  • I think he tossed his bat because he thought it was ball four. Not out of anger... nothing in the rules about being presumptuous.

  • A bit of a quick reaction for a ejection!

  • thats a horrible ejection. he thought it was ball 4 so he tossed the bat aside and started down to first. he heard the strike call and started to go to the dugout. theres nothing there worthy of an ejection

  • @MeatLoafFan47

Your right on! Exactly what I thought! Just a scared inexperienced umpire.

  • @GJsevens ... Everyone makes mistakes. He should have talked with his partners. He is lucky. At the level I do there are just two of us. =)

And to everyone else who is knocking it, try umpiring (at any level) before you criticize. It is not that simple. Yeah I know, blah blah blah witty comeback snappy retort broomshed poopstick, but anyway. (I am just preparing for the "Well, I do it and have a better strike zone than God.")

  • I grew up with Lance. He's a class act guy! My guess he said something because Lance isn't going to put up with any crap. He can't be too good to be the youngest umpire in the bigs! Great job Lance!

  • @sawranch

Good Job though? To bad it was a horrible job and he threw me out because he has no clue what he was doing. When a player bends down to take a shin guard off and toss his bat to the side for the bat boy is because they assume it was ball four not "throwing my bat" because I didnt like the call of strike three. Also I was asked by the head umpire if he could use that clip in their umpiring school of what NOT to do. Can't just make a call of tossing a player on an assumption.

  • @sawranch .... There are MANY umpires in the bigs who get confrontational (Bob Davidson, Joe West ... even Scott Barry with Ryan Howard last year), or who have ego issues. I don't think anyone is averse to it, and maybe this was one of those days. He made a mistake. If it is true and it was for the bat toss as asserted (and not for anything said).......

  • Moron lance barret is in the majors now

  • @mbaldwin944

Good for him but Yah that is Sad he is in the Bigs, and he is still horrible and not liked by to many players there either.

  • The one coach must think it's basketball because he boxes out the ejected player

  • JHagen88, then your umpire you know is an idiot. Jacobs thinks it is ball 4. In case your ump hasn't ever played you leave the bat and take first. Bad call. He can hang out in AA for a while. Another ump thinking people go to the game to watch him.

  • Point!

  • Comment removed

  • someone should kick that umpire's ass in the parking lot

  • All I know is that I happen to know this umpire and he is a good umpire. Therefore no matter how quick you think he was on the ejection I guarantee you it was warranted. Also that is a good pitch and maybe he should have swung the bat instead of watching it in a 1 run game.

  • Yea, I know him too. He taught at Jim Evan's last December. I really didn't get that good of a vibe from him. He is kinda arrogant.

  • If you pause at the right spot 0:23, you can clearly see the pitch is a strike.

  • doesnt look like a strike to me

    pause at 0:23

  • Its a strike

  • Si es Strike, una esquinita, como ni le tiro, puesle salio lo niña y a llorar.

  • Ridiculous ejection.

  • was a strike- of course I'm sure ALL of you umpire (best umpires are always in the stands anyway) there's no way to hear what he said- may have been a bad ejection, but that was NOT a bad call- I'm a high school umpire and never claimed to be the best in the world, but I'm better than the dumbass fans who think they know it all.

  • even if it was, do u eject a major leaguer, for saying a cuss word? (it clearly looks like he said one word)

  • so ture g5 so true they still think foul tip is a dead ball. they don;t know the two difference between foul-tip and foul ball

  • @g5pigott The umpires in my high school league almost always got the call right. If they didn't, I had cameras set up throughout the field to prove them wrong, especially when I was on the college field.

  • Terrible ump. He tossed the bat because it was BALL 4 moron. He is going towards first base not the dugout. Umpires like this should be banned from baseball.

  • Umpires have relationships with players and if you show up an umpire in previous occasions, they will throw you out for the littlest things, payback is the best revenge, get it right people !!! Jacobs is known to be a complete eyesore in the minds of Umpires !!!!!!!!!

  • Go minimets!

  • this is like the manny ramirez one.. i guess throwing an object is the problem

  • You ought to save ejections for more serious behavior, not minor stuff like this.

  • was a ball and a lame ejection.

  • Moronic ejection.

  • if you have seen alot of games when it is a full count and the batter would flip his bat thinking he got the walk and this is the same case..

  • I know the umpire personally. He tossed him for throwing the bat.

  • He was too quick on the trigger... he was tossing th ebat thinking it was going to be a ball. He had already turned to walk before the umpire made a call or signal.

  • how do you he didn't swear at the umpire or say something that would warrant an ejection? You cannot see the umpire make the signal so you cannot be exactly sure of when he was ejected. So without knowing the full story how can you say that, "he was too quick on the trigger"?

