A car sharing program sounds like it could be a disaster. How would the state account for the almost inevitable cost of missing/stolen cars? Or cleaning the puke from any car with the misfortune to have a completely wasted partygoer as one of its passengers?
Also, this video in general strikes me as too optimistic and overall Quixotic. If programs like the ones featured here are to win support from conservatives they must address various concerns and work around numerous NIMBY campaigns.
hes not going to a white sox game...hes going to a tigers game...same thing but tigers are awesome......detroit all the way....hope to get some taller buildings then ur 727 ft tallest building
Of course it might not happen, but none of what is described is unfeasible. Carsharing already exists; if you can open your car with the push of a button from some distance away, the same could be done with any car given a means to inform it to open in the presence of a certain device. The train would only need to sustain an average of 140 mph to travel in 2 hours as well
There's not too much talk and no test system; all the components exist now, they're just not connected or installed
Why does it take a recession to get our country motivated about the future? It would have been a lot wiser to have invested in such ambitious goals when we had the money to fund them!
The 'city' of Detroit may have been losing population since it peaked in the 1950s, but the metropolitan area has been constant 4.25-4.50 million since the 1970s ... hardly a trend to suggest abandonment in 40 years. Plus, one trend that one might see with consistently higher fuel prices would be a migration from the suburbs (especially the outermost ones), back closer to the city or to near mass transit locations.
I just went toTokyo where they have many of these systems. This country was completely destroyed in 1945and 19 years later had the first bullet train. Now they have an excellent multi-level transportation system. Yes we can get this done before 2050 if our country commits to this goal.
This can happen well before 2050, would also like to see some sort of bus service to get to the train station to cut down the number of cars on the road.

Well aren't you a great fountain of optimism.
Perhaps if you have critiques, you might elaborate on them and not just "UH no" with multiple exclamation marks.

The ability to locate, reserve and unlock a car sharing vehicle with a smart phone is already a reality.
