  • Where does this band play? I just discovered them. They are so good!

  • Just saw them last night with Blue Peter-AMAZING.

  • LOL - I think the lead singer lived in my building for awhile. I like the fact they would say they were from Newcastle, Ontario - possibly the biggest thing that ever came out of that town!!!!

  • guess 11 people are april fools

  • Great tune!!

  • great band in the 80s

    agreed

  • Yep, touring again.. I may go see them with Blue Peter.

  • OMG I don't think I've heard this song since the end of the 80's. Great tune!!!

  • they are touring again WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

  • lyrics plz anyone??

  • TOTAL goosebumps. I was born in 1970 so the '80s was my decade. I am mostly a metal guy, but I do enjoy select pop music from the era. Like this song. Great stuff. That scene at 1:15 takes me back to that time for some reason. Just the dude standing down by Lake Ontario playing his guitar (looks like Winter). Awesome.

  • EPIC CANADIAN.

  • i miss them!!!!!!!!

  • Another great Canadian Artist featured on the great CFNY 102.1FM during their HEYDAY(s) in the 80's. Love the passion and desire... although being somewhat uncomfortable in concerts never did see them live. Music should be shared throughout the world, where others can come to embrace all music as important.

    S.J. Sakamoto(Red Deer, AB Canada)

  • Still April Fool's Day for 14 more minutes!

  • This tune is a classic from the 80s ,wow old times rule.

  • now this is good canadian music. i apologize on behalf of my country for justin bieber, and his crappy music's mainstream popularity across the world.

  • sacado d su debut EP: The Great Lake d 1986

    Chris Tait - vocals, guitars

    Brad Hopkins - bass guitars

    Derrick Murphy - drums

    Tad Winklarz - keyboards, saxophone

Chris Wardman - wobbly guitar, acoustic guitar on "Superman", "Me, Myself and I"

Jason Sniderman - keyboard programming on "20th Century Boy"

Kenny MacLean - backing vocals on "20th Century Boy"

  • The 80's can never be reproduced, different mentality, different technology, they had to play it all themselves and sing without the use of AutoTune. Occasional flangered vocals here and there, but at moderation. I can't believe how bad music got since the mid 90's.

  • The lyrics are impossible to find online

  • This would be considered New Wave, yes?

  • @Vacuumscam- Ya I thought it could go under New Wave but its actually "Canadian college rock" or just "post-punk"

  • really great song: but for me, all these Canadian songs bring me back to freezing my butt-off in winter coming home from highschool - grey days. (just sharing)

  • This guy had a strong voice

  • @tothatextent Chris Tait is still one of my favorite male vocalists. He formed Big Faith after Chalk Circle disbanded and, although I have both albums, I didn't enjoy BF as much as Chalk Circle. And CC was great in convert too.

  • Saw them open for Rush, they were great live too

  • @renlessard Me too,6 row floors,great show. Fall 1986 i think great show!

  • uhhh canadian bands are STILL great dude!

  • there ar some songs that were and continue to be great this is one of them

  • This takes me back to 86 / 87... ah, to be 14 again.

  • I like the setting , mood and ambiance on the outdoor.indoor near the ocean shots

  • awesome song!!

  • "No April Fool behold today. When my kingdom falls, and yours will stay"

They have another good tune...'The Mourning' ....sounds like a young Bono

  • Damn this song is epic. Way better than Platinum Blonde. (In my opinion)

  • Gotta love a drummer who lifts his drumstick clear over his head with every beat!

  • Classically Canadian... Love it! Newcastle Ontario (now Clarington) based home town boys! ... Je me souviens!

  • Such an awesome song. Such an underrated band. Never got the recognition it deserved. Bought all their CDs, and still listen to their stuff regularly. This song is my favorite of theirs. When I first heard heard this song on the radio, I thought it was a new U2 song. Awesome guitar...very clean.

  • I just dig this song. These guys actually remind me of tears for fears a bit.

  • 0K,going for ciggie now ...... ; )-

  • Wow, brings me back when I was 22 and mullet hairstyle lol

  • I like the guitar and keyboard harmony in this song.

  • the whole ablum's great. I originally bought this when it was first released as a cassette and nearly wore it out on my clunky walkman.

  • How come Sons and Daughters isn't on YouTube yet?

  • Man, to spend most of the 80's between the great Canadian cities of Calgary and Toronto, while these great tunes were smoldering over the waves of every great FM station on the continent. Summers in the city and tunes like this created memories worth revisiting.

  • My buddys dad is the drummer its pretty sick sound

  • what a great fucking song ! one of canada's gems from the 80's..he sounds a little like a young bono from that same era !!..what a great time to be young !!in my early teens and in high school..we were all arrogant, stupid, and thought we were invincible..lol !FUCKING AWESOME !! THE GLORY DAYS OF REAL SYNTHS AND ELECTRIC PIANO AND HUGE ASS DRUM SOUNDS WITH TONS OF REVERB !! BEAUTIFUL !