  • Watch his mouth. It is not that hard to read lips. You know when he was ejected based on the batter's reaction. And fact, if he is facing away from the umpire, or walking away, the umpire needs to let it go. I can say that being an umpire myself. I will bet my bottom $ that the umpire thought he was showing him up. Bottom line - make the player or coach eject themselves by making it obvious, there is no need to go looking for it.

  • @jhagen88 JHagen88, then your umpire you know is an idiot. Jacobs thinks it is ball 4. In case your ump hasn't ever played you leave the bat and take first. Bad call. He can hang out in AA for a while. Another ump thinking people go to the game to watch him.

  • @grantmclark5 This guy is in the show now genius.

  • @jhagen88 then would you mind punching him in the face and telling him he's an embarassment to baseball? Thanks so much

  • @jhagen88 why wouldn't you throw the bat if you thought it was a walk? Seriously... Your opinion is biased and the umpire made a bad call. If you think that call was fair, you must be blind and ignorant as fuck.

  • @jhagen88 ... We all make mistakes, and this guy is obviously a better umpire than I will ever be (I have only been doing it a couple of years, and soccer more than that).

That being said, he could have asked for help or to avoid any problems let it go and not eject him. There was no throwing of the bat. He tossed it toward the dugout when he thought it was ball four. Doing this is just not good for the player because he is getting tossed for an umpire's subjective misinterpretation.

  • @jhagen88 me too

  • Classic Greg Jacobs. But really, you gotta love him, it was a close call but to eject him that early come one. Let it go and move on, umpire. Knowing Jacobs, he probably did say something to deserve it but still, the man is an incredible baseball player, you have to love his attitude sometimes. KC T-Bones baby!!! Oh and he dominated AAA in the Dodgers organization with Las Vegas but they screwed him over.

  • GO R-PHILS!!!!!! & GO BAYSOX!!!!!

  • Great Call, Jacobs needed to go in the Locker Room and watch it himself !!!

  • he had to say something either there or before to show up the ump. No way just tossing the bat gets you ejected.

  • Fact: 100% of ejections are deserved, and too many that deserve to be ejected are not.

  • This is so true

  • I disagree. I am an umpire and have definitely ejected my fair share. I believe that I have ejected people that should not have been (in fact I know I have), and I've not ejected ppl that should have been. I think in this one the ump THOUGHT he was showing him up (which I don't believe he was) and of course can't "go back" on an ejection. Situation: The batter threw the bat thinking he was heading to first when the ump called strike three (seen it in pros) and got tossed.

  • it was a good call strike, btw, an umpire is never wrong, so if he threw him out, he was right in doing so

  • Umpires have ego problems, usually its a power trip like a lot of cops have. It is the only time in their life they have control over someone or something. So they abuse it....real odd! Their is a handfull of umpires that are good out of thousands.

  • true true, not all, but some

  • Really or is the fans who can accpet that the batter acutally said something? you can see him mumbling something.

  • Pitch...IDK...No ejection should have happened though.

  • the only thing i have to say is that the player ejected himself and if anyone that sees this video was at the 2008 jim evans 5 week course i have one thing to say "HEY LANCE I WANT MY RUN"

  • barfmaster 1987 is right! The guy dumped himself. I'm not a lip reader, but it is pretty obvious the player needed to go. Hey, I don't make this shit up!

  • the bottom line is if the guy didn't say anything, there is no reason to throw him out. If the people on here who comment, watched baseball, they would see players toss their bat towards the dugout. It clearly looked like a ball. I thought these sportscasers did a good job. a lot better than most on here.

  • There no prove that he didnt say anything. you cant augre stirke calls period.

  • How about I didnt say anything I tossed my bat aside for thinking it was ball 4 and on my way to 1st base. The jackass tossed me out becasue he thought I threw my bat becasue I was pissed off that it was strike three so all you have no clue or were smart enough to think of that one! you guys are all soooooo smart!! As you can see it was ball 4!

  • "that endned the inning" ok there is only 1 out here. I dont think they were talking about this play.

I think the guy was pist before. and said something last time. again you dont need to ask for help.

  • The commentators are idiots. That was not a check swing but a called strike. You can't ask for help on a called strike.

  • they were talking about earlier in the game dumbass

  • At least from where I am

  • good call blue

  • I second that!

  • I think the sportscasters in this video are the real stars: toward the end of the video, one sportscaster mentions the "arrogance" of the umpires for not getting help on an inning-ending check-swing (presumably happening earlier in this game). I realize these are just small time sportscasters who won't know everything, but perhaps these guys should learn some basic baseball rules before throwing people under the bus on a televised baseball game.

  • Get em Lance.......

Typical RAT. Talk crap to the umpire and then act suprised because you ejected yourself.

See you next weekend. Looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the guys.
