I was needing a little help I had a jdm gsr lsd tranny and my diff went out and i swapped it all out for a quife and took the bearings off the old diff and put them on the new one put it all back together but there is a lot of side to side play in there like its needing shim.
Now I got all the way to putting the case back on and I figured the snap ring had to click in before bolting everything down but it simply would not, even after tightening a few bolts. I see man handling the trans at the end is the real way lol.
My case apart and everything was removed exactly like this and cleaned etc, i replaced the bearing (isb) now my problem is upon taking the shafts out, the top portion of the mainshaft came apart i guess it was loose, what im wondering is theres a gap between the bearing and the shim that sits at 12:00, so it can easily come off or out of its place and move so it doesnt sit 12:00 anymore, is this normal? or does the bearing need to be pushed down onto it more so it cant come up out of its seat?
Damm evan I seen part 1 part. 2 part. 3 and. Camshaft instalation and the only thing I can say is u know 2 much how? And do u like american cars I kno thatthey r way harder 2mess. Around with but u know a lot I'm sureu won't. Have any problems
i just got a trans from someone recently...i havent opened it yet, but the seller has...i shifted through the gears and it seems fine...however, i try turning the input shaft, and i can't do it...like its locked...am i just not twisting hard enough? or what could be a problem?
nevermind...that washer/shim under the bearing on the input shaft wasnt lined up 12 oclock like you said...it was like 3 oclock...so i put it to twelve, put the case back on, and it spins so nicely...
so for future reference to anyone...if that washer or shim is not lined up at 12 oclock, and you somehow manage to jam the casing on there, your input shaft will NOT spin...it will be locked up
jeff if thats your name. i greatly appreciate what you have done. Your differential vids have given me the courage to open my tranny and check the input shaft bearing. You are amazing, keep it up
dont know if im saying it right but here i go...do you have a video or know one where it shows how to put together the shafts? main camel shaft? <----
evans ur da man ur partner arnold from ny is 1 of my friends and i plan 2 take a car here from ny 2 you 2 tune ill make appoint for da end of da yr by da way can we get a gear swap and synchro r&r? video thanx bro
I need to replace syncros and gears on my y1 tranny. I wanted to put a 5th gear from an ls tranny into a y1 tranny, and I wanted to change out all the syncros, if you can make a video of that, I will donate through paypal!!! Once again, thanks for the greatest instructional videos on youtube, this makes me love and want to tune a honda even more.
One important thing to add. When aligning the tab on the shim that was pointed out, make absolutely sure that its aligned, if it is not and you are some how able to put the case back together it will not allow the gears to spin effectively locking up your tranny.
Happend to me. Thankfully I caught that before installation.
99% of the time you dont need to re shim the diff with the taper roller style bearings. I checked the side to side play and it was within honda spec. I think in 30 gsr transmissions only one needed to be reshimmed with a diff installation, and it was due to using a different top half case.
