ADHD/ADD are normal human things but intensified and exaggerated by the brain. Yeah Homework sucks...but it can be a nightmare to anyone with ADD.
@tara6692 its not that simple, when you have ADHD it's much more complex. My son has ADHD and I sit with him when he does his homework, it could take 30 mins & other times it takes 2-3 hours. Also, when you have ADHD you excell at the subjects that you are interested in and need extra time to concentrate on the other subjects. It feels as though you get overwhelmed when looking at your homework and your mind gets distracted by the thought of doing something that you havent mastered yet.
Thank you for your video young man! My son has ADHD and possible Aspergers syndrome, its a Autism spectrum disorder (2 totally diff things). He has an obsession with LEGOS as well!! This reminded me of his bedroom actually. My son is 6 and has been thrown out of school already twice. Thanks for sharing ur story
That is just my youth. Go lego's they will help you. :P still love lego @28. only thing i hope is that my baby doesn't have add or adhd. Go kid get your future. Do it and do it now is my wisdom.
if brad can make lego , why can`t he do hes home work? because hes bored and doesn`t find it fun ,any child doesn`t want to do homework all you need to do is sit down and go througth it with him , and punish him when he mucks up instead of drugging him up
please check out my story of my life living with ADHD, High Autisic levels, Dyslexia, Disgraphia, aspergers syndrome and where I am Now. I hope to inspire people

@mssaxle Seriously think twice when it comes to meds.
They turn you into a superhuman. Your body seriously cannot keep up with it.
I took as little as 1/4 the amount I was being prescribed.
I had just about every single symptom of a cocaine addict, which ritalin is the most similar to.
Getting off the stuff was one of the hardest things I've done.
It's POTENT, addictive, energy and confidence in a pill - and too much of it.
And you get it for free.
Been off ritalin for 14 months now.

in my country there is NO adhd, we call this being lazy and spoiled.. teach ur kid a lesson, give him a couple of smacks, and see if it doesn't pay more attention in class..
you americans think cuz ur kid doesn't study that it is a disease. and you put AMPHETAMINES in his young and HEALTHY body..
great choice!

90% of true adhd cases are caused by genetics

TuanFrom20 1 month ago
@TuanFrom20 you say that until you have to deal with them on a daily basis. The constant, never-ending energy, the fits, forever talking, getting into things, breaking things, doing things no-body in their right mind would do. There is over activity, and then there's ADHD.
sexxyperv 1 month ago
Wow, you people are amazingly ignorant about adhd. There is a clear understanding int he medical community of what it is (signals/nerves in the brain firing too much or not enough) and how it is treated. Thinking it is "imaginary" or a "gift" or it should not be treated with drugs is cruel and ignorant. You need to read. That is the equivelant ignorance of telling a parent with a child that has leukemia that it is natural and just part of genetic variety.

For every kid in school labeled ADD and given an IEP, the school get TONS of money! You don't give a child with a great imagination a pill, you give them a pen and paper!
rainyseason1975 2 months ago
@rainyseason1975
Brad is not on an IEP. My other son is though, and the school needs the money to help children on IEP's. No Child Left Behind... My son on the IEP is thriving on his IEP, with help, like academic support and preteaching of skills, he is able to succeed and get 3 A's and 2 B's.

As part of the learning process, people who have ADHD can't filter out the things they don't need to remember, which is really tough! Still, ADHD people are some of the most creative people I've met!

I have ADHD as well, I wasn't so much as fidgeting and enable to sit still, it was that I talked nonstop, I lose focus in something, and I always daydreamed or thought about something else, rather than what I should be doing in school. I have a vivid imagination too, I like to write. People who have ADHD just can't pay attention in things they're not enjoying, in math, I didn't pay any attention in math, I struggled and got bored with tests very easily, it didn't hold intrest so I doodled.

@ElizabethTucker901 I am the same as you, except i cant control myself in class. I can focus on computers. The medication made me depressed, sad, sick, and in pain. I still struggle constantly. I am 13 and going to see a specialist in a few days. This is making me feel great about myself thank you.

adhd is fake, I don't see anything wrong with him except he is like every kid who can't concentrate on homework..

@smacktalking lol so true and lets face it, we all have that truble, it is homework afterall

@Melkiyad

It feels as though you get overwhelmed when looking at your homework and your mind gets distracted by the thought of doing something that you havent mastered yet.

if brad can make lego , why can`t he do hes home work? because hes bored and doesn`t find it fun ,any child doesn`t want to do homework all you need to do is sit down and go througth it with him , and punish him when he mucks up instead of drugging him up