  • Check out "Kiss You When It's Dangerous" from Ottawa band Eight Seconds. Another great under rated Canadian band.

  • My teenage years! Loved this band! Very Echo and the Bunnymenish but still... Part of a great time in Canadian indie rock! :)

  • I LOVE this entire album this is from. The Great Lake is a brilliant album from start to finish. Great song writing, hooks, chords, etc.

I met these guys when the played St. Mary's High School in Kitchener. Hilarious.

  • Chalk Circles music will always touch me .Just GREAT!!!!

  • this was a time when canadian bands were great. Brings back memories of highschool

  • @fjislander you bet love this stuff I am also a fellow Canadian I wish it was back them all over again what times I and we had I am sure :-)

  • @fjislander canadians still have it, breh. liek helo? justin bieber? avril lavigne?

  • Love this group....always sing along whenever i hear a song.....

  • ya these guys were fucking great

  • One of Canada's most under appreciated bands of the 80's. Their music still holds up today.

  • Saw these guys open for Rush in 88. Great band!

  • i remember when that happened i wanted to see them both

  • I'm not going to lie, I was born 3 years prior to this song's release, but I love it just the same. I heard it on a 102.1 The Edge Live-to-Air one Sunday evening a few years back and fell in love immediately.

  • Move to Montreal and do it again

  • Great Band

  • speed of sound

  • Its like Im back there .. hearing this for the first time...

  • Thanks...love this song.

  • Is the lead singer Sindey Crosby's father? There's a striking resemblance, in'it?

  • great band to bad they had to break up

  • This video looks like it was filmed at Sunnyside on Lakeshore BLVD near Palais Royalle.

  • thought i would never hear this again- thanks for posting- brings back memories.

  • mo fo! dat's my friend's dad yo

  • In case you haven't noticed by now, everybody's related to somebody. Lol!

  • Lead singer/guitarist is a total BABE!

  • They opened for CROWDED HOUSE at Canada's Wonderland! Back when Canada had powerhouse indie record labels with somewhat interesting acts.

  • @dconflict

i was there! great show - wow memories!

  • takes me back.....thank you!

  • Lot of great bands came out of Toronto, in the 80's...

  • I remember visiting Niagara Falls with my parents and listening to this band in my... walkman (I'm 37)

  • i remember dancing to this song in the acqua duck club in welland ont in the summer of 1986. great memories. kim tremblay what became of you???

  • i love how 80's music is so meaningful and full of depth on do many levels! truly artistic

  • This band was one of my favourites back then as I was in my mid 20's. They kind of remind me of U2. I think its the same type of music. These guys could have been alot bigger. The talent was there.

  • wasn't the original cut longer than 3:58?..I remember 5+ minutes..or am I mistaken?..great song..came out when I was living in Toronto..great city for great summer music memories..

  • Yes, the LP version was 5:21.

  • Despite the years, this song continues to withstand the test of time, it encapsulates that moment in time. Just close your eyes and let the song take you back in time and lived back those memories.

  • From Newcastle Ontario. Canada

  • One of the better eighties bands using REAL instruments (not reliant on computer drums and too many synths), who could hold down a good rock beat, and a good video to boot!

  • April Fool

  • What was that orange light flash at 2:38?

  • Are you talking about the reflection off of the guitar? Instruments are really polished up for videos! That's probably what you're seeing.

  • 04/01/2008

    no april fools

    love this song

  • Does anyone know of/ remember the Canadian twin sister singing duo from Toronto "TU"

..they released a couple of albums in the

80's..they had a pretty big hit song, STAY WITH ME..they also worked with PLATINUM BLONDE

  • I think what you are referring to is "Shakespeare's Sister" The singers are not twins, and not related. They are not from Canada. One was born in Ireland, and the other I am not sure. Their names are Siobhan Fahey, and Marcella Detroit. Their biggest hit was "Stay" Also Siobhan Fahey was in a popular band from the 80s "Bananarama"

  • hi there, thanks for the reply..

I have some TU videos posted on my profile.

I am totally familiar with the works of Shakespears Sister..Would be great if Marcella & Siobhan reconnected and did another cd together..I love their sound.

  • Hi there..so sorry..I do apologize. I had no idea about the twin sisters TU. I am an 80s fan but I guess this slipped somehow. Thanks for sharing the video you have:)

  • hi there

thanks for the note..sadly TU only released 2 albums, their career was pretty short lived, and it is next to impossible to find any info on them .... the 80's were great were they not? ....

  • The 80s ROCKED!!!

