  • I'm an Australian and I pronounce all of these the same with an E: sound, as do the people I've been around with. I've always did, dunno why.

Merry, merry and merry, for me. LOL!

  • @OakPark11MileRd

You must not be a real Michigander then... Everyone I know from around here merges all three of those to sound like how she says "Mary" in the video.

  • In the southeastern U.S. all three words are historically pronounced differently as well. Thanks for uploading this:)

  • i have a lot of trouble distinguishing these 3 words i was not aware until recently they could be said differently lol

  • They r soo different though!

  • Interesting. I pronounce all three of those words the same and they sound quite similar to the way you say "Mary".

  • I'll see what I can do about a new video. But for now I'll try to explain what differences to listen for:

Merry: listen for the 'eh' sound. It sounds like 'meh-ree'.

Marry: has a hard 'a' sound. Like in apple.

Mary: listen for the 'air' sound.

  • Could you do this demonstration again, empasizing the differences more so? They still sound the same to me.

  • Nope. All pronounced like "Merry" to me.
