  • Is the narrator in this doc the guy who does the voice over for medal of honor original when your in the briefing room ?

  • While the idea of merchantmen being sunk is repugnant to many of us, it must be said that America did the same in the Pacific. It's just how submarine warfare was conducted. It has been truthfully said that "War is hell". I hope we never have to face war on such a scale again.

  • motherfucker nazi

  • 5:51 - some stunning revelations.

  • the way America operates

  • "Stars and Stripes Forever?" Interesting

  • I'm German and my grandfather served on a U-Boat. He never returned. War teaches us a lesson: In war good people die. Everyone can become a victim. Those who start wars stay behind the battle lines where it is save. Let us keept that in mind. I salute the brave souls on both sides who have fallen for their country, and I curse those who threw these lives away to satisfy their greed and lust for power.

  • Lend/Lease! weve only just paid it off in 2007.

  • do u boat really propelled by electricity under the water?? or diesel??

  • diesal on the surface, you had to vent the exhaust. Battery under water. The uboat had to surface after so many hours and run the diesels to recharge the battery.

  • some also were equipped with snorkels to operate the diesel underneath the surface later on.

  • Electricity underwater, diesel above it.

  • electricity underwater, diesel on surface

  • Electricity. If u use diesel engines submerged, you will suffocate becouse the diesels needs air.

  • "There was no drinking on the submarine" -- LOL whom do you have to fool now; the war's over for 65 yrs. now! Doenitz won't demote you for binge drinking on your watch ... XD

  • The first order of any war mongering state is to enlist the will of its subjects; and we all know that the only way to this is to convince them of the correctness and necessity of their actions. They always consider themselves as the "just" or "good" force in a conflict. Nazi's often portrayed their enemies as savage humans out to murder all Germans. We saw the success of this strategy quite recently in the USA, after the 9/11 developments.

  • The more I learn, the more similarities I see between the ancient Egypt, Rome, British Empire, Nazi Germany, and finally the USA. They all considered them selves a higher order of humans, enlisted slaves, and developed highly effective propaganda tools. To some degree, their organizational abilities did warrant that, however, the personal sacrifices endured, for the "good" of the select few were what brought, and will bring down, all the involved.

  • I actually like these documentaries by BBC, they are straight to the point and tell both sides of the story. Not like Discovery where they tell how all Germans are Nazis and all they do is exterminate Jews. Watching this makes me realize not all Germans in WW2 are the evil type of people

  • @SuperGreenHulk I reckon!

They're not like Discovery or History Channel media (or CNN for that matter) where the information tends to be very much from one party. Regardless of who wins/loses or who's right/wrong, both sides of the story should be told and made known instead of the biased bull seen and heard these days.

  • @SuperGreenHulk yeah... good point. The only germans that deserved to die were Hitler and his crew of advisors. These submarineers were just fighting to stay alive.

  • @Topher56ify Полностью согласен.Они просто были солдатами ,и боролись за жизнь.При этом уничтожая противника.Но войну развязали не они...

  • @SuperGreenHulk I agree with your post but remember that the German U-boat fleet had the highest number of Nazi party members of any german military branch during the war. Basically everyone was a nazi. Not that it makes any difference. They were people too.

  • @SuperGreenHulk American ''documentaries'' can be extremely one sided and simplistic. If you have ever seen American docus that deal with ww2 in the pacific you would think Japans main tactic was the suicidal banzai charge and they couldn't hit a hay barn at 20 yards.

  • the narrators voice reminds me of the voice on the very frist game of medal of honor on the playstation, man i loved the game.

  • This series is a good educational group of videos. It seems it is the hard truth of war.

Not very nice but usable in future interactions.

  • I thank you for posting this but were is the rest of the series there's two more video's in this series. I've seen them before and I would like to see them again. If you have them could you please post them. I had them on VHS once but they were only copies and they are now old and don't work any more. If you can find the time and the video it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • I can't imagine being an engine room guy under threat of torpedo. The bravest of the brave merchantmen.

  • I absolutely agree with you, but I would have to say The crewman of The K-19 are The most brave merchantmen of all time, but yeah, there were hundreds of U-Boats, so your right:)