  • Sometimes.

  • K-Rock 103.9 FM in Corner Brook, NL plays the extended version of this song.

  • just used to abso love this when living in canada....couldn't get it here, but have now.

CFNY was the best radio station always played dead cool stuff and "all request" shows too

  • kinda thought this was done in one of those old buildings on lakeshore in t.o.

  • it was filmed at sunnyside pavillion on lakeshore..

a few canadian musical artists from the 80's filmed music videos at sunnyside pavillion.

TU-i used to cry (i posted this video on youtube).

    KIM MITCHELL-all we are

    CHALK CIRCLE-april fool

  • FM dreamgirl is up, look for it!

ANYONE remember the great hit song from 1987?

  • Good song, funny the lead singer had a Kramer type haircut, lol

  • I wanted that haircut when I was 15

  • CFNY was at its best in the 80s and early 90s before it became "The Edge".

  • Great voice. The Great White North's version of Bono!

  • I got to hang out with these guys in Sudbury one night. Really good band. They had the craziest tour manager ever named Mongo.

  • Proud to say I own "The Great Lake" EP on original vinyl. A fine band. Thanks for the video.

  • Yeah i have it on cassette. Such a great song.

  • Me too!

  • Wrong lake, Jesse. It was shot down at Lake Ontario.

  • Love these guys, man! CFNY 102.1 during the years of 89 - 91 was the best......cannot capture those pure emotions anymore....

  • good song this ban is pure canadian 80s, b4 my time but great tune, the video was shot at a look out on lake superior, its a neat video but i was expecting it would be different

  • I'm pretty sure it is the building on the old Sunnyside fairgrounds on Toronto's lake front. It been used in many videos. That would make it Lake Ontario.

But more importantly, I remember buying the album soon after its release because I thought it was an ok song and being surprised how very good the entire album was.

  • love this track

  • song definitely does not "suck" carlos. thesoundradio. com/artist/cinchband

  • great tune, took me back to the lakeshore, 102.1 CFNY, bike rides and EX concerts!

  • guy thax for the vid

  • A great song and a lame video.

  • Awesome man, thanks for posting this.

  • Such a great tune! Love the location too Sunnyside Swimming Pavilion on the Lakeshore in Toronto!

  • I love Chalk Circle, such a good band. goos tunes and a good looking front man, Chris Tait is hautt...lol

  • Love this tune. thanx for the post

  • anyone from Bowmanville??? K. britton here...duke street brings back memories man! R.I.P JOHN EDMUNDSON!!! always remembered

  • was this video done in bowmanville? kim mitchell's vid "all we are" was shot in he same place

  • GREAT SONG. Thats funny i remember when this came out almost everyone thought they had a similar sound to Simple Minds. The movie Breakfast Club came out the year prior. April Fool is one of those songs not many people know by name, until they hear it again. Thanks.

  • I love that opening lick. Someone should put a video of how to play it on guitar, i want to learn it!

  • CC's Mending Wall is one of the best CD's in my collection. I think this track was from their first CD - really rare.

  • I remember Chalk Circle from the 80's but couldn't remember the music. April Fool is an awesome song. I just started taking piano lessons about 2 months ago and guess who my piano teacher is...Tad. He's a great guy.

  • i take pride in knowing my 80's music but i have never heard this song or of this group but they are great

  • Man, this takes me back. Awesome song!

  • I love this song yet "Me, Myself and I" is far better and the video is an excellent example of how to use blinds effectively. Someone please post this band's videos! I tune in here all the time hoping to find something by the kaukasische Kreidekreis. I saw the band recently at Lee's Palace and Brad still looks buff; Chris has gained a bit; Tad too; and Derrick still looks hot with that cap and diastema however I couldn't tell under the lighting if he was totally grey or just bleach-blond.

  • Canada's attempt at U2 presents their attempt at New Year's Day.

  • Canada's attempt at U2 ? How and why do you think that ? Was that a compliment or put down ? Please explain if you can !

  • I agree with the questions that you raise, Ecossaise. I cannot see any connection to either U2 or 'New Year's Day'. Chalk Circle was a successful 'attempt' at a unique sound.

  • kiss my ass, bono is a irish fag!

  • Thats fucking fanatastic!!

I couldnt have simplified it any better.

Except that one band sucked and one still does.

  • I was starting to think this song was nonexistent.

    THANKS!

  • Thanks for uploading this. I remember hearing this on Canadian radio every 10 minutes during the spring and summer of '86. I think I only saw the video once or twice. Either on "Good Rockin' Tonight" or "Video Hits". This should've been a big hit here in the States. I bought the 45 at the Rideau Centre in Ottaw. Great, classic CanCon! :)

  • LOVE this song! Thank you!!!
